Gladiator II (2024)
One of the movies of all time
Not spectacular from the very beginning the movie was running on the identity of the first one. Everything interesting about it was from the first movie. One of the most forgettable sequels ever. Paul mescal couldn't deliver at all most of the times it felt like he wasn't even the main charecter. Certainly nowhere near the gladiator Russell Crowe was. Denzel Washington was the only solid part about this film. It was a long film but the whole plot felt rush and couldn't make the crowd feel anything. Highly forgettable and another miss by Ridley Scott. At this point I won't be excited for his upcoming projects. He seems to have lost it.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
It was great but certainly not epic
I certainly didn't expect it to be on the same level as fury road and it wasn't. My first issue is the CGI action scenes which really didn't do it for me. But I liked spending more time with the wasteland and seeing more of it. Annya Taylor joy was good for the little time she was in this movie. And it is a good prequel clearing many things of the first movie but the question remains did they really needed to be cleared. But the best part of the movie was Chris Hemsworth. I never imagined him as a villain but he did very well surpassing all expectations. But again the stakes of this film didn't feel large enough and I will be waiting for a madmax movie with the real Max in it.
Dune: Part Two (2024)
Epic masterpiece
The most epic movie I have seen in the cinema hall. Surpasses the first part in stunning fashion. Every minute of this movie was one adrenaline rush after the other. There is always something happening on screen it is as if the powder keg which was the first movie finally exploded. The fights and battle sequences were one of the best I have ever seen. And To me the biggest achievement of Villeneuve is that he used each and every member of his ensemble cast with perfection. Timothe Chalamet is slowly turning into the next big thing of Hollywood and he gives a career defining performance. Zendeya also proves she is worth the hype. And Austin Butler ever since Elvis he has been on form. Although he didn't get that much screen time his potryal was stunning. Javiar Bardem also acted fabulously. It is rare that every actor gives their best in such a stellar cast. Also Rebecca Ferguson has outdone herself. I cannot wait to watch the Third part on an even larger screen. Dune is the epic of my generation.
Poor Things (2023)
Utterly fascinating
A mind boggling masterpiece it is a fabulous coming of a age story of the most unique kind. Cannot be categorised in any specific genre. From amazing creative camera work which keeps the viewers on his toes. Emma Watson deserves another Oscar for her role. Specially how she captured the gradual improvement of the charecter both in physical and mental aspects. William Dafoe also shines in his comedic and yet touchy role. To me it was the most beautiful film of the year and the way they built the sets was absolutely mesmerising. Everything about this film was perfect. I loved what they did with the story and how it unveiled itself. It is filled with eroticism which never feels cheap or extra rather keeps the story moving forward. Cheers to Yargos lathimos he made a modern masterpiece.
The Iron Claw (2023)
Touched my heart
The tones of this film changed so drastically at the end. It literally made me feel my full emotional spectrum. It begins showcasing the glory days of wrestling and heartwarming moments of brother good. But as the movie reaches its half point it tells about the haunting tale of one man's ambition. Never for a moment it felt dragged on. Every scene every dialogue hit it's perfect mark. Zac Effron gave the best performance of his career. It was evident that he worked his heart out. Jeremy Allen white is always on top of his game. But who impressed me most was Holt Mccullaney with his potryal of such a critical character. Despite all the tragedy the beauty ending left a sweet taste in my mouth. Beautiful movie.
The Holdovers (2023)
We need more movies like this
Probably one of the best Christmas movies ever made and surely the most beautiful one. Each and every frame and aesthetics of this film was far beautiful than the previous one. With the best music I have heard this year. The use of the songs and background tracks were perfect. It wasn't just aesthically pleasing the plot was heart wrenching and inspiring. All of the characters were beautifully drawn out by top notch acting. Paul Giamatti gave the best acting performance of this year with a stellar side cast who were at the top of their game. This is without any doubt the best film of the year for me. Because it made me feel my emotions and I could relate thoroughly with it. We really need more movies like this.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Pure beauty from Scorcese
I will get the negetive part out of the way first. Is it too lengthy, sure it is. And I don't want it to be short. Because every minute of this haunting retelling was required to make the watcher feel atleast a fraction of the pain which was suffered by the Osage people. Lily Gladstone gave one of the best acting performances of the year. I don't think any other artist could have conveyed this heartbreaking tragedy perfectly. Leonardo DiCaprio again proves he is the perfect guy to play the role of the villain. Well we can't call him that directly because he marvelously played such a morally weak charecter this is the first time I saw him do this. Also de niro may he never retire. Even at this stage of his career the acting range he posseses is phenomenal. Each time he was on screen he became the center of all the hatred and malice and was the perfect antagonist. And lastly Martin Scorsese is the greatest living director, his work just keeps getting better. And I really appreciate it that he still gives so much heart into his movies.
