The Bear (2022)
Awesome sets, cinematography, but too emotional for me
The show does a great job with the setting, sets, clothing, cinematography, it really does a great job of letting the viewer know what kind of place they are in, puts us right there. But for me the show is too emotional, other aspects of the show get overshadowed by the high emotion, the characters and character development, the story, etc. And for me character and story are the best parts. With so much constant emotion it's hard to get to know the characters or enjoy the story. Which i find frustrating because the story and characters are very interesting and i want to get to know them better. Plus for me this is one of those shows that's called a comedy but is so serious the comedy gets lost. For me it's a drama with some humour in it,
Good Trouble (2019)
Rating down more like PSA & didn't like betrayals
I really enjoyed Good Trouble until it got into S2 and issues started to take over the show, it's one thing for a show to explore issues through it's stories, but quite another when the show feels more like a PSA and the actors more like mouthpieces for issues producers writers want to communicate. If u want to do this a documentary is a better medium! Carnival Row did a much better job of exploring issues without becoming a PSA, the show never felt like a mouthpiece for issues of prejudice, it was an excellent show, well acted and a great story, but i've personally never experienced a show that shows how terrible prejudice is so starkly and dramatically as Carnival Row does! ALSO I don't like how both Carrie & Mariana use their personal relationships with a man, gain privileged information by being in that relationship and then betray that person for so called "positive" aims. Sorry, helping others is admirable but doing so by betraying someone who trusts u, NO!
NCIS: Los Angeles (2009)
First two seasons the best
Before characters like Hunter, Grainger, etc were added to the show NCIS LA was 9/10 STARS. The strength of the show was the eclectic cast of characters who made it interesting and fun to follow the cases that they caught, especially Hetty, rest of the team as well, Nell, Eric I especially enjoyed. Plus i liked that they had some secondary story arcs that extended beyond one episode. After these new, more serious characters started to appear NCIS LA dropped down to 6/10 STARS for me. For me once the characters like Hunter were added that great vibe that the eclectic cast of characters brought to the show began to be diluted and to diminish.
Gisaengsu: Deo geurei (2024)
Love it
This is a great kdrama. First the CGI was very good the parasytes came over as very much alive and scary. The opening sequence when the parasytes drop in so to speak is so good, opens the drama with a bang. I really liked the way the drama unfolded the whole story with well placed flashbacks throughout, I don't usually like this but i did here. The acting was excellent all the characters were brought to life very well especially loved the actress who played the mutant, she did a wonderful job of portraying both sides of the character human and parasyte. Cinematography was great, story was well done, well worth watching and hoping for a second season.
Miss Scarlet & the Duke (2020)
Great show except for how Eliza is portrayed
Overall this is an excellent show, except for two very big things, how Eliza is portrayed and the relationship between Duke & Eliza. This part of the show was very disappointing to me! While Eliza is complemented on her ability as an investigator, the show portrays her desire and passion for investigating as a negative especially through the character that bullied her as a girl Arabella who tells duke Eliza will always put wk first and says she isn't saying it out of malice, which i don't believe for a minute. Worst, Duke actually goes out with Arabella, someone who bullied his friend in the past, what friend would do that? And the show in subtle ways almost makes it look like somehow Eliza is @ fault for being unhappy @ having a woman who bullied her around, and Arabella continues to do cutting subtle things to Eliza. Then Duke decides he will tell Eliza he loves her and then is going to leave, WHAT? He says he is doing it so they can have time apart and sort out their feelings, give me a break. Duke hasn't even tried a romantic relationship with Eliza, and he's saying they have to be apart? You have to try @ something before taking time apart, but he doesn't bother with that. And even worst he tells Eliza it's her fault, WHAT, this for me is total gaslighting, how can anyone be at fault when they have never tried a romantic relationship? Not only that, the writers choose to portray Eliza as not being intelligent enough to manage a group of men, i don't believe it, and portraying a woman character like this to me is playing into stereotypes rather than doing something new and showing an intelligent woman can succeed. Drops 4 STARS for the way Eliza is treated and portrayed, which is too bad since otherwise it is very good, acting, mysteries, costumes, sets, stories, etc. All great!
Castaway Diva (2023)
Very disappointed
I really loved this drama, up until episode 10 it had been a real feel good drama, full of hope and caring, but then for me all that was lost. Episode 10 changed all that when Mok-ha cut the family of ki ho out of her life so she could get success. To say i was very disappointing is an understatement! If getting success means you cut people who have loved and supported you out of your life, if your success requires that then you don't deserve it!!!! Especially after all Ki ho did for her, basically saving her life from her father, wow i just can't believe it!!!! Very very very disappointed!!!!
