I sat down to watch the 2021 drama "Seven Deadly Sins: Envy" here in 2021 without ever having heard about the movie. And with it being a Lifetime movie, then I figured that I would probably be in for one their usual pseudo-sappy movies. But still, I opted to watch "Seven Deadly Sins: Envy" as it was a movie that I hadn't already seen.
And while "Seven Deadly Sins: Envy" is watchable, it was indeed an archetypical trademark Lifetime movie, for better or worse. So if you have seen anything from Lifetime before, then you know what you are getting yourself into here when you sit down to watch "Seven Deadly Sins: Envy" from writer Nneka Gerstle and director Damon Lee.
The storyline was adequate, but it was rather bland and generic. And I will say that "Seven Deadly Sins: Envy" didn't really offer anything new, so it felt like this was all something that had been done and seen before in other movies. So writer Nneka Gerstle didn't exactly manage to impress me with this 2021 drama.
The acting performances in the movie were actually fair enough. I will say that the actors and actresses in the movie actually put on good enough performances, given the blandness of the script and storyline.
I am sure that the is an audience out there for a movie such as "Seven Deadly Sins: Envy". I wasn't exactly the target audience, so I wasn't especially impressed with what director Damon Lee delivered. While it was watchable, it is hardly a movie that I will be returning to watch for a second time.
Without spoiling anything, then I have to say that the ending to the movie was just a bit too much of a sappy cliché. But hey, this is a Lifetime movie after all.
My rating of "Seven Deadly Sins: Envy" lands on a five out of ten stars.