The Killer (2023)
The worst movie by Fincher
I was looking forward to it. Everything about this film seemed perfect and it is nowhere near it. The only positive thing I can find bout it is the smiths music playing in the background. Micheal Fassbender acts as if he forgot the basic element of being an actor. I am literally feeling sleepy. There was no narrative let alone any action. I don't even know how fincher managed to show so little in two hours. It was as if this film pioneered a genre where movies are just boring waste of times. Don't watch this pile of garbage. Rather rewatch The game or fight club. Also it felt like fincher just wanted to be done with this.
Barbie (2023)
Good jokes and a disappointing Ending
At the interval I was surprised of how much I was enjoying Barbie with its amazing humour which was super ironic and subtle commentary on male patriarchy and consumerism. The overall theme of the movie was also quite good reflecting many aspects of human life and how it becomes more critical with age. But it was so disappointing in the third act which takes away the brilliant build up. Ryan Gosling showed his ranged and made me laugh so many times. Margot Robbie shined brilliantly just like she does during the whole film. But I expected more from Barbie and Greta Gerwig didn't satisfy me. She should have tried for a different sort of ending.
Oppenheimer (2023)
I have witnessed greatness
I can't type straight after watching this masterpiece by the great Christopher Nolan. The presentation of the story was out of this world. At the end I was horrified by the reality of this film. Cillian Murphy gave one of the best performances I have ever seen of a conflicted man who tried his best to choose the lesser evil and failed. And how masterfully Nolan captured it. Every explosion shook the soundboxes in the hall and made me realise and feel the dread of the Atomic Bomb. Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr were fabulous. One of the greatest and most important movie I have ever seen. Mind blowing experience and a dream come true.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Cruise the king of blockbuster movie
What more can I say than first "Thank you Tom Cruise for making going to the movies worth it. It's been a pleasure to experience your sheer genius in cinema. "This is till now the best movie of the year. Cannot wait for the second part to arrive quickly. I was literally on the edge of my seat with thrill. Not a single dull moment. And the masterful stunts are perhaps the most thrilling in movie history. After they way they ended fallout I really thought it was the best way you could end an action flick. But Tom Cruise and Co outdid themselves. With Benedict del Toro playing one of the greatest villains of all time. If you haven't watched it yet,it's your turn to rush to the movies.
Asteroid City (2023)
Stylish and beautiful
I cannot enough appreciate Wes Anderson's sense of beauty. His colour grading style is simply exceptional and there is nothing like a Wes Anderson film it's a genre onto it's self. The cast was fantastic and the way the whole movie unfolded was great too. Although it lacked a bit in the emotional department of the plot but I could overlook it because of how beautifully it was made, filled with Wes Anderson troupes. So as a Wes Anderson fan I enjoyed it thoroughly and it was a treat to see many of my favourite actors William Dafoe, Steve carell, Adrien Brody and Tom hanks. The all star cast was amazing tho I missed Bill Murray. Overall much better than the "French Dispatch"
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Pure ART!!!!
It's not just an animated movie,it is a piece of artwork. The animation style still feels new and fresh despite being a sequel. And what can I say about the jaw dropping entries. Every charecter got a worthy entry which made the audience shout and clap with joy. Background score was superb loved everyone of them blended perfectly and more than that made their scenes better. The story felt much more mature than the first one giving many of the charecters development. My new favourite comic book movie surely. The only bad thing is I have watched it. Wish I could see it for the first time again. Cannot wait for the sequel.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
John wick never disappoints
Action all kinds of actions possible. It was preetyyy good as a great action movie. Although felt kind of repetitive with the third part but didn't bore me and they managed to give a very decent ending which I didn't expect. The best part about this movie for me apart the mind blowing endless action set pieces is that it develops John Wick into a great protagonist. During the middle part of this movie I was actually questioning the reason behind John wicks struggle but in the end they gave him a well deserved ending. The background music was amazing also fight choreography. It was a brave desicion not to shoot any of these fights in pitch black darkness and it payed off. One of the best action films ever.
