Apocalypto (2006)
Mel Gibson is now the world's best director!
I am speechless after watching the new Mel Gibson movie Apocalypto. What a brilliant movie, fantastic direction, flawless in every way! This is a masterpiece and without doubt the best movie to come out in 2006 or the last 5 years! Very violent, but as always the violence has a wider purpose. Gibson has a vision that is sadly missing today by other directors! In Norway they had to increase the age limit for Apocalypto from 15 to 18 after pressure from tabloid newspapers looking for sensation headlines! The decision was based on lies that a lot of 12 year old were watching the movie together with their parents! Even in Norway the parents can think, and I would like to see proof on parents bringing their young children to see a movie like this!
Catwoman (2004)
Great movie - Don't believe the critics!
I love Catwoman! What a great movie!! I had no expectations prior to watching this movie, thank's to all the negative criticism from newspapers and members at IMDb! So who would blame me for not wanting to watch this movie? It seems to me that there has been a hype to slaughter this movie and many have been tempted to follow!
In my opinion Catwoman is not as good as X-Men or Spiderman, I admit that, but far better than Hellboy, Hulk and Daredevil! I think Halle Berry was the perfect choice as Catwoman and hope there will be an sequel! The story is not original and revolutionary by all means, but for the audience that expects to be entertained and not lectured, Catwoman absolutely deliver!
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Well done thriller!!
"Butterfly effect" has thrills in form of horror, fantasy, psychology and is in many ways filled with both sadness and hope! A very human movie and that's probably why I liked it so much! The main character Evan tries his very best to remember happenings in his past, that has been blocked out of his mind. He has since childhood been writing a diary, and he discoveres that by reading his diary again, he can change events that occured in his past and by this change both past and future. He uses his skills in order to help his friends and correct gruesome happenings in the past, but with unknown consequences!
All of you who liked Donnie Darko should check out Butterfly effect! Easily the best movie made this year, with an exciting script from the beginning to the end! This is a movie who challenges the viewers imagination, without giving to many clues! Starring Ashton Kutcher, who have done several comedies and the talented Amy Smart who really does an excellent preformance worthy an Oscar! The first time directors and writers of "Final Destination 2"; Eric Bress & J. Mackye Gruber have outdone themselves with "Butterfly effect"!! 10 out of 10!!
Wrong Turn (2003)
Fantastic movie!
After several recommendations I decided to watch Wrong turn myself. I had no expectations! The story is about 5 people who get stranded at a deserted side road in the middle of nowhere in the deep forest of West Virginia. In the forest there is a family of inbreed mountain people who lives on unknowing tourists passing by. When I say lives I mean hunt and eat!
This is a movie with a decent budget, upcoming actors, nice special effects and believable makeup! Producer is Stan Winston, the director of Pumpkin head and special effects maker on many blockbusters!
This is a fresh movie, relieved from silly one-liners and ridiculous gags! Highly recommendable! 9/10
Chik loh dak gung (2002)
Naked weapon
I ordered this dvd movie, having no expectations at all, except hearing some good reviews in different dvd forums. Let me tell you: I LOVE this movie! It has everything you can dream of! Beautiful female assassins, great fight scenes, over the top action! Realism?! I will consider this movie as realistic as Matrix or Die Hard! Better expect to be entertained!! I like to compare this movie with Naked killer! It's a little less nudity, but the story and action is good!
I give this excellent flick 10/10!!
Musa (2001)
This movie blowed me away!
I have just seen Musa, and what a movie it was! The fight scenes, the characters.. Great casting and full of excitement and a pure joy to watch! Reminded me actually about Kurosawa's Seven samurai. Violent, magnificent and wonderful at the same time..
Ziyi Zhang is amazing in this movie! You might remember her from Crotching tiger, hidden dragon and Rush hour 2. This time she play a princess being held prisoned by a Mongolian leader and his army. She have to make the descission of her life.
This movie got everything! Great fight scenes, very visual, but most of all terrific acting and a good plot! It's amazing that a little country like South-Korea can manage to release a movie of this proportions! The director Sung Su-Kim has also written the story, making movies since 1978, and has now made the ultimate epic movie!
I'm stunned!!
Ren xia gui (1984)
Hocus Pocus is great fun!
This movie follows in the same spirit as Mr. Vampire, Dead and the deadly and Spooky encounters, mixing comedy and horror! This flick got a heart and even if it is scary, it's quite enjoyable for the whole family! Produced by none other than Sammo Hung, with headliner: Lam Ching Ying (Mr. Vampire himself)as the manager of a theatrical group who have to face the anger of an evil ghost!
Hocus Pocus is great fun and I give it 8 of 10!
Hellraiser: Inferno (2000)
Hellraiser with no gore!
Where was the gore? This movie is a pale mix of Lord of illusions and Hellraiser! Looks like the Hellraiser movies are getting more and more censored for every episode. This is the weakest contribution so far, and I won't be surprised if we soon see Winnie the Pooh and Pinhead together in the next feature! That's the way it's going. Pinhead wasn't scary at all and the other monsters were pale. The gore was completely missing and if I didn't know better, it could look that this movie was made for TV. Too bad!
Chik juk ging wan (1997)
Erotic Hong Kong psycho shocker!
This is not the movie you would let your children watch! The movie has nudity and even rape! Not so surprising since this is the story of a crazy psycho who kidnap women so he can rape and kill them! Top of the cake; he cuts of their legs and keep them as a souvenir! The rest of the body he dumps!
In a confrontation between police and some bank robbers, he takes notice of a female inspector with perfect legs. He gets obsessed with her and starts to invade her private life, breaking into her apartment, waiting for her to arrive! Even her family is not safe for this crazy madman!
Good acting, nice directing and a very realistic script, makes this movie better and more scary than an average suspense/erotic thriller! People who enjoyed: Henry-Portrait of a serial killer will definitive enjoy this Hong Kong flick!
Score: 8/10
Hap do Ko Fei (1992)
Toughest action flick ever made?
Shocking action for a mature audience! The first Hong Kong director to give John Woo competition! The movie is high explosive with Chow Yun Fat as the main man. Together with the excellent actors; Anthony Wong and Simon Yam, who manage to steal the show! Behind the scenes there were arguments and tension among the actors that the director on purpose used to improve the actors preformances. You can clearly see that Yam and Fat competes!
This movie is tougher than any american action, I`ve ever seen! Die hard is just a gasp compared to this flick! This thank`s to exceptional directing from Ringo Lam!
This movie is not to be missed by any fan of real action and Hong Kong movies!
