it was funny!
i saw this movie not expecting that much... it didn't look too great from the previews. but it was really good! i didn't think it was much of a "mafia" movie either. i have to say that vince vaughn character's was the most entertaining part and had me laughing throughout, he did a great job. i watched it a second time with my mom and she loved it too. i recommend it to everybody that can handle lots of swearing...
All the Little Animals (1998)
great!
i was expecting this to be an awful movie but it sounded interesting so i watched it anyway. i was pleasantly surprised and never bored... i thought the acting was excellent, christian bale and john hurt are great in their roles. the thing i like about bale's character is the fact that he's not overtly "mentally disabled" but instead, it's very subtle.
i thought that the love and respect for animals that they both shared was beautiful and the people that REALLY need to see this movie are ones that feel they're superior to animals. no, we never get close to the animals themselves but we can still feel for them. i don't think there's anything ridiculous about mr. summers wanting to bury roadkill, afterall - would you leave a PERSON out in the open after they'd been killed for all to see? no, and even though mr. summers doesn't care for humans much, we can still see he's a caring person on the inside. he respects life and is upset with humans for thinking that they're the only ones that matter.
i can't believe people bash this movie, i didn't find ANYTHING wrong with it!
Return to Oz (1985)
fantastic
i'm tired of reading all of these negative reviews of this film! everybody that watches it needs to realize that:
1. it's not an actual sequel to wizard of oz, 2. it's based more on the books than wizard of oz ever was, and 3. it's dark because the BOOKS ARE DARK!
i've been watching it since i was a kid and yes it scared me, but i still loved it. just because a movie is dark isn't any reason to dislike it. fairuza balk is a much better dorothy than judy garland, her age is accurate as well.
Storytelling (2001)
duh!
i liked storytelling more than welcome to the dollhouse and happiness. none of these movies i found particularly comedic though.
i just wanted to point out something in response to another review about it copying american beauty: it was meant to! i think they put that in there to show how that guy was ripping off that movie because he was so crappy at making documentaries himself, he couldn't come up with his own ideas. there's also a connection to american movie, mike shank from that documentary films american scooby (see?) and he probably felt the same way scooby did when other people viewed their lives.
i think this movie would've been better if they either made "fiction" longer, or just took it out altogether and the whole movie be about the "non-fiction" aspect. i really wanted to see more and didn't like how the movie cut off like it did.. 8/10.
Below Utopia (1997)
justin, you deserve better!!
this movie was supposed to be suspenseful? it was more like a comedy to me!! ice-t's performance was laughable, and so was the director's/editor's. there were tons of problems with scenes: when daniel and susanne are in his car and she's topless, the next second we see her with her top again and him trying to get it off (even though he already did it!); after they've had sex in the basement and daniel is putting his shirt on, the next shot it's off again and directly after that it's back on. how could they miss that?! also, almost every angle when cutting from character to character is off. it doesn't match at all and it's really obvious.
whoever wrote this script is really awful too. what was the deal with ice-t's lines? "shut up stupi'! you foo!" the only good part of this movie was justin theroux (daniel), who didn't even make it on the cover box yet he has more of a major role than ice-t. he really deserves better movies than this, he's a wonderful actor and it's sad that he had to stoop this low. check out american psycho if you want to see him in a really GOOD movie!
The Last House on the Left (1972)
let me know...!
please, can somebody tell me why people find this movie scary?? i was looking forward to seeing something truly frightening, and according to everybody's description it should've been... but i found almost everything about it absolutely stupid. it started off pretty good, i thought the conversation between the girl and her parents was funny. the "escaped convicts" weren't convincing at all though!! actually, NOBODY was. everybody's acting was horrible and THAT is what made me continue to laugh throughout the movie. just plain bad.. if i wanna see something freaky, i'll continue to watch nightmare on elm street!
American Psycho (2000)
excellent!
i was expecting something totally different from this movie. everybody had said it was really disturbing and gruesome, it was in the "drama" section at the videostore as well. what i found was that it was a highly entertaining COMEDY. anybody that doesn't understand this film and thinks it's supposed to be taken seriously, is probably braindead. i didn't find anything confusing about it! plus, we never really see anything that disturbing, just a lot of blood. definitely NOT for kids though.
i thought the script, acting, music, EVERYTHING... was superb. christian bale really is one of the best actors out there. i need to buy this film. i watched it again the day after i saw it for the first time. i highly recommend it to anybody intelligent enough to understand it. 10/10

Moulin Rouge! (2001)
funny, sad, and beautiful at the same time
i can't believe there are so many negative reviews of this movie here. i must admit that i thought this movie looked like it was going to be just plain stupid when i first saw the trailers/previews. i wasn't EVER planning on seeing it, until my boss (i work at a videostore) recommended it to me and said she watched it twice in a row and would want to see it again. coming from a 50 something year old woman, i thought i'd give it a shot, i was amazed that somebody THAT age would love it so much!
i watched it and thought that the beginning was really idiotic. i couldn't stand it. once it got started though, and christian started to sing "your song," i enjoyed it. the ending made me cry really hard.. i ended up just thinking that i liked the movies and the other parts were just okay. but it really stuck with me. i bought it a few weeks later and listen to the songs constantly. ewan mcgregor and nicole kidman are really talented actors and i LOVE their singing, despite what other people say.
i know this movie isn't for everybody. i wouldn't recommend it to most men. but it DOES grow on you. i love all of it now and have become a big fan of ewan mcgregor's work. it deserves all the praise that it gets!!
do NOT let others negatives opinions of this movie stop you from watching it. i give it a definite 10/10!
Shallow Grave (1994)
unexpected, great movie!
i didn't really find this movie very intriguing when i read the back of the cover for it. but i ended up seeing a preview a few weeks later and it actually looked pretty good, so i rented it, not expecting much. wow was i shocked!! it was REALLY REALLY entertaining. and i find this more of a comedy than a "drama" like imdb calls it, alex (ewan mcgregor) really cracked me up.
i don't understand people getting all upset about the movie, saying they didn't like it because there were no likeable characters. well, i think that's the point. we aren't really supposed to LIKE these people. anyway, i enjoyed it a lot. and the ending was great!! wonderful acting and wonderful music also. i've watched it about 3 times so far in less than a week and bought it last night!
Road Trip (2000)
woohoo
i didn't ever plan on seeing this movie, by the previews i thought it looked pretty dumb. there was maybe one funny scene in the previews. i had been hanging out with some people and they all forced me to go see this movie with them and it ended up being really funny!! i DO like the tom green show, but i didn't think he was too funny in this so i'm glad he wasn't in it very much.. an actor from road trip that i'd like to see in more movies is paulo costanzo. i didn't even notice him in the previews but if there's one thing i'm happy about, it's going to the movies and discovering this lovely man!!
Problem Child (1990)
sooo funny!
i guess i am one of the few people that find this movie hilarious, i watch it every time it's on tv, i rent it.. etc. i have no idea why people seem to be so offended by it, you must be some mean grandparents or something. it's just a MOVIE and it's not supposed to be taken so seriously..
