In 1949, the Shanghai streetwise Qiao Zhicai(Chen Kun) and his younger twin brother Qiao Lijie, together with accountant Huang Liwen must complete a secret mission and protect important people for communist party.

On New Year's Day in 1949, female accountant Huang Liwen returns to her hometown Shanghai in order to commemorate her husband and comrade's death. As a Communist agent, she is ordered to obtain valuable information for the Communist Party and aid them in their quest for liberation. During her mission, Liwen is reunited with her family members, and becomes acquainted with the streetwise Qiao Zhicai(Chen Kun) and his younger twin brother Qiao Lijie, who turns out to be a key player in Huang Liwen's mission.

On New Year's Day of 49, female accountant Huang Liwen returned to her hometown of Shanghai from the liberated area alone to mourn her deceased husband Comrade Zhang Xiaoguang. Under extraordinary circumstances, Huang Liwen was ordered to join our party's crucial "return to the province plan". She lives in the middle-class community of Zhenningfang, where she not only unexpectedly reunites with her family, but also meets Qiao Zhicai, who is kind and upright and full of the wisdom of a small citizen.
