Frankly, I didn't expect too much from this movie. I thought it will be much weaker than director's previous century works. Although I admire him a lot, I was very sceptical before going to cinema. Luckily, I was extremly wrong because Delirijum tremens was the opposite of dissapointment. The story and acting is on a level that made Serbian cinema acclaimed. This is a film about dark side of the medal called famousness, about actors, their problems with the socially accepted vice - alcohol and all other inner demons (I don't know what was author's will but in some sceens I saw the similarity with Twin Peaks). It's about mental illnesses, loneliness and complexity of various theatre plays. Also it's about transience of theatre. This work of art made me think about many things in days and weeks after the screening. And okay, I should say that this film is not for everybody, but for people who use their brain, who like theatres and who are into non-mainstream films it will surely be a great experience.
Shamely, this film is not nomineed as Serbia's candidate for Oscar mainly for political reasons. Political situation in our country is catastrophic, politics affect every aspect of life in Serbia and that's why one mediocre movie is nominated (director is a member of the ruling party). That will affect the recognition of this film on international level so it won't be seen by many international public, judges and critics, but, in years to come, I expect Delirijum tremens to become real gem for cinephiles. 9/10
