Cowgirls vs. Pterodactyls (2021)
Great great movie
I think some people are missing the point here. It's *not* a Hollywood film. It's made by essentially a guy in his back yard. (Ok, maybe a little bit more accomplished than that.) But yet he got it published/made . This is so bad it's good. It's hilarious, it's funny, and it's jolly good fun too. There seems to be a DVD and a Blu-ray too.
And yes, I've seen it more than once. 👍👍👍
I need to look up the director. I'd be curious what else he's done. Ok, he's made 20 plus movies, so he's been at least somewhat successful doing what he's doing. And the stop-motion action is pretty cool. Two thumbs up, as it were. 😁
Signs of a Psychopath (2020)
I *love* this show!
Most Murder Shows (what I call true crime shows) are superficially shallow in terms of the people involved, victims and perpetrators. This show gets a little deeper into the mind, psychology, behaviors, and motivations of psychopaths. I feel that after watching most if not all of the episodes, I could spot a psychopath a mile away. And yes, I've come across a few. Ask me about the 8 year old psychopathic kid I came across, who almost caused my son to quit hockey. I felt bad for the parents, who actually seemed like pretty good people. They just had a kid who was evil to his core. Fun fact about psychopaths: they make good CEOs. No empathy, they just care about the company making money for the shareholders. No empathy, let's layoff another few hundred or few thousand employees ...
Devotion (2022)
Slow in spots, had more potential
I personally think it would have been a much better movie without the scene early on where Jesse berates himself in front of the mirror. I thought that scene was totally unnecessary to the movie. The war action scenes were great, wish there had been more. The movie could have been a great war movie, I just felt that the focus on the racism that he had to overcome to get to where he got to, was a little heavy handed at times. Yes, I get it. He's a black man in 1950s America, as a pilot in the Navy. But just like typical Hollywood, they have to tell us that over and over again, ad nauseam. Again, it's a good movie, I just think it could have been better without just that one scene. 👍
Tales of the Walking Dead: Davon (2022)
Great episode!
I'm not sure the people giving this a bad review 100% understand what's going on. Arnaud, Amanda's son, is a pedophile/psychopath. His mom Amanda knows, and is protecting him. The entire episode is about Davon finding that out, and regaining his memory of that after Arnaud attacks him, after he accidentally causes Amanda to fall into the acid bath. Once I figured out the nonlinear chronological telling of the story, I was extremely excited, because I truly never expected a story with a plot like this in the Walking Dead universe. Bravo! Bravo for the writer who wrote it, the director, and the actors who brought it home. I personally think all the Tales episodes have been great, and that this one is the best so far. (I still have to watch the final episode. 🙂 )
The Man Who Fell to Earth (2022)
I like it, but ...
It was a little uneven at first, but I'm still watching through episode 4, and I'll keep watching it. But since I've noticed this one thing, it really detracts from the show overall. Naomi Harris overacts almost every scene she's in. Yuck. But maybe I'm being too hard on her, I mean this show has Chiwetel Ejiofor, Bill Nighy, Jimmi Simpson, Kate Mulgrew, and Martha Plimpton, wow. These are all titans in acting as far as I'm concerned. It's a good show with a good story, just wish Naomi Harris would mellow out her performance a little.
Tenet (2020)
Fantastic movie
I will say only this: if you *understand* it, you will love it. It tickles the intellect in a way few movies will. If you didn't, you probably won't. I did have a head start though. I read a Culture novel by Iain M Banks many years ago that had a similar plot device. And that book was awesome too. :-D.
Relentless (2021)
Could have been better
I watch a lot of shows like this. I think there is just way too much wasted time talking about: a) nothing, or, b) the same thing over and over again. Better editing to about 3 hrs total instead of 6 would have improved this series immensely.
Bitchin': The Sound and Fury of Rick James (2021)
They cover the good and the bad
Some people are slamming this documentary because it whitewashes the story of his life? Did you watch it? This documentary is extremely honest about his drug addiction, and how badly he treated women at times. Including the two incidents of him kidnapping and torturing the two women in the '90s. Rick has a complicated past. The music is the music, and you can tell from the interview footage with him, that he's an extremely intelligent and articulate guy. But he also has a dark side, that this documentary does not shy away from talking about.
Wipeout (2021)
Awful
The original was funny, witty, interesting to watch, and you cared which contestants won or not. This is stupid, and the hosts aren't nearly as funny as they think they are.