Strong Girl Nam-soon (2023)
Was disappointed
I was disappointed in this show, and i love k-dramas, i mean really love them💙 In the beginning i loved this one, the lost strong daughter was really nice and i was looking forward to watching, but the negative portrayal of men and a kind of abuse of men by the strong women in the show really put me off. I feel there was so much that could have been without how they portrayed and treated men, the mother on her motorcycle fighting crime, the daughter working with her after returning from Mongolia, but for me the wonderful possibilities here were overshadowed by the way men were portrayed and treated.
Sex Education (2019)
Awesome Show
This is an awesome show, the acting, the humour, the settings and sets and cinematography all wonderful, characters that are so real & well realized, with great character development throughout the series, great story, but for me the best part is Otis's sex therapy! Otis is empathetic, kind, informs well, admits when he doesn't know something, he makes his clients feel safe and does not talk down to them. For me all therapists should try to model themselves on him, he is just so down to earth and humble, so good. Also, i feel all of us can relate to sex and relationship struggles @ any age which is another thing that makes the show great. 2nd to last i like the adult nature of the show, nudity, sex scenes etc, for me it makes it better. And of course nearly all the characters have English accents, beautiful, love English accents.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Second season is much better than season 1
I have found that the second season of Wheel of Time is excellent as compared to good in the first season. The acting,, cinematography, nearly everything is much better for me. The on downside to this season and why i have it rated at eight stars instead of ten is how dark this season is and how much the bad guys have the upper hand. I really am not fond of shows ir books where the bad guys are given so much room and so much of an upper hand so that to the reader or viewer things look hopeless, and worst we get to spend way too much time with the bad guys, which i have as a watcher no interest in. I really don't care what the bad guys are doing, only interest is the good guys and their quest. So for me while this season of Wheel of Time is very much better than season one in many ways, the actual darker content of season two is not as good as season one, it actually for me is disappointing.
Citadel (2023)
Awesome beginning to CITADEL
What a great beginning to CITADEL! This mystery and spy show begins with a bang throwing us into Citadels spy world, but also throws us into a mystery at the same time, what's going on, or more importantly who is behind what's happening in the spy world? I like the loss of memory story line, it adds to the mystery and makes the former Citadel spies our surrogates as they navigate a world they have forgotten! Priyanka is one of my favourite actresses and she is wonderful here, sexy, strong, deadly! The acting is great, Nadia, Mason and Bernard are wonderfully brought to life, as is the main spy baddy! The locations and cinematography of the show are really great, very well directed with a great story, lovely action, can't wait for Nadia and Mason to kick some bad spy ass in upcoming episodes!!!
Unstable (2023)
Very funny show
I really enjoyed this series! Science nerds, lovely, love seeing nerds filling a shows spaces; Rob Lowe, awesome in the lead role, funny; the characters in the show are well realized and interesting, my favourites are the blue lab ladies; soundtrack, it adds a great ambiance and vibe to the show; funny, yes, laughed out loud alot, for me the true test of whether a comedy is very funny; i am looking forward to hopefully a 2nd season. Lastly I really don't like IMDB making reviews a certain number of words, reviews should be the length the reviewer wants it too be, a great review can be just a few words long, as long as it catches how u feel about what u are reviewing, that's all that matters.
Zhui xu (2021)
Near end main character actions drop my rating
I really enjoyed this drama for the most part, the acting was excellent, the sets and the cinematography were very good, it had a good soundtrack and the story itself was very interesting, taking a guy with all the business knowledge and learning of today and seeing how they can affect the past, fun! But my rating for this cdrama fell because of something that happened near the end of the drama, when the main male character killed two people! Just killing people for revenge is a no go for me, especially when, for me, you are supposed to be the good guy! Brings my rating down from 10 stars to 3 stars.
Wednesday (2022)
WEDNESDAY is Awesome
WEDNESDAY is awesome, one of the best shows i have seen on Netflix!!!!! The acting of Jen O is so good, she is wonderful as Wednesday, her delivery of her lines is perfect! She alone makes Wednesday worth watching. Then there is Tim Burton, he has done a wonderful job of bringing this sbow to life, the mood, the camera work, the sets, is all deliciously wonderful. The supporting cast is also very good, i love Thing!!! Then there is the story, that has so many levels, Wednesday's life and conflict with her family, a new school, Wednesday and her visions, the creature killing in the forest, and what mysteries are going on at the school. Wonderfully yummy tv!
Partner Track (2022)
The law and u, who are u to each other?
