Jeepers Creepers (2001)
A bit disappointed
I got Jeepers Creepers DVD after reading its favourable reviews on dvd.ign.com and www.dvdreview.com, and thought it would bring me pleasant surprises... well, the movie was mediocre... it had a few fine moments, but simply not enough to hold my attention. And the story could have been a lot better.
The performance of the two leads (Justin Long & Gina Phillips, I think) was adequate, but the characters themselves are too annoying for the views to care for them. Funny how Trish in the movie commented what Darry did was "stupid things people in scary movie do", and throughout the entire movie you have to watch the siblings acting stupid. Really, to be stunned by horror on first encounter was one thing, but standing still for every single encounter was painful to watch.
Minor spoiler---
This movie certainly did not meet my expectations. Yet I did find the part where the creepers walk in front of the car was awfully funny as he looked so much like a Darth Maul clone... and probably that's about the only part in the movie which I found funny.

Akira (1988)
Akira DVD is coming! Hurray!
Akira is the undoubtedly a MASTERPIECE, and it's such great news to know that Pioneer is finally releasing its DVD here in the North America. Although this is actually a movie that should be appreciated in a theatre, but it would be nice to own it on a worthy medium (unfortunately I missed the special Laserdisc edition).
And the new Akira website is simply nice: www.akira2001.com
Dao (1995)
What a pleasant surprise!
It's a shame that a wonderful movie such as THE BLADE received so little coverage/attention from the masses. The only time I have heard about it was from a renounced film critic in HK, and he RAVED about it. And he sure was RIGHT! Tsui Hark did an excellent job here. The atmosphere is good, and the characters are real. As for the action, yes, it's a little too fast, but nonetheless beautifully choreographed.
The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery (1995)
Wonderful story! Excellent acting!
Even if you are not into computer adventure games, I assure you it's worth it to play this one so you could watch all those great FMV! Especially Peter Lucas as Von Glower! Trust me, it's you loss if you miss his performance as the charismatic baron. And the story itself is first class!
Sai yau gei: Yut gwong bou haap (1995)
One of Stephen Chow's best performances!
Don't expect this movie to be the typical comedy/adventure/action HK movie. In fact it's a very well written tragedy, not only about love, but life in general. The acting is excellent, especially for Stephen Chow and Karen Mok. Since the story is split into two movies, you must watch them both to fully understand the whole story.
Even though the characters are taken from the classic novel "Journey to the West", however, it has nothing to do with the original. I surely will not even consider it as an adaption... a REINVENTION is probably the correct word.
If all you are looking for is a few good laughs, the movie has plenty. But this movie definitely have more to offer, so enjoy!
Pride and Prejudice (1995)
The best production so far!
It's a great adaptation of the novel. The casting is wonderful. Although Laurence Olivier is still the best looking Darcy in my mind, but Colin Firth seems to do a better job at it. Firth's portrayal of Darcy has more emotions and passions, and Simon Langton probably wanted him to be an object of desire by repeatedly getting him wet...
As for Elizabeth Bennet, I personally like Elizabeth Gravie's performance in the 1985 production better. Jennifer Ehle seems too 90's for an "English" lady, even one with humor and liveliness, but she is definitely prettier.
Don't miss out!
