I only review a series until the whole season has been completed, but from what I have seen after six episodes this is worth bragging about. It is a thriller of some sort with everything thrown into the mix bag of bizarre and twisted neo-noir. I see it as if David Lynch, Wes Anderson and Aki Kaurismäki had an orgy and created this deformed love child that has turned out to be a unique TV series. The tone and structure is hypnotic, dreamlike and far removed from any form of reality, but the emotions are hyper-realistic and challenging if you dare to dig deep. Together the creators Bruce Terris and Steven Conrad, (who got his brother Chris Conrad to star as the demented sad sack, New Leaf), have pushed the boundaries of the absurd, but not as far as David Lynch went with the recent Twin Peaks series. The highlight is the teaming of Ben Kingsley (as Father Byron Brown!) and Jacki Weaver, an inseparable God fearing couple who have been stung, so they hit the vengeful road, creating a path of redemption! Another Aussie in the mix is the cheeky Damon Herriman as P.A. Brown who created the chaos. So hang in there cause it was only by the third episode that I made connection, and it was worth the wait.

Great show. The casting is eclectic and inspired and the writing is unique. For me, any show that includes Jimmi Simpson is always a winner. Add a legend like Ben Kingsley, and you just can't lose. As an aside, why hasn't IMDb included Timothy Spall in the cast listing?

As someone in a YouTube video pointed out, this show takes place in "the same universe" as Patriot. We know this because one of the main characters, a teenage boy named, "Glenn Purdue", grows up to become police "Sgt. Glenn Purdue", whose PTSD service dog gets kidnapped in Patriot. The cinematography in Perpetual Grace was superb, and the acting and writing were top notch as well. In my opinion, this was a darker show than Patriot, but still had some incredible laugh out loud humor, using absurdity as a vehicle, just like Patriot. I have watched Patriot all the way through twice but had never heard of this show until today. I binged the entire season. If you loved Patriot, you're in for a treat with this.

I literally don't understand the general, never mind the specific Patriot fans ragging on this. It's really, deeply and darkly funny. It's about pretty goddamn shady people all round.. so what? The cinematography is superb - the dialogue IS ridiculous - all the time, for comedy - in the vain of Patriot but also deeply evocative of the Coen Brothers works.

I literally have no idea why anyone would criticise it for it's outlandishness. Ben Kingsley and all the other leads are on point.

I love this show! It's hilarious, quirky, eccentric, bizarre, and so cool! Ben Kingsley is phenomenal! The entire cast is great, and they do a spectacular job! I can't say enough good things about it.

The pace varies, and that's a good thing. It is sometimes laugh out loud funny, but always in a clever way. In my opinion this borrows heavily from the Coen brothers, which is in no way a bad thing. The innovation and superb script make it for more than just a homage, this show is still brimming with originality and inventiveness, nothing is ordinary and some of the scenes do not even need dialogue to make you howl with laughter. Ben Kingsley is amazing, taking the sinister character from Sexy Beast and making him into a kindly "Pa", as he likes to be called, with a dark side from hell. Everyone is incredible in this, Luis Guzman plays a wonderful, hapless, almost loveable sheriff, and the fact that so many of the cast of Patriot show up, gives a feel of an actors ensemble, similar to the roster so relied upon in the work of the Coen brothers. I hate to mention them twice because this work is a stand alone masterpiece. It's extremely clever, original, hilarious, dark and bloody, all at same time. It is so refreshing to see a show that has such incredible writing and taut masterful direction. Credit must be justly attributed to Steve Conrad, Bruce Terris, and Stephen Hoey, who wrote this fantastic show and the equally original and brilliant Patriot. This is a must watch

Felt the need to post an update - I'm on episode 7 and still looking forward to each new episode. Fun show, for sure

Ben Kingsley is so much more enjoyable when he's not portraying icons of history and hagiography, and the creative minds of the patriot have brought forth another beautiful visual poem for the soulful seeker bored by laugh tracks snd phoned in performance or the overly dramatic.

Others have said its Dave Lynch and Coen Brothrs mashup, but it could just as easily be said Jim Jarmusch and Wim Wenders, other wunderkin of the golden age of independent cinema-the 1980's, both in the use of landscapes, and the spare yet vivid dialogue and character development.

These productions seem gather artists like moths to a flame to ingender wonderful performances with both the gang from patriot and other great character actors gifted at their craft with integrity work. It's got an unapologetic punk vibe, not caught up in nonsense of the moment but rather the absurdity, horrific and humorous, of essential human struggles in the world of hard knock reality, beyond what humans paper over with consumer driven lifestyles and spiritual gimmicks.

Glad to see a McPoyle thrive.

I've also found some new musicians to appreciate, including Ben Kingsley.

