En komikers uppväxt (1992)
Painful to watch
This is a TV-series based on the book with the same name. Both are excellent. The series tells us about the horrors of growing up in a small society where people are judged unfairly a lot of times. Those who don't fit in are doomed forever. It also shows how your experiences from childhood can affect you even in your adult life. Björn Kellman is a great actor and so is Görel Crona, but you've got to hand it to the kids who do an excellent job. Their portrayal of 12 year olds are very accurate and I recognised a lot from my own childhood, unfortunately. Lucky for me I was not the worst bullied one.
Dirty Dancing (1987)
Memories!!
I've seen this film many times and I never tire of it. I don't know what it is that makes it so good. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that it came in a period of my life when this kind of movie says it all. In 1987 I was 12 years old and madly in love with Patrick Swayze. My friends and me dreamed about being told things like "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" or to dance the seduction dance with a guy like Swayze. Typical teenage dreams. So this movie might not be the best film ever but the memories it evokes are so lovely that I still watch it every time it appears on TV. It was a while now since I saw it. Perhaps I should rent it.
A Room with a View (1985)
One of the best films of all times
This film was my awakening, both to Italy and Giacomo Puccini's music. It also includes some of my favourite actors/ actresses such as Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith and Simon Callow. Together with the rest of the cast they make this film better than the novel. I have never seen a film which was better than the novel until I saw this one. See it and fall inlove with Tuscany, British actors and Giacomo Puccini's music. The latter so masterly performed by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
Fem myror är fler än fyra elefanter (1973)
A series of programmes that let kids learn how to read in a fun way.
This is a series that taught a lot of kids in Sweden how to read in the 1970s, including me. It has been sent several times after that and it is always very appreciated. There are songs sung about every letter in the alphabet and those I still remember. Eva Remeaus died unfortunately a few years ago but both Magnus Härenstam and Brasse Brännström still appear in public. Magnus as the Swedish host of Jeopardy and Brasse as an actor in several plays. Although the series is over 20 years old, it still is very good and I think kids of today would also love it as much as we did when we were small.