I really enjoyed this show, it was wonderful to see an asian american woman lead headlining the show, glad to see more asian characters coming into shows and movies, we need more!!! I liked the other characters, at least the ones who are likeable, not the unlikable ones, though those characters were very well acted, and the story,was interesting, fun and very relatable, all of us have tried or are trying to figure out who we are and the main character and her friends are also trying to figure this out, especially in relation to their chosen profession the law. Now i have finished my review but because IMDB has decided u have to write @ least 600 characters i am adding on some filler text!
Hwan Hon (2022)
Awesome
I am loving this k-drama. The action in the first episode was AWESOME!!! And the characters, as the show progresses, grow in complexity, becoming more and more real, all this set in a wonderful, magical, heart-breaking, amazing, heart touching story!!! WOW, this drama just keeps getting better and better with each episode,wow!!!!!
Hustle (2022)
Basketball awesomeness
This was an awesome movie. Adam Sandler was excellent, really bringing to life the experience of a NBA scout, and the life of a man who loves basketball. I really love these kind of movies that give us a glimpse behind the scenes of what something we usually just see the surface of if like, like players being drafted into the NBA. I loved the basketball scenes, just watching them i came to love basketball more and want to start following it more in the future. Also a real feel good movie, and i can always do with more of that kind of vibe in my life!!
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
The Verdict is in, The Lincoln Lawyer is a great watch
The Lincoln Lawyer has a Bosch like feel to it, LA, jazz, ex-wife, daughter, justice system, etc, though coming @ things from the other side, defence attorney rather than policeman. Most of the show takes place in Lincoln cars, not a gritty police station, different and kinda cool. It was interesting exploring the defence part of the justice system, i enjoyed this exploration and getting to see things from that angle. Also, the show has a really nice balance between the personal lives and the lawyer lives of the characters, which i liked. It has a main series arc that is handled nicely, the story of the arc revealed bit by bit as the show progresses, keeping you glued to the story to see what happens next in the mysterious case @ the heart of season 1. Also i really like that the main character is 1/2 mexican and spanish is spoken on the show, adding diversity to characters and shows, language, culture, etc makes them, for me, better and more interesting. Similarly to Bosch, The Lincoln Lawyer is a great show, the acting is great, the cinematography is great, the story is great, 10 stars.
Tin Star (2017)
Violence and gritty-ness overshadow story
Tin Star has, at it's base, an interesting story of a UK family transplanted to Canada and the father Chief of police in a small town in Alberta when things get decidedly unquiet with crime, but, for me, that story is overshadowed by the violence and gritty-ness in the show.
The Boys (2019)
too violent
There is a good show here, it is interesting to have an exploration of the negatives of Sups, but the storyline and exploration of this is unfortunately, for me, overshadowed by graphic violence and gritty-ness, taking front and centre over the story and characters.
The Flight Attendant (2020)
loving this series
Well very well acted show, especially by the main character, with great camera work, great pacing, great story, mystery, everything comes together to create a wonderful to watch show!!!!!
Suspicion (2022)
a fun thrill ride of a show
A fun thrill ride of a tv show, with twists and turns that u won't see coming, well acted, with a few of my fav actors in the cast, the cinematography was great, loved the on location shooting, shows for me are always much better when actually shot on location, the differences for me are obvious, gives the show a much more real feel.
Turning Red (2022)
Be Yourself
Great animation on this movie, next to Spiderverse the animation here has been my favourite. Also a wonderful story, but then again, any story that has a red Panda in it has got to be good🙂 , This is a story about finding yourself, being yourself, a message all of can be reminded of cause being yourself can be tough.
Black Widow (2021)
Awesome Movie, kick ass heroine
For me this was the best, most enjoyable movie of 2021.
What makes a great movie for me?
1. i don't notice the movie as i am watching it, i am completely involved in it for all the playtime, from the trailers to the credits.👍
2. The second point is harder to describe but i guess i would say that it's the story is organic, it all goes together very well, it has an authenticity and realness to it.👍
included in both of these is wonderful acting, great cinematography, and a great story, plus a kick ass heroine.
Chicago P.D. (2014)
disappointing
I usually enjoy cop shows, but not shows where the cops use violence regularly while they fulfil their duties. Like Hawaii Five 0, Chicago PD tells the false narrative that it is ok for the police to use violence, to beat up suspects to get their job done. This is an idea we are trying to get out of society, the use of violence to solve problems, especially by the police, whose job it is to protect everyone, even criminals.
Heart Shot (2022)
Beautiful and shocking
Shocking and beautiful, love hurts sometimes and in this film this fact is magnified, all of who we are impacts our relationships, we bring us to those who care about us. Well acted and wonderful.
