Star Wars: Tales of the Empire (2024)
Pretty disappointing
Was intrigued to see more of Morgan and Barris to flesh their characters out and the questions that have been raised. That really only happened for Barris and even then that was brief. Morgan's episodes were just so unnecessary, there was absolutely no additional information learnt and no real substance other than Cameos (though I guess we do see how she met Thrawn). We already knew she was a night sister, was the magistrate on Corvus and was working with the empire. We just have further questions of how did she get to Corvus and become the magistrate, when and how did she become a ship designer as it doesn't seem like the natural path of a night sister. How'd she get off dathomir and reconnect back with the sisterhood.
I call into question the length of these stories as there's just not enough time to actually dive satisfyingly deep, though then again with what little time they had it looked like they really didn't have much further story to tell anyway, why not use a character you do want to expand on.
Barris's arc was more enjoyable, we got the answer of what happened to her post order 66, once again I would have liked to know more but these are very short episodes, but it was compelling enough. Good to see her not succumb to the dark side and walk a different path.
These quick character arcs I don't feel fit lesser known characters, with tales of the Jedi it felt like episodes answering a number of questions quickly for two main characters. Nice and satisfying. Tales of the empire however was one quickly rushed origin story with no substance and one question answered for a side character.
Voice acting A+, visuals and music A+
Ahsoka (2023)
Vague, uninspiring and rampant character assassination
I love Ashoka the character, loved rebels and clone wars. Which is why this show was such a disappointment. I give it 4 stars because the nostalgia and fight scenes were fantastic to watch, especially any baylan ones. But I cannot give this a good score. Sabine and Ashoka, our two mains are unrecognisable compared to previous, they make ridiculous decisions that go against the fundamentals of their characters. Why on earth would Sabine risk having the empire return, the same empire that made her a child soldier, kill her people, destroy her family and endless lives for decades across the galaxy. Just for Ezra?! Her apparent only family?!? Let's just forget Hera, Zeb, Ahsoka and other rebels she got close to exist. They're not family, only Ezra is for reasons.
Ahsoka is also holding back her emotions? We've seen her grow up and mature, she's already had these lessons. Then through some vague words from an anakin force ghost. She's magically cured and is fine with Sabine risking the whole galaxies safety just for Ezra... if you strip apart the great nostalgia and compelling acting from Hayden, what was even his lesson?!
The force powers of Sabine are extremely contrived, somehow she can force push Ezra an impeccable distance but couldn't move a cup a few days before. She's not a super powerful force weilder, in the same show they confirmed that her ineptitude for the force is the worst Huewang has ever seen. She didn't need to be a Jedi, she was already a brilliant tech and mandalorian warrior.
Here's some examples to make this show more interesting:
Sabine and ahsoka hear murmurs of someone trying to bring thrawn back, they team up to stop it because they know the fate of the galaxy depends on it (Ezra is gone, they've accepted it, this isn't even a factor initially) they're both mature and realised characters (consistent with where we left them last), but they fail to stop it, due to the power of Morgan, Baylon and shin and the resources they had. In the process of failing to stop them they are aboard the ship that goes to the next universe where they escape the ship. They're at their lowest, they've failed but they realise if thrawn is alive then maybe Ezra is, ahsoka meditates to see if she can reach out or sense where he may be, and they end up finding him. (Ahsoka has flashbacks to the clone wars throughout the show of her past lessons to guide her) Ezra is living with a group of warrior types. He's their wizard. Thrawn has ruined their home. They've tried to attack thrawn previously but maybe they can't get past a certain laser cannon or something. Now with Ahsoka and Sabine, they form a plan for them to sabotage it, which leads the warriors a chance to start a new attack. Emphasis on the team rather dying than letting thrawn get back. And well same again they could fail with somehow Ezra still being on the ship
There, I'm not a writer and that took me 10 minutes to not assassinate the characters of these beloved shows with stupid decisions to just move a plot forward.
I'm extremely disappointed in Disney Star Wars, their whole shtick just seems to be - take a beloved character, artificially give them depression and wholly disregard all their previous experiences to move the plot along that somehow palpatine returned.
Aunty Donna's Big Ol' House of Fun (2020)
Very chuffed
Been watching these boys for a while now. Very impressed with the show. The sketches were top notch, they channelled some of their classics and mixed it with some new ones. Greatly appreciated that a lot of the jokes still contained references to Australian culture
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Phantom Apprentice (2020)
Beautifully done
It was extremely tense the whole episode, the pacing was well done and the lightsaber fight was the best we have seen in the show.
As we got the prequels after the originals, Stars Wars can be predictable. We know what will happen for the most part but this episode surprised me in many scenes. Most notably his capture.
Overall this episode well and truly deserves a 10/10
The IT Crowd: The Work Outing (2007)
Best episode of comedy tv
The show is fantastic already but this episode alone is arguably one of the funniest pieces of comedy ever. It has countless bits that are setup and just fall like domino pieces one after the other. You're consistently laughing out loud for the entirety of the episode. And the rewatch value is brilliant. The anticipation of the bits now makes them even funnier
