The Boys: We'll Keep the Red Flag Flying Here (2024)
An 8.5 episode. Strongest episode of this season yet.
Quite frankly, the strongest episode of this season. Could have been more crisp with the writing. The whole thing with Butcher is a bit more concerning as it is badly written. The Boys aren't doing any better from last season. I wish the plot develops more. It's quite hard to keep watching this season as it's just doing nothing to satisfy the initial seasons. The frenchie plot seems to be abruptly cut - the butcher plot is good, convincing - I wish soldier boy comes back, he was entertaining. I don't know how it did. The writing has dipped way more than the expectations. I am being way generous with the ratings, but, writing team. Please get it better. We need more of The Boys.
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
The cookie that keeps you wanting for more.
"Only Murders in the Building" swiftly captures attention with its mix of comedic detective thrills. The show's play between mystery and humor hooked me from the start and kept me engaged throughout. Initially drawn in by the first season's opening episode, I found myself not compelled to return to the series after the pilot. This could be because of the low emotional connect.
Although the notable strength of this series lies in its pacing, ensuring there are no dull moments. However, this brisk rhythm sometimes hinders the development of emotional connections with the characters as discussed earlier. There was an attempt in the latest season to address this shortfall but it slightly altered the thrill factor, affecting the gradual buildup that some viewers appreciated less, but it didn't affect me. I found it good enough.
The writers faced with a challenge: striking a balance between emotional resonance and a fast-paced narrative. Finding this in a balance is tricky. Ultimately, the series leans more towards the thrilling detective elements, delivering a well-wrapped mystery bundle.
"Only Murders in the Building" excels as a multifaceted production, blending thriller, comedy, detective work, and drama. Its broad appeal resonates across various audiences, marking it as a must-watch. I just want more of it. Keep it going.
RECOMMENDED.
Barry (2018)
Barry is History of Violence meets Breaking Bad meets steroids.
Barry, a black comedy crime drama, wraps up with a stunning finale that is as unpredictable as it is chaotic, sprinkled with a healthy dose of humor.
While I feel that the plot sometimes reminded me of A History of Violence and Breaking Bad, it didn't hinder my viewing experience.
Despite the murmurs of negativity surrounding the final season, I believe it was a fitting conclusion that didn't end up being a rushed storytelling. The execution was spot-on, even though I initially questioned the necessity of the time jump, which, as it turns out, was both acceptable and crucial for breaking the monotony of the storyline + the payoff in the climax.
Bill Hader's directorial prowess in the last season is nothing short of amazing, complementing his stellar performance. Every character's portrayal is splendid, and their arcs are extremely defined. This combination of exceptional direction and performances cements Barry as one of the best crime dramas in the recent timws.
Rarely do series leave me in awe, but Barry has managed to bring that response multiple times. For enthusiasts of black comedy, action, and drama, I wholeheartedly recommend it. This is a must-watch.
Salute (2022)
A really good investigation slow burn drama and not a thriller.
Movie has it's flaws and it's strengths.
Strength -
Strength has to be the acting from the whole ensemble cast. Direction and screenplay for a slow burn thriller/drama is fantastic. The post-climax ending is brilliant.
Flaws -
The background score didn't excite me.
Low scope for the actors involved (wasted characters) and mind me there are a lot of really good actors in this movie.
A shaky climax.
Jai Bhim (2021)
Easily the best Tamil movie of 2021.
Powerful story and a brilliant work on the writing. The story grows slowly but the impact the performances give is just straight brilliance.
Lijo Mol Jose, Manikandan, Suriya giving their best. (in that order)
Derived from many true life incidents. This movie is an emotional rollercoaster. Best on from Suriya.
Thank you for producing such a brilliant movie.
Doctor (2021)
10/10 All the way.
At first, from the 15 minutes I didn't expect anything extraordinaire. But as the movie progressed, it became progressively hilarious. The editing, the screenplay, just wow.
Nelson, if stands for a long time in his career will be regarded as one of the visionary minds. Such a mediocre plot, taken in such a good manner to provide consistent excitement and entertainment. Nelson has proved more with the character development of SK and Vinay. Every character stands out quite amazingly. Nelson does another wonder. Hopefully, the one with Vijay is even 10% of this then he'll be receiving a hat-trick under his name.
Quite brilliant stuff, Nelson.
Completely overwhelmed by the movie.
Dial 100 (2021)
Manoj Bajpayee!!!
Movie has a routine crime thriller plot. A helpline, a killer, and a family. Not many locations used in the movie makes it a different and a standout one. A middling plot that revolves around for a duration near 2 hours. Screenplay has it's flaws. Story as per me was a predictable one but the performances made me rate it above 7 or 8 which it actually deserved. Although the one fascinating factor of the movie emerged was the ending. It reminded me of a Malayalam Movie (Nayattu) how police are being corrupted by higher officials.
Music is ordinarily good. Nothing brilliant not bad.
Manoj Bajpayee's performance stands off
A good drama thriller.
7/10 for the Story.
7/10 for the Direction and Screenplay
7/10 for the Music
10/10 for all the performances
10/10 especially for Manoj Bajpayee's terrific performance
10/10 for a honest ending.
A watchable plot carried by Manoj Bajpayee making it a must watch.
Haseen Dillruba (2021)
VIKRANT MASSEY!!!
Vikrant Massey deserves a National Award for this movie. A solid screenplay and a unique plot makes this movie standout from other movies there are some plotholes but it's okay. Taapsee with an average performance, Aditya Srivastava with a beautiful performance, but the main part was the character development and acting of Vikrant Massey that made me comment about this movie.
X-Ray: Selected Satyajit Shorts: Forget Me Not (2021)
Just Chills.
An episode worth remembering. Ali Fazal brings out his A-Game in this episode of "RAY". It being first episode of the series. It is a story about an Entrepreneur who never forgets anything facing a past memory that he has forgotten.
A beautifully written and directed episode with a fast paced screenplay. A gripping thriller and a dark comedy episode that fits well with this brilliant cast. 10/10.
Jagame Thandhiram (2021)
It's not as bad as people are saying it is.
Jagame Thandiram, a really good action flick with a heartbreaking story about Refugees. Karthik Subbaraj, a director who can create wonders with his art and a 2 time National Award winning actor Dhanush.
Pros-
1. Dhanush's Screen Presence
2. Santhosh Narayanan's crazy music. Let it be song or background score.
3. James Cosmo, Joju George and Aishwarya Lekshmi's supporting roles.
4. Cinematography by Shreyaas
Cons -
1. Plot seems to be unfinished.
2. The flashback comes way too late creating less of an impact.
3. It's more of a Ideological mie than Gangster.
A thoroughly entertaining movie with a lot of brilliant moments. Give it a watch. It isn't that bad.