Writing is amazing, coupled with the the fantastic cast who've all brought it home. The show never had a dull moment, not to start with the cinematography or the captivating plot. An easy 10/10

Binged watched this over 3 days which might have been a mistake. Great acting though, when there was some, and a compelling story line, but there were too many long, drawn out and repeated filler scenes of landscapes, walking, driving or brooding faces set to music. It was a very artsy film which I usually enjoy but after the 2nd day I couldn't wait for it to end. Maybe it would have been better as a 90 minute movie. Otherwise, I suggest pacing your viewing of it.

I love the quirky dark humor. It has a David Lynch vibe to it. Phenomenal cast of actors all of which were great. Well written screenplay and direction. I loved the pauses in each line to stress an idea - very clever. It is a bit slow so I suspect that might turn off some viewers, but I was fine with it because the quality was present. It was devilishly absurdly funny. Especially Ben Kingsley. I am annoyed they did not renew this show for a second season, and they left us with a cliff hanger. Supposely they will give this show a proper ending but when?

When I saw the cast I had high hopes. The first and second episodes intrigued me, but the third episode took a serious nose dive. If the nose dive continues through the fourth episode I'll probably drop it and not look back.

Fascinating, character driven story that unfolds at it's own unconventional pace. Interesting story, with it's dark humor, is extremely well acted and atmospheric. It reminded me somewhat of David Lynch's work but director Steven Conrad has his own unique voice. A fun ride.

The asthetics of the show is in my opinion a beautiful mix between modern-western, surrealistic shots and some backflashs in an own style.

It's not one genre per se, even if u first expect some kind of gritty noir, more a cross-over with a lot of eccentricity and absurdity, which could put you into the 'hate it'-group or exactly the diffrent one. For me it's the later one, because it's still got a 'could be real life'-feeling to the characters and the setting.

If u don't like voice over commentory it's not for u.

It reminded me roughly of Fargo -the movie-, the old Guy Richie with a bit of No Country For Old Man. Even if I like Ben Kingsleys part in the show, don't watch it just for him, u would probaly be disappointet.

After episode 4 there was just one scene, which I thought was to far fetched and not in line with the tone of the show so far.

Loved "Patriot." Quite like this one. It's clever and refreshing.

The only reviewers who gave this a good rating only saw the first episode. I myself could have given it a seven or or eight based on the premise and promise of the first episode. But it is pretty obvious the writers of this mess holder their audience in contempt. There is no story telling, the dialogue is for children, no irony. no subtlety. Avoid.

Clumsy backstory sequencing. Some writerly eloquence and inventiveness, for sure. Trails off into overly familiar territory at times, though it aims for Cohen Bros/Stephen King folksy quirkiness and wordsmithing. One character has been crafted into what can look like a series of 2nd rate Danny McBride impressions - very awkward to witness. The spaced-out pacing is deliberate, but tedious AF!

All the characters area unique. Sir Kingsleys' is one with complete focus that it comes off funny! I know it sounds impossible but he does it.

I'm only giving a 9 because I can't binge watch this one. The soundtrack is what made me come into this app. I wanted to see what bands are playing some classics, like "when doves cry" I hope they release an album, much like Tru Detectives on HBO.

It's probably gonna be considered dark, but it's enlightening too. It makes you want to rewatch episodes to catch each grifters' shakedown.

OK, I get it, given the intended medium, you can get away with using the F word.

But, for Pete's sake, it doesn't need to be in every other sentence. Yes, people use this word, but not all the time. Beyond a certain point it becomes intrusive, just as it would be if any other irrelevant word were frequently included in the dialog.

This show had me from the off. The casting the writing timing and chemistry of this show is unbelievably good. When Ben Kingsley does psychotic nut job there are few better especially the humour that he can bring to a bad man. Think of Don in sexy beast but give him a supporting cast that are all at that same level then you have perpetual grace LTD. Best show I've watched in years

Great casting and acting with quirky vibes, but without going too far over the top. Has the potential to be one of the greats. Hope the writing stays the course for the entire season.

Just finished the 3rd episode and am updating my review and rating. The show has quickly descended into nonsense. Super disappointed with how far over the top it's gone. The show's creators should have kept the vibes from episode 1 and scripted the show to be more realistic. It's delving into what seems like random bologna now.

Updating yet again..Have lowered my review all the way down since watching the 5th episode. This show has devolved into an absolute steaming pile of hyena dung. The level of nonsensical happenings and incoherent plot is beyond ridiculous. Save your time and give this one a pass. Could have been something fantastic, but unfortunately has turned into a pile of rubbish that should have never come into creation.

You will like this. A lot. It is void of cliches, original, dark, beautifully made and very well acted and directed. I am sick to death of the predictable, hackneyed, boring stuff that is all too popular. This is a perfect remedy.
