You and your friends decide to chill over an action film and some chilled beer (or maybe some marijuana). You make inside jokes and carry on with friendly banter, laughing out loud on the lamest of jokes because you all are letting your hair down. How will that scene look like for an outsider who does not know any one of you? He either doesn't understand many of your jokes or thinks you all are just talking nonsense under the influence. I am disappointed to report that Mariyam Vannu Vilakkootthi (Mariyam Came and Blew It Off) is just like that. An ambitious stoner film, it is all over the place, neither making you laugh nor excited. A failure of gargantuan proportions, not able to utilise its talented cast, I will be surprised if you can even pass the first 20 minutes. But if you do, it is my duty to tell you that the last 20 minutes are at least bearable. TN.
Cant even watch it fully.. Utter nonsense direction and story-line. No message, Boring comedy & No class scenes.

Genre: Stoner Comedy (Stoner film is a subgenre of comedy film that revolves around the recreational use of cannabis. Generally, cannabis use is one of the main themes and inspires much of the plot. They are often representative of cannabis culture)
The story revolves around the union of 5 friends who have gathered in Mariyam Grorge's house (the portion rented by Namboodiri) to celebrate Namboodiri's birthday and the usage of a drug popularly known as Mandakini brought by one among them from Goa.
Literary terms to which the movie could be connected with.
The Aristotlean Plot:
Exposition (Where the charecters are introduced): Very well planned and organised introduction. The spectators will get to know about each charecters and their qualities. The element of humour has been maintained through out.
Rising action: Starts from their uniting in Namboodiri's rented house and using of the drug. The story is getting serious and is getting into the track here.
This is where we could say the Director has become successful. For a stoner comedy movie this part is vey important for it helps in making the spectators and the movie a single entity. Making it successful is the toughest task as far as a director is concerned and Jenith Kachipilly has nailed it.
The Climax (the peak point of the rising action): The Climax in general should be the peak point of the rising action but when coming into this particular plot, to be honest I am little disappointed as it did not fell in track with the rising action. However it cannot be called bad. Could be better called 'Not Bad'.
The Falling Action (the plot takes a slow pace after the climax): Justice has done.
The Denouement (or the resolution): This part of the plot actually determines how the plot ends. Has it ended peacefully of tragically. Any way this particular movie had a very peaceful ending with clear and direct advice to the spectators telling them not to use drugs to find happiness. However a critic may find an irony in it. If you are one; then you may go for it.
After Watching.
There are lot of movies which we leave in the theatre itself when we leave the place but there are few which we take along with us. Mariyam Vannu Vilakoothi is such a kind of movie which we carry along with us (particularly the humour elements) when we leave the theatre.

Absurd comedy is a very tricky genre. If you can't connect with the movie, the entire movie will look absurd to you. And if you manage to get that connect it will be a hilarious experience for you. I personally enjoyed watching the absurdity which was there in the treatment. What Jenith did successfully was pulling us inside that world he wants to create. There is a squirrel reference in the beginning that eventually becomes a metaphor for the whole story. And even though it had all the scope to overdo every scene, I felt the movie understood where to stop. The whole phone conversation between Baiju and Althaf was extremely hilarious and almost everyone along with whom I saw the film was laughing out loud for those bits.

Youth will love the movie. Fun filled movie. Cast is superb combination. I believe the movie dint work out much since there is no superstars in the movie. Everyone played their character to the best infact. I think this is going to be a internet hit like Aadu movie. I feel people should have gone and watched it in theatres when they had the chance. Now its too late. But really a fun filled movie.

This movie is absolutely fantastic. Great script and direction. Stepping into the adolescence and enjoying it's flavours, this movie is simply a perfect comedy thriller that went far beyond any expectations.. I can see someone born after 2000 and being 20 years old now and not being able to enjoy it. So sad. Grow up and later you could. 😂😂😂😂
This movie will always be a part of those Millinials who have experienced and enjoyed the effects of Mandakini, truly of what was so great at that time. Blessed are our forefathers. Good old days. 😇
