Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004)
A Fun Ride
Tremors 4 goes back to the original concept. There are no Shriekers or Ass-Blasters, just Graboids. Also, it's very much about a community keeping together. I was very fond of this idea until it occurred to me at the film's conclusion that the action scenes were too far apart and there aren't enough. Still, the film certainly is a worthy entry into this fun series. I enjoyed that the creators tried something the same yet very new. They could have gone further with it, but what do you expect from films that are given a relatively small yet modest budget.
One thing I was nervous about was Michael Gross being totally different. I liked his Burt character, and I knew he would probably come into this one as a wuss. Sure enough, he was. Fortunatly by the end of the film we realize how Hiram and Burt could be related. He becomes a mean gunman.
I also enjoyed the return to miniature and puppet/animatronic effects. There was too much CGI in Tremors 3, and it suffered. CGI in Tremors 4 was kept minimal.
Overall, it was a fun little film. It had some funny moments, and some great characters.

Batman: The Movie (1966)
Hilarious! Fun! Over the top!
Watch the Special Edition DVD of this film and you'll know that no one ever took this movie or the show seriously. It was supposed to be this dumb. And it works.
Several lines in the film are so dumb it's hilarious.
"a ball point banana!" "some days you just can't get rid of a bomb"
And several scenes are absolutely crazy!
Batman and Robin saved by a dolphin. The shark repellent scene. All the scenes of Robin solving a riddle. The bomb scene. The exploding octopus.
You can tell they just had fun with it. Most fun of all is watching 4 great villains play off each other. The actors (Burgess Merideth, Cesar Romero, Lee Meriwether, Frank Gorshin) are so obviously having fun, and they know they're getting paid to do it. The Penguin has always been a favorite of mine. I used to watch the show as a kid (I'm 20, so it was obviously reruns) and still stop if I see it on. It's so ridiculous, so unrealistic that it puts a big grin on your face.

Bringing Down the House (2003)
One of the funniest movies in years
This is a great film, I was suprised at how much I liked it. Martin and Latifah have great chemistry as to opposite people. People who call this film racist take things too hard, there are far worse movies than this out there. Non if it is taken seriously, even the whole audience applauded at the end of the film. 10/10
Jason X (2001)
Almost good, still entertaining
This movie could have been a whole lot better had it been given a bigger budged and Todd Farmer's script not been messed with as much as it was. This is by no means a good film, but it manages to keep you entertained for 90 minutes. A guilty pleasure. In a year with this and Halloween: Resurrection (which was better), I had much to look forward to in 2 of my favorite genre franchises. 6/10
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
Halloween is back
After taking a nose dive with Halloween 5 and 6, the Halloween films are brought back to life with H20. Don't get me wrong, as I said in a review for Jason X this film could have been better. But having Laurie return excited me, and I loved it. Great to see her kickin' butt one more time!
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
A mystery best kept under wraps
What made Myers so scary was the fact that you didn't know what drove him to such insanity or made him indestructable. Trying to explain his origins would have been a tough thing to do right, and this doesn't come close. Does this film bore? no, but had they kept the producer's cut instead of this version it might have been worthy.
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Underrated? yes, but not much
The series hit its low point (if you dont count part 3) with Halloween 5. While some good things about it, ie Donald Pleasance, most of the film fails. However, its never boring. Its never so bad you want to turn it off in a fit of rage. Despite the horrid performances from some of the supporting cast and the poor mask Michael wears, it keeps your attention and manages to get a few little chills in. This films continuety sucks (how did the Myers house become a mansion?)but if you can get past that its ok for the most part. While not as good as 1,2,4,6,7 it manages to be better than 6 and much better than 3.
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
Gives you something to turn to after Halloween 3
What makes this movie a worthy sequel is the fact that it apologizes for Halloween 3. While Laurie is sorely missed, Jamie is a fine replacement. Great to see Loomis is back and ready for action. Another plus is the return of the original version of the theme which sounded odd in Halloween 2. This film is the third best in the series, and a fun watch.
Halloween II (1981)
How can you not like it?
Take the original and add this to it and youve got one long movie! Dick Warlock is a perfect Shape and one of the best in the series. This is one of the few times a sequel, while its not better than the first, remains faithful to the original. Some of the movies flaws such as no patients in the hospital had me bothered, but not enough to bash this movie in the head. Its great!
Halloween (1978)
Creepy till the last frame
I have loved this film since I can remember. The creepy shots of Myers in the background peaking through windows is enough to make me feel goosebumps. And that theme, perfect! Goes to prove that a small budget can go a long way.
Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
A very worthy sequel!!
After hearing and reading several bad things about the making of this film for the past 2 or 3 years, I had not a single ounce of hope for it. But being a huge Halloween fan as I am, I went in, saw it and was very pleasantly surprised at this installment. Go see it!
Jaws: The Revenge (1987)
Where did the budget go?
Is it just me, but are not only these movies getting worse, but so are the effects. Didnt effects improve over 12 years between Jaws and Jaws 4? If this movie had a 23 million dollar budget, where did it go? Caine? Bahamas filming locations? The construction of Universals Falls Lake in Hollywood? One good thing about this film would have to be Lorraine Gary's performance. She has a great presance in these films, and it is fun to watch her go after the shark. But the story, effects, and supporting acting make this movie flat out ridiculous.
Jaws 3-D (1983)
Not terrible, but not good
Jaws 3 (aka Jaws 3-D) was best viewed in the theater in 1983 with a pair of 3D glasses. Having not seen this movie on the big screen, I try and watch this film without picking on its poor visual FX. Jaws 3 could have been a good movie had more time been spent on the script instead of 3D effects. But the sad looks (and sound, is it burping?) of the shark (which doesnt have much of a role until the end) and poorly put together cast made this movie a low in the series. Not as bad as Jaws: The Revenge, but not as good as Jaws 2.
Jaws 2 (1978)
Pretty exciting follow up
Jaws 2 is worthy of being called a pretty good sequel. Despite the fact that the character drama and shock factors are now gone, this movie just comes right out with showing the shark on a rampage. Jeanot Szwarc did I fine job, with an interesting "horseback shot" on the shark. Definatly the better of the 3 sequels, and still holds up well.
Jaws (1975)
One of the few perfect movies
Jaws has been a favorite of mine since childhood. It is a movie where even though everything during its making went wrong, the final product ended up so right. From hardly showing the shark, to its wonderful chemistry between characters, this film is both scary and exciting. The best movie of all times!
