Warrior Nun (2020)
This is what tv shows should be!!
I'm not going to say Warrior Nun is the perfect standard, because it isn't. It's a damn good show, but its best quality is its ability to improve. When shows are renewed and given a chance to thrive and improve upon their first seasons, they don't always manage it - but Warrior Nun does. Season 1 was pretty good, and Season 2 was really good. There's such a care to the series, where you can see that the people working on it really truly, genuinely want to tell the best story that they can.
It has a great storyline, great cast and diversity, canon queer representation that is handled with so much care and love. There's killer fight sequences too, and just everything about it is so beautiful.
So, if Warrior Nun seems to be up your alley genre-wise, and you're still skeptical - don't be. It's worth it. And if it isn't up your alley genre-wise, then maybe give it a shot anyways? Who knows, you might be surprised.
Fall (2022)
Surprisingly Satisfying
Simple, Sweet, Satisfying.
That's really all there is to say. Fall (2022) doesn't do anything exceptionally different than expected from a movie of this genre, and yet I was really captivated the entire watch. I found it very well acted, with both of the leads performing phenomenally, and I found the cinematography surprisingly good as well.
I definitely fell for these girls, and how we see their friendship play out.
Junior Majeur (2017)
Good sequel for Joey, Bad sequel for Janeau
As a huge fan of the first film, I was excited to learn a sequel had been made and almost immediately jumped in. While the acting is still as stellar the second time around, the story is lost in its attempt to recreate the rivalry of Janeau and Joey from the first film.
It's still a decent watch, but I wouldn't go into it excepting too much.
Don't Look Deeper (2020)
Definitely worth a watch
I'm not the biggest fan of Quibi, especially when it tries to take itself too seriously and break down shows that could easily have been full length 40 minute episodes. Still, Don't Look Deeper was pretty amazing. I binged it in a day, and would definitely recommend it.
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
I was disappointed
I was absolutely disappointed by this sequel, and I while I was initially excited for this movie, I now wish they hadn't made it at all. Going into it, I was hoping to get to see characters I loved in the first film return, Spencer, Fridge, Martha and Bethany. I was hoping to see character growth, as expected from a sequel. My excitement quickly dwindled when I realized the movie prioritized the actors over their actual characters. Make no mistake, this movie, is about Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, as they play completely different characters from the ones we were introduced. These new characters, Eddie and Milo, add in my opinion absolutely nothing to the story. They simply get in the way of the character growth you'd expect to see in a sequel. Nick Jonas' Alex unnecessarily returns in this sequel, and while I loved him in the first, his character was completely useless to the sequel. Spencer is MIA for the majority of the film, until he becomes Bravestone again and is now the main focus of the movie again.
Admittedly, it's dumb fun. There are amusing jokes, I enjoyed the new environments and location. If you're going into it for the characters, for Spencer, Martha, Fridge or Bethany, don't bother. They're not really in it that much.
If anything, Jumanji: Next Level should've been a one-shot spinoff movie, and definitely not apart of the trilogy narrative it's trying to go for.
