Sweet on You (2023)
Was this intended to be a Christmas movie?
For some reason, I thought this was going to be a Christmas movie. Maybe because Hayley Duff was in it? She makes a lot of Christmas movies which are cute. I was in about 3/4 of the way when I realized that I saw no Christmas decor or mention of the holidays at all! Oh well. I guess just a romantic comedy. What's funny is in the ending credits. They list the songs and there are a bunch of Christmas songs. Very confusing! It's as if they intended for it to be a Christmas movie and then changed their minds. Very odd! I always like Hayley Duff in a movie, but I would pass on watching this one again. There were some cute moments and she generally had chemistry with her romantic lead. I think the best part of the movie is all the fantastic pies they eat! I'm headed to the bakery now!
The Perfect Couple (2024)
Toner for Benji's hair, stat!
I read all the other reviews, and they are mostly spot on. This limited series won't likely receive any Emmy nominations, but it's a fun "whodunnit". Beautiful, rich family. Stunning scenery. Overacting? Yes. Dull acting? At times. Expect something that you would find on the Hallmark Channel. Dakota Fanning giving "Jane" from Twilight vibes worked. Nicole Kidman doing the ice queen thing worked. Could they have toned Benji's hair color? It literally distracted me at times! Ha! I actually found myself watching the opening credits to see their wedding group dance scene. Might've been one of the better things about this series? I could possibly see them making this into a regular series if they do some work on the screenplay and character development. Give it a try!
The Young Victoria (2009)
Just when the film gets going, it ends abruptly..
I know that the premise of the film is "young Victoria", but it seemed to end too soon into her reign. They could have lengthened the film a bit to show her years married to Prince Albert - he died when she was only 40 and they had had 9 children! She was still young! There was a lot that happened during their marriage. That being said, the costumes, scenery, and acting are very good. Emily Blunt is always enjoyable to watch.
If you want to watch a more in-depth series of Queen Victoria, I highly recommend the iTV series "Victoria" with Jenna Coleman. She aces the role. You can find it on PBS / Masterpiece / Prime.
America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (2024)
Fascinating look at the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders
Fascinating look at the "DCC", as they call themselves! Tradition, history, passion, values, sisterhood are the focus. But, the real standout is the absolute athleticism and skill that these young ladies have, along with intelligence, poise, and beauty. They 100% sign up to be scrutinized, evaluated, judged, and ultimately given an opportunity to showcase their talents and join what seems to be a sorority of many generations of GCC. The backstories of some GCC are featured, along with the directors of the organization. I like the "real" scenes - hair up in curlers, no makeup, no filters. These young women, like the rest of us, have insecurities, fears, love and loss. They attend church and pray. Ultimately, whether you're a cheerleading or football fan or not, you will find yourself rooting for them! Here's to a Season 2!
