Margin Call (2011)
A movie saved by the actors.
A direction that has an idea but does not know how to put it into practice.
A very cumbersome, technical and difficult film without simply explaining the various financial technicalities to the viewer.
A film poor in pathos, emotion, action, adrenaline and poor in a real plot.
I vote 5 only for the beautiful interpretation of the actors who try to save what can be saved.
The Leisure Seeker (2017)
A bizarre couple, a camper and Hemingway
A simple but powerful movie!
The disease told by a nice elderly couple, who decide to live alone the last days of their existence together with their camper.
The same camper that acts as a common thread between vicissitudes and dramatic moments, and a bit as a container of past and present moments of life, which will accompany them in this last race.
All surrounded and accompanied by the Hemingwayan influence.
Airport (1970)
GOOD DISASTER MOVIE
First aerial disaster movie in the history of cinema with a stellar Hollywood cast.
Funny and at the same time full of suspense that keeps the viewer glued to the chairs to know the unfolding of the plot.
Good proof of the whole cast, excellent editing and special effects of the time.
Power of Rome (2022)
The power of illusion
In this docu-film, Edoardo Leo takes us by the hand and accompanies us on this virtual journey through the streets of Rome, retracing alleys, monuments, characters and historical periods that have characterized it.
Excellent interpretation of Leo in a work but not very courageous. The director does not dare, does not risk much and creates this virtual journey with little news and missing some important places and periods.
However, a nice walk in what is defined in the film: Rome which is many worlds, Rome which is the whole world! "
How said Fellini: "Rome is the city of illusions, it is no coincidence that here there is the church, the government and the cinema, all things that produce illusion!"
Dietro la notte (2021)
Very bad
Really bad work as well as the acting of the whole cast.
Film without a real idea, banal, lacking in suspense and mediocre from every point of view.
Not recommended!
Old (2021)
The Importance of time
Is it worth sacrificing a few lives to save thousands?
What would you do, how would you spend your time knowing that you only have a few hours left to live?
Yes, OLD is all of this, it's a film that focuses on the main character: Time.
It makes you reflect on many aspects of your life:
-Reflect on the value of time;
-about what you are doing with your time;
-what are the really important things you want to dedicate yourself to.
Time flows differently and makes you think: "ok, but how would I use this time?
If I had so many hours to do everything I have left to do, what would I do? "
All these questions are a continuous game with the viewer that lasts throughout the film!
The others points in which the movie concentrates:
-the tema of racism is present in the scene in which the white people are saying to the black people: "why aren't they agening? And the black guy said "this is the only time in which they prefer yo be black!" (this refers to the fact that the agening signs don't appear on black actors);
-the other tema is focused on death and on differents fases of grief: negation, anger and compromise, in which every single characters is submitted.
Surely I can't say that M. Night Shyamalan has come back to be the best director of "The sixth sense", but it is certainly a brave work. He took some parts of the grapich novel "Castels of sand", in which the director takes inspiration and also some of his caracteristics.
The soundtrack of movie is also very good. It installs a sense of anxiety, anguish and terror into the viewer.
The performances of the cast is normal, some perform badly and some good, but overall nothing exciting.
So overall a good movie but something doesn't quite add up (maybe the final? Maybe some performances of the characters? Maybe some choices of director?), anyway it's enough to say that I start seeing again the Shyamalan of the good times.
Novecento (1976)
A MASTERPIECE THAT TALKS ABOUT THE ESSENCE OF THE ITALIAN TWENTIETH CENTURY!
Milestone of Italian cinema that can boast a stellar cast with an epic Burt Lancaster in the interpretation of the forefather of the rich Berlinghieri family of landowners, a Donald Sutherland in the role of the fascist militant Attila Melanchini (and already from the name you can see the personality characteristics) in which it reaches absolute perfection giving life to a figure
"Demonic" portraying what was fascist fanaticism and cruelty, Romolo Valli masterful in the role of Giovanni Berlingheri father of Alfredo (a young De Niro); and the laborer Olmo Dalcò interpreted by an equally young Depardieu.
The film begins with the opening of the new century (1900) and with the announcement of the composer's death Giuseppe Verdi (January 27, 1901), as if this meant the end of a century, of a piece of history Italian that goes away and the beginning of a new one (where there is death there will always be a new life). The birth of two children of different and opposing social classes, the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, masters and peasants, who they will give the La film and that will in a certain sense be the guiding thread of a story, of a generation that it will retrace all the main stages of the first half of the new century, from the proletarian revolution to the affirmation of Mussolini's fascism with the two World Conflicts in between and concluding with the
postwar period and the constitution of the Republic, which will characterize and symbolize "THE ESSENCE OF ITALIAN NOVECENTO "!
Three generations engaged in the class struggle that raged in those years in the background of the Bassa Emilia with a common thread carried forward by the parallel lives of two boys-men who despite the different social rank manage to maintain a fraternal friendship from start to finish.
Film that follows a certain order thanks also to the cycles of nature that act as a metaphor for the events that occur follow each other: from the summer of childhood and adolescence, to the autumn of maturity to finish with winter
associated with death (who knows whose 😉) and spring is a metaphor for rebirth and change (coinciding with the day of the Liberation). A work that manages to tell the most significant years of our country, rich in details, attentive to details (although not always! It is a shame to fly over the years of the two world wars almost to not wanting to deal with issues already seen and reviewed or too difficult to fit into a work that is already complex in itself)
strongly symbolic; strong the scene of the cut of the ear of a laborer in front of the master for mark the total wear and tear that bourgeois society exerted on the proletarians or the choice to assign to the son of laborer the name "Elm", symbolizing the strength of the tree that once implanted in the earth it no longer detaches itself from it, or even with the phrase "The master is dead!" symbolizing the end of capitalism.
A scenography and a photograph scrupulously cared for in the beauty of the Romagna countryside, one simple and at times pungent script that faithfully gives voice to the different characters taking into account
social cultures and different ranks and a soundtrack edited by the maestro Ennio Morricone who embraces the entire work and completes it in its entirety, keeping faith with the theme and the places covered (if you close the
eyes, from the very first stanzas you can savor the natural and pure landscape of the countryside and the echo of the peasant society, true protagonist and owner of a rural landscape). Also great mounting that manages to give a certain fluidity to a 5-hour film (divided into two acts) to be seen in one breath.
A masterful work and masterpiece, which renounces being an "ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE" of its kind for small flaws that in any case cannot fail to consecrate Bernardo Bertolucci as an absolute master of Italian and international cinema!
