Ghost Story (1972)
Haunting, classic ghost stories..
I remember I was only 9 at the time but it was such a scary show and peaked my interest in horror films (which I now loathe). The episode I remember was "Half Dead." A young girls sister died after a brief illness, something about a headache/migraine being the cause..however the creepy part is I remember the little girl crying in pain and consequently dying before the older sister could get home..I see the shadowy steps, the dark yard. how the wind was blowing..and all the while you could hear, "Lisa..Lisa??' It was so creepy. It will forever haunt me. I would love to get a copy of that episode, I have even looked it up on Amazon.com to no avail. Wouldn' t it be wonderful if they could air it on TV land or Sci-Fi channel?
Hush (1998)
A mother-in-law no one would want to have
I loved this movie. Jessica Lange is very convincing as the controlling , vindictive mother-in law to Gwenyth Paltrow's seemingly unsuspecting Helen. Jonathon Scheatch (what a hunk) is the believable, niave son, does a fantastic job as well. Nina Foch is awesome, where did they get her? Overall, a great suspense-thriller
Roots: The Next Generations (1979)
A deeply moving account of American history no one likes to talk about
This mini series was televised in 1979, at which time, I was only 15 years old. I remember Roots, the original mini series which told the story of an African who was brought to America and was a slave. Although I had read about slavery in the history book, I never imagined how slavery really imprisoned the actual slaves. It's a part of history that we as Americans don't like to discuss, because of the shame. However, it did happen. It's strange how we show rememberance for the Hollocaust, which didn't even happen here, but we shun the topic of slavery, only briefly touch on it in the history books. Watching the series Roots really tears at my very soul for what 100 million slaves had to bear, how they lost their families, their language, religion, and ultimately themselves is heart wrenching. Roots, The next Generations, was also very deep, with an all star cast, and I was truly touched by the story of Alex Haley'