Babylon (2022)
Hard to explain, you gotta experience it
First of all I will come out and say it,this film had some big spectacles and a great cast but failed in a way to use them. However they really developed the charecters well in my view. Before the last 10 minutes of the film I was feeling like this was way too morbid without any reason. Then I kind of got the meaning behind it. Although it's my personal opinion which is sure to vary from person to person , the film actually wanted to say how when you are involved in the making of a motion picture, you are actually doing something larger than yourself or even your life. You get to be part of something big which if executed properly will make you immortal. The execution of this idea isn't flawless by any means still I loved watching it. And Brad Pitt along with Margot Robbie gave sizzling performance .
The Menu (2022)
Delicious
Movies like this are a rare breed nowadays. It is chillingly original. And the plot expresses it's message so clearly. It isn't about a really vague philosophy rather the topic which the film shades light on is really connected to our day to day life. We can even say it's one of the essential part of living. Raphael Finnes and Anya Taylor joy won my heart with this one. Whenever they uttered a line or came to the screen I was spellbound. This time I will not say anything to criticize it. Because I didn't watch it. I savoured it. The suspense was built on really masterfully,I didn't feel bored even for a bit. And it ended with a sweet taste left in my mouth.
The Fabelmans (2022)
I love Spielberg's combination of style and heart
This is most probably the most personal Spielberg movie there is. It isn't any of the epics which we associate with Spielberg nor will I say it's his best work. It can sometimes feel like a rich guy who is full of himself but the way the film is shot and the whole narrative is penned by the great Tony kushner the film passed me by in an instant and I think it achieved its goal of making me appreciate and value the art of film making even more. It is not the most painful or struggling biopic in the financial perspective but it masterfully shows his pain, his demons and most of all a guy who just can't help loving the movies.
Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
One of the best war movies of recent time
Never expected a netflix movie to shake me to my core but this film kept me frozen in my seat even after a few minutes into the ending credits. It made me think about war and what it does to people. Just as the book had done. But this time due to the superb acting, marvelous cinematography and flawless direction that feeling will stay with me for a long time. They took a great desicion by using an all German cast which made it feel ever more real. And the way they made me feel connected to the charecters. I mourned each one of them and kept praying for the movie to be war soon ,so they could get a happy ending.
Blonde (2022)
Mixed feelings
Ana de armas gave an inspiring performance and she really acted her heart out. The story and it's execution was a masterpiece at places and the cinematography and aesthetics were on a new level. As I don't know that much about marlyn I don't actually care how they portrayed her. The main accomplishment of the film is that it shows the horrors of Hollywood masterfully and how sometimes famous people or actors lose themselves as a person underneath the limelight and become somewhat of a lost soul. In some respects they failed to make it feel impactful and it seemed disjointed sometimes. But to see ana de armas act her heart out and netflix do something new is truly refreshing. And it's such a long film but surprisingly didn't seem dragged.
Bullet Train (2022)
Stylish Action joy ride!!!
This film was all about its Japanese aesthetics. And hilarious fast-paced well crafted action sequences. The jokes were perfectly placed and it never seemed full even for a second. Anyone who wants 2 hours worth of pure enjoyment should board the bullet train asap.
Hawa (2022)
A revolutionary Bangladeshi cinema
First of all yes it is a slow burn but the cinematography and the ambience is so fantastic it won't ever let you feel bored. Then comes the stellar acting performances by the whole cast. Chanchal chowdhury was fabulous.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Worst film of my life
Don't waste your money on this. The jokes were the lamest in the world. The film had no pace. And it was cringy af. Marvel is over. Please stop disrespecting the art of cinema like this. Disgraceful movie.
The Offer (2022)
The best TV show I have seen in a long long time
After days I binged a show crazily like this. This show had everything mafiz crime drama. The Hollywood life and most of all the story of how God father was made. It gave me goose bumps after goosebumps. A phenomenal work. The way they presented the whole story could not take my eyes off it for a minute. The casting was sublime and acting out of the world. It inspired me to rewatch the God father trilogy for the 4th time.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Tom cruise keeping cinema alive
This is what I call cinema. Edge of your seat stuff. The way they gave us the old top gun movie vibes it was truly classy and very emotionally touching. I could feel like I knew all the charecters from heart. And the flight sequences and the action scenes they are just out of the world. And about the ending, well Tom cruise is an expert in giving goosebumps worthy memorable endings,in my opinion this was his best one till now.
The Northman (2022)
Hard to find a film like this nowadays
This is one of Robert eggers best work. The story wasn't anything new but the twists were really spot on. Really loved the cinematography. The fight scenes were excellent and they were finely ballenced. It was a finely paced film. All of the charecters acted really well specially Nicole Kidman was on fire. The ending was predictable yet pleasing. Overall this is how a movie should feel like.