Abandoned (2016)
Wow
This is a great show. I really like Rick's laid back but informative style in getting the info across. I'm watching it rerun on the Vice channel. I'm truly sad we only got a half dozen episodes or so. But I think it's important for people to know these places, events, disasters, etc, so we don't repeat them. I was struck by the one guy on the Salton Sea episode talking about all the tech advances we can develop, and politicians just let an ecological disaster like this Sea keep getting worse.
The Moodys (2019)
Maybe only if you're a Dennis Leary fan?
I like this, and I've liked almost everything that Dennis has done, so maybe that's no surprise. But, it is a kind of dry humor. A little sarcastic at times. But it is funny, and heartwarming too. And some of the characters do stupid things, but that's real life. I have never seen the original, so I am just checking this out as a Dennis Leary fan. And I'm getting exactly what I expected. I liked how they threw in the hockey rink stuff with his son Sean, and the broomball, knowing that Dennis is a hockey fan. ;-)
Street Outlaws (2013)
What about the cars?
It's a show about *racing*, yet there's way too much senseless talking about nothing. I want more details about each car. Horsepower, nitrous, turbocharged, supercharged, stroker engine, displacement, etc, etc, etc. They don't even give numbers for each race: trap time & speed. Dumb show. Maybe I'm too spoiled with Iron Resurrection, Fast n Loud, Counting, Cars, and the best of them all: Roadkill, where they actually talk about the cars themselves.
Stumptown (2019)
Seems a little formulaic, actually, but ...
Really though, my problem with the show is the very 1st episode. Somebody wrote the script who is *not* knowledgeable about cars. The show features a 1992 Ford Mustang GT. First off, where's the 5.0 badges that are supposed to be on the front fenders? Maybe it's not really a true GT? Maybe it's just the 2.3 L 4 cylinder done up with GT body parts? Shameful, if so. #2, at one point during the show, the Mustang goes flying through the air. They show the view from inside the car, and boy, sure looks like it's headed to the ground, nose 1st. Bam, in the next shot, the car is driving normally. Nope, no way the car survives unscathed with a jump like that. Suspension of disbelief? Don't think so. #3, and this is the worst one, because this mistake was made not once, but twice. A 1992 Mustang GT is a *hatchback*! There is no trunk! Yet twice during the episode, people are stuffed into the "trunk", who seemingly couldn't get out. Hogwash. There is no trunk. There is a flexible cover that comes on a roll, in tube, that you pulled out just to cover that area from prying eyes. Most owners didn't use it, because it was such a hassle. In reality, if you actually were stuck back there, under that cover, you can just push it off and up pretty easily with just one hand. Stupid. Why not just pick another car?!?!
Savage Builds (2019)
A nice progression from Mythbusters
I just had to comment on the latest episode, where he made the sword out of a meteorite. When he explained about the carbon atoms and the iron atoms, and that you have to heat the sword up to get them to mix, and then quickly quench it to lock that structure in for strength, I just about lost it. I have a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, and he made something quite complicated very easy for anyone to understand. This is core materials science, and it was AWESOME. :-)
Mars (2016)
I'm trying to figure out ...
Exactly when this show became more about GLOBAL WARMING ON EARTH, and less about what's going on on Mars, on the show? Please keep the left wing hippie liberal eco weanie politics out of this show, or you'll lose another viewer. When will the common populace realize, that the U. S. cannot tackle global warming alone, and getting consensus between the top polluters on the planet to actually do something about it, will never happen?!?!
JFK: The Lost Tapes (2013)
Disappointing
Up to 80% of Americans believe that Oswald did not act alone, yet this show didn't cover the existence of any alternative theories besides the "official" version.
A good read is Destiny Betrayed by James DiEugenio.
I'm not even saying that it was a conspiracy, but with the vast majority of people believing that there was one, ignoring that in this show is unacceptable.
Airplane Repo (2010)
Great show!
I guess I don't understand all the poor reviews. I have a buddy who's a pilot, not me though. But watching this show, makes me want to learn, and steal airplanes back for the legitimate owners. Maybe some of the stuff is staged, don't care. It could be just as real the next time they try and repo a plane. The one episode I just watched, they got stopped by the FBI trying to take off with a repo'ed plane. They got back in the plane, taxiing down the runway *again*, and the local cops show up and try and bust them. I just chuckle when they whip out all the official paperwork to get the plane back. And I love the little schemes they come up with sometimes, either as a distraction to get the plane back, or faking a charter flight, etc. Great show!
