Omnivore (2024)
So Hollywood
Some of the videography is stunning. Unfortunately that's the pro. The cons are legion. Virtually nothing presented was new or novel. It felt like the entire series was a promotional series for a food company or a restaurant or some new brand of frozen foods for Whole Foods. I say 'So Hollywood' because there is so much fluff and so little content. I'll admit that I didn't watch every episode. But I tried. I really tried. I got so bored so quickly that I found myself hitting the fast forward and saying, yeah, yeah, yeah, tell me something I didn't already know. Where's Graham Kerr when we need him?
Elsbeth (2024)
Not Credible, NOT Entertaining
She was a breath of fresh air in The Good Wife and I had high hopes for something special. This was a complete flop. Lousy script, trite dialog, washed out acting. Not worth watching. Some of the actors are seasoned professionals playing roles, like the Sargent, at which they excel, but none of them stretched to fulfill their roles, which is all they did. And using New York city as a background can't save any writing, directing or acting from the shallowness of the finished product. So, this started as an interesting idea for a spinoff, but doesn't feel like more than a contrived and slap dash way to fill airtime and give people jobs.
Pretend It's a City (2021)
Oh Fran; Oh Marty
Quick, what is Martin Scorsese not? Answer: a talk show host! He's had his directorial successes, but he's quickly just annoying as a questioner. And his hysterical laughter at every single thing Fran says really ruined it for me.
And what's Fran? A brilliant writer. What isn't she? A stand up comedian. Her constant ahems, uhs, ahs and other assorted inabilities to speak a coherent sentence, left me hungry for a professional editor to clean up after her.
Also, one can only take so much self aggrandizement and pitiful braggadocio swagger before you want to toss your groceries.
Really, it's just not that interesting. I gave up after two and a half episodes.
Good luck!
De twaalf (2019)
Simply Wretched
Lousy acting, a shoddy screenplay, inexplicable subplots, this waste of time and money has it all. I used to have great expectations for Netflix, but most of their recent releases have been pure garbage.
Marcella (2016)
What a Mess
I know, I know, you shouldn't write a review until you've seen the whole season. But, after 4 episodes, it's just a mess. Marcella is like a mental patient. The McGuires are a Belfast crime family but apart from killing a bunch of people you don't really see any crime.
The Valhalla Murders (2019)
Trite and Repetitive
I wonder why screenwriters think that taking overworked themes from dozens of better shows will be enough to 'create' a new series? Other reviewers have pointed this out. Police always wait until after dark to 1) leave their phone in the car, 2) fail to call for backup, 3) enter a decrepit building without a working flashlight, 4) to pursue a suspected murderer. The primary cops are always divorced, drug abusing, maladjusted wannabes. Sad, really, that this is the best they can think up. A severe lack of imagination and talent.
Little Italy, Los Angeles (2018)
Complete Garbage
From the title I thought this was going to be a stroll around an interesting section of Los Angeles. Nope. It appears that the cast off deadwood of the LA wannabes dreamed up a way to temporarily employ the least talented writers and actors from the sludge. I'd rather wait in line at Walmart than endure this meaningless drivel.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Snooze-A-Rama
The main thing I liked about the Second Season was that I could keep the volume set on '3', read the news on my Android, chat with friends, leave the room to prepare a sandwich, eat the sandwich, go load the dishwasher and other things ALL while never pausing the show!!!!LOL
Combine a childish script, worn out actors whom we have seen in the same rolls in so many shows that it's become laughable and some over-wrought special effects and you have what I so deplore about Hollywood these days. Sheer boredom. Mediocrity in every department.
I watched about half of the first episode before giving up. I watched the second episode on volume level 6, episode 3 on volume level 3 and half of episode 4 with the sound muted. Really, it's just wallpaper. Pure Trash.
Tom Clancy produced some decent works, but lending his name to this trash makes me think he must be broke. But how could that be? You tell me.
Back to re-watching The Wire. Now, there was a well written show.
