Look, its not a work of art, there are many way better adult cartoons but its not terrible, yes, the main character is intensely unlikebale but thats the point! You're not meant to empathise with him or like him he's meant to piss you off. There's a reason it's vulgar and inappropriate its an adult cartoon, people are complaining that it's sexual and gross but uh yea that's kinda the point to the genre, no not all it's jokes land and some get old and some of the story tropes are really quite basic, somewhat overused, but it's not a terrible watch, I've watched most of the season so far, give it a go the first 1-2 episodes are not the series' best and ya shouldn't really judge a show after only a few minutes of viewing
This TV show might have the most unlikeable main actor, well that's the point. Some people say the language is too vulgar, yeah it is true but nothing you haven't seen before. I do think that the story had some really good potential but didn't live up to the expectations quite well. Anyway I'll be waiting for next season, this needs more basketball.
Unlike many of the negative reviews, this show isn't as bad as they claim. It also isn't as good as the overly positive ones either. This is very middle of the road with some decent chuckles.
The biggest problem with this show is that they throw in too many F bombs just for the sake of being "edgy" but it doesn't come off that way. It just comes off overused. I am saying this not as some prude, quite the contrary; Jay and Silent Bob is one of my favourite movies and they dropped way more F bombs than this. I love Netflix's adult cartoons but this one sits dead last. Will I watch another season of it comes out? Yes. Do I expect another season? No.

This is one of those few show's you cant recommend to everyone.
People that might Enjoy Southpark or show's with excessive adult content may enjoy this show.
Its entertaining, but the excessive swearing (which happens on average every minute if not 30 seconds) can lose its entertainment value and become a nuisance to some. I've never seen a show that has this much in it.
The Storyline and characters I find very original, its not the usual "heres a family with individual personalities" etc.
The show doesn't use any side stories either, it just follows one theme which is somewhat refreshing.

It is not one of the best on the animated tv shows but it is good. If you like the stupid comedy you are going to enjoy this.
Honestly, I could only get through the first 3 episodes... It's not funny, they tend to use a lot of crude humor. I love crude humor.... when it's funny. I love adult animation, this however is a big miss for me.

So sad they didnt make a new season. I really can´t understand this! I´m having a blast seeing this guy throwing around with cursewords and such things. I LOVE THIS SHOW. CONTINUE FOR GOD´S SAKE. :)
I watched the first two episodes and almost every scene there is some type of perverse joke, often involving teenagers. None of the jokes are actually funny and the main character is very unlikeable and not to be sympathized with, due to his absurd behavior and lack of morality.
So it does not deserve any stars there, but to be fair the animation is done very well. There are nice colour schemes and very detailed background drawings, so the show is certainly really pretty to look at from an aesthetic point of view. For this I will give it three stars.
I am not going to continue watching it. This type of adult animated sitcom should not receive any praise nor views.

Trailer was pretty decent. Definitely for me wanting to check it out. So far watched half the episodes and it doesn't hold up too well. I mean it's okay like I said. Not horrible. Gets a few chuckles out of me per episode but that's kind of us. I'd say it's average in terms of Netflix (adult) animation. And no topic is of limit for them so far. Doesn't offend me but they seem to be using it to make up for some of the writing shortcomings. Worth a watch but don't expect a whole lot.
I'll preface this by saying I'm a basketball fan and big fan of other adult humor animated series, South Park, F is for Family, etc. I was only able to get through the first episode of Hoops and that was a struggle. I'm not offended by language but it was over-used and seemed forced. The show had potential but I agree with another reviewer who said Ben wasn't like-able or interesting. I guess you could say that about any of the characters.

It delivered amazing humor, i don't know why some boomers or people that don't understand comedy make bad comments about this show. Honestly was one of a few good comedy adult animated shows on netflix. Netflix ruined their chances by canceling this show.

Initially seeing the negative reviews, it made me curious to look the series in order to see if those criticisms were completely justified. After giving a shot to Season 1, I've come to the conclusion that "Hoops" is victim of unreasonable judgement from people who think that it doesn't follow "today's humor parameters and standards", without taking into consideration that humor is actually SUBJECTIVE and that every series have its own, different humoristic standards...And this comes from a long-time viewer that has seen far more irreverent, humorous series like Drawn Together, Rick and Morty, and South Park.
Moreover, it is also unfair to make a review after just watching ONLY 1-to-2 episodes and judging it as "garbage", because not only the bias is quite noticeable at first sight, but it also plays down the potential it could have, as well as the opportunity to improve further over time...And that's something that unfortunately has become kind of a hypocritical norm today, given the fact that some today's successful series had a turbulent start on its first seasons. The same can be said of those who complained it was too vulgar, because it was well known from the outset that this was one of several sitcoms aimed towards a public that likes black/transgressive humor and looks for some diverse content in today's politically correct world.
Now, I have to admit that Hoops had some problems in plot development terms, due to the fact that although the creators and producers had good ideas for the series, those just got tangled up when implementing it, therefore causing the series to have a difficult time getting off the ground, but it manages to do it without further issues at the end of the season. As for the characters, although the development of some leaves a little to be desired, I really liked them a lot and even some of them started to grow within me as Season 1 progressed, such as Matty and Scott. Also, I even felt identified with them at times.
And finally but not least, the series' point of controversy: the jokes. Here I'm going to differ greatly from those who gave this aspect a negative score, since although there were jokes that weren't so amusing, there were others that managed to pull a good chuckle/laugh from me; mainly due to the fact that I understood them through immediate reasoning and open-mindedness, apart that I did not set any "general humor parameters" while watching the series in order to enjoy it full-throttle.
I've the hope that Netflix renews it for a second seasons (Or another TV network that is willing to do so, in the scenario Netflix cancels it; such as FOX, Adult Swim, Hulu, or Comedy Central), since it has good potential to be successful in the future, it is simply a matter of giving it a chance to address all the shortcomings and develop to the better. Also because I'm one of several people who wants to know what will happen next in the story after such BRUTAL end-of-season cliffhanger.
PS: Shortly afterwards of doing this review, Netflix cancelled the series, which was very disappointing (but not surprising), given its tendency to take decisions based on its controversial algorithm, an aspect that has caused over time anger and frustrations among the platform's users and creators, respectively. However, I hope that with the renewed public interest, Hoops can find a new home where to demonstrate its full potential through a Season 2 onwards...Obviously, at the end of Netflix's two-year post-cancellation cooling period. But that remains to be seen.

At first I was laughing a few times despite the clearly sophomoric writing. It seemed like I could just watch it while zoning out and doing something else. But by the third episode, I realized I wasn't laughing anymore and everything was falling apart. The jokes were dry and humorless, and it felt as if they were beating a dead horse and we were stuck sitting here forcing ourselves to watch the abuse. Needless to say I could not endure and halfway through the third episod, I simply gave up.
I would not recommend anyone watch this, unless you simply have no expectation of anything good coming from it.

This show was refreshingly funny. The characters are all likable and the animation looks like a prime time show. Finally something to watch this year that takes you on a fun ride from start to finish. We've all been this coach! I find most Netflix animation to be a bit Hollywood pretentious or ridiculously vulgar, but this show breaks rules and stands out on all on its own. Ready for season two!
Honestly the show wasn't as bad people say it is, is it the funniest show out there no but it does have its funny moments and is definitely worth a watch.

I enjoy shows like this. Brickleberry, Paradise PD, etc. They aren't for the weak minded and easily offended. It's no coincidence that I started getting bored at the 7th episode and rated this a 7. At some point during 10 episodes you'd think they would be able to diversify the writing instead of going back to the same bit over and over. Hoping for a second, but much more creatively written season the next go round.
I've watched the first 3 episodes and while very funny and quite witty it's not as satirical as Southpark or F is for Family and not as funny as either of them, and Big Mouth does a better job of analysing school life. However it took F is for Family a season to find it's stride and if this show is happy to be funny but not particularly clever or groundbreaking that's fine. I'm curious if there will be any character development or story arcs and I may change my review to reflect that.
I literally made an account just to give this show 1 star. I've never seen a tv show on Netflix this bad.

When i first watched it I was MEH. It grows on you. Not as good as other adult cartoons but its ok I would give it a second season. More emphisis on the kids and players they could be some interesting story lines.
This was very fun & entertaining. Great animation style and compelling voice castings. The voice casts were terrific and fit well with all of the characters. Great characterisation and huge fan of the loud tone. Great flow, as smooth as in other adult animations like F for family and the simpsons. Very refreshing storyline, felt original (not really) and big fan of the odd intro song. Great sound scores and effects. Very appealing to older audiences. Great list of song choices at the credit scene. Now who doesnt like animations with relatable storylines, cursing and overdramatic scenes? This got everything. A lot of humours, adulting, cursing, suspense, action, etc. Recommended to every adults.

This is absolute garbage. I love profanity- I'm not PC. I love trash. There is nothing clever about this. I enjoy dumb characters written by smart people- the likes of Arrested Development. These are idiotic characters written by, what I can only assume are a gang of frat bros high-fiving each other for thinking the swill they regurgitated onto the page in the place of a punchline was a worthwhile joke. I don't need my humor to be high brow but I think only 12 year olds would find this funny. Whoever said it's like a Mad Libs is on the money. It reads like one I filled out in grade school. How this is in the top 10 on Netflix is beyond me. I got about 10 minutes into the pilot and told my partner to shut it off. I have no idea how this was green lit. Netflix, please edit! You don't need to green light everything. It's a shame because I DO love the cast. Jake Johnson was great in Safety Not Guaranteed.

This show is honestly pretty good and super funny. Yes, the humor is not for everyone but I still do not see a reason for it being cancelled.

The writing is awful for the first 3 episodes, but the season gets better and the characters grow on you. The excesive swearing makes the episodes a bit dull, but It's still worth a watch
The animation is good, it's smooth and pleasing, especially when the characters are in motion.
