Succession actor Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda and O-t Fagbenle have joined the cast of The Climb director Michael Covino’s upcoming sex comedy Splitsville, from Neon and Topic Studios.
The film also stars the previously announced Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Covino and Kyle Marvin. Neon International is shopping Splitsville at AFM in Las Veags this week. The indie recently wrapped production.
The comedy centers on Ashley (Arjona), who has asked for a divorce from good-natured Carey (Marvin), who then runs to his friends Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino) for support. Carey is then shocked to discover that the secret to their happiness is an open marriage, which he attempts, only to cross the line and throw all of their relationships into chaos.

Stephen Amell’s place in the world of superheroes and monsters was established the first time he uttered the famous words: My name is Oliver Queen. Soon after, he became to DC Television what Robert Downey Jr. was to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the godfather of DC TV, Amell was never so impactful as during his role as Green Arrow in the show that effectively launched the Arrowverse.

Behind the scenes of Something In The Water
Although the last few years have seen massive progress for female directors in the industry, there are still relatively few making action films. Hayley Easton Street is bucking the trend. As an art director, she’s worked on big titles like Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens, Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban and Ex Machina, but now she’s pursuing her directorial ambitions. Her shark film Something In The Water reached screens last month and she’s about to commence shooting on heist thriller The Climb. When we connected recently, she told me about how her eclectic career began, how she developed her skills, how Andy Serkis helped her to build up confidence as a director, and what she hopes to do in the future.

New York is a city constantly in survival mode — it’s a harried concrete haven for people who need a measure of desperation (financial or otherwise) just to get out of bed in the morning. There are so many things to hate about this place, but you have to love it because leaving is the only option less viable than sticking around. And to do that, you have to love the fact that everyone around you is in the same boat (which is why so many of us have adopted complaining as a love language unto its own). Solitude is hard to come by in the center of the world, but it can be all too easy to feel like you’re alone. The trick is to appreciate that you’re not.

Meryl Streep is lending her voice to the climate change crisis — literally.
The Oscar-winning icon narrates “Want to Tell a Great Story,” a new PSA that debuted today from the Sustainable Entertainment Alliance made in partnership with the Nrdc’s Rewrite the Future.
“Hey, want to see a story about climate change?” Streep asks in the opening seconds before a series of clips from Get Out, The Lego Movie and Anchorman show characters saying “no” in quick succession. “We get it, we really do. Climate change is scary. It can make us feel, well, a little anxious. And we turn to movies and TV to escape. But what if we changed the question?”
Streep does just that and alters the query: “Want to see a great story? Stories can engage with the climate even as they entertain. Whether they are dramatic or funny or stories of courage, stories about protecting what you love,...

Billy Ray Cyrus was just as much a part of Disney‘s Hannah Montana phenomenon as Miley Cyrus was. For example, Billy Ray wrote a song for Hannah Montana: The Movie that was about his experiences making the show. Interestingly, some aspects of that movie have aged in an unexpected way.
Billy Ray Cyrus wrote a song he called a cornerstone of ‘Hannah Montana: The Movie’
Hannah Montana: The Movie is the rare anti-Hollywood movie to come straight from Tinseltown. The plot line centers on Hannah Montana going back to her home state of Tennessee because Hollywood is supposedly too shallow. While in the South, she falls in love with a cowboy and matures a bit. The film champions Southern small-town values over Californian careerism. Who knows if Hollywood could make a movie like this today without sparking a major controversy?

“The show ended up being something we’re all really proud of,” admits multi-platinum recording artist, vocalist, actress and producer Miley Cyrus about “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party.” She co-hosted the NBC special with Pete Davidson (“Saturday Night Live”) and also served as an executive producer. For our recent webchat she adds that she “thought the show felt very pure and honest and it felt like it had really good intentions and that really shined through the show. We want to create new traditions, whether it’s doing music that no one’s heard or one-off comedy bits, like getting to see a Pete stand-up show, but you get to be right there. It felt intimate so it’s just exciting to think of all the possibilities that we can do in years to come.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

That’s a wrap on Fox’s “The Masked Singer” Season 7! All was revealed Wednesday night, as Firefly, Ringmaster, and The Prince went head-to-head for the top spot.
The Prince was the first to be eliminated after a rendition of “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay. While earlier in the season the judges had assumed that the contestant behind the frog mask was an athlete, they were confident he had to be a performer by the end of his run. Guesses included Ben Platt, Ricky Martin and Matt Bomer — who are all good friends of the actual competitor, Cheyenne Jackson.
“Once they started honing in on the theatricality of The Prince, it was very funny to hear them kind of listing off all of my friends,” Jackson told TheWrap. “I was laughing inside my frog head.”

Five years after winning Cannes’ Camera d’Or prize with her debut feature, “Jeune Femme,” French writer-filmmaker Leonor Serraille graduated to a competition slot with “Mother and Son,” a timely family drama spanning three decades. Serraille is one of the five female directors competing for this year’s Palme d’Or.
“Mother and Son” charts the lives of a young African woman, Rose, and two of her four children, Jean and Ernest, who come to France from the Ivory Coast in the 1980s with high ideals. Juggling her parenting responsibilities and low-paying jobs, Rose still aspires to find true love and to fulfill her own desires, but she ultimately struggles to reach a balance between her roles as a mother and a woman. Jean and Ernest, meanwhile, will take different paths to fitting into French society while coping with their identity conflicts and their mother’s life choices.

On the April 6 episode of “The Masked Singer,” Ken Jeong started jumping up and down when Ringmaster revealed that she was a “90s chick” as one of her clues. “I know exactly who this is!” the panelist shouted excitedly. “Oh my God! This is exactly who I suspected … This has got to be Taylor Swift.” Ken’s fellow judges and the live audience all started laughing at his (terrible) guess, prompting him to beg them to “stop giggling.”
When Ken realized that Taylor was actually born in 1989, he shrugged it off, saying it was “close enough” to the ’90s. Then there was the driver’s license clue, which made many fans think of Olivia Rodrigo‘s famous song. “Taylor Swift gave Olivia Rodrigo a shout-out, that [song] soared to number one,” Ken declared. “Taylor Swift, she supports artists.”

Entertainment industry heavyweights from France are sharing thoughts on their successes, the challenges they faced in a year overshadowed by Covid, as well as predicting what’s in store for the movie business in 2022.
Some of the country’s milestones in 2021 include the implementation of the E.U.’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive (Avms) to get global streamers like Netflix, Amazon and Apple TV Plus to start investing 20% of their annual revenues in French content, which broadcasting authorities (CSA) expect to be from €250 million ($282 million) to €300 million ($330 million) on average annually.
The country’s strict windowing rules are also getting a significant revamp which will allow streamers to have an earlier access — possibly 15 months — to newly released movies, compared with the current 36 months. While the indie film biz and the box office have been weakened by the pandemic, the French industry managed to get local pay TV group Canal Plus...

HBO Max has ordered eight episodes of Jason Momoa’s rock-climbing competition series, “The Climb.”
The streaming service describes “The Climb” as “a visually-arresting and life-changing adventure that represents the foundations of rock climbing and the exploration of the human spirit.” It continues: “In this all-encompassing competition, amateur climbers are put through a rigorous series of mental and physical challenges, utilizing the most intimidating ascents in the world to crown the world’s best amateur climber.”
That’s some pretty earth-y stuff for Aquaman.
Momoa will appear on-camera during episodes, an HBO Max spokesperson told TheWrap. As will his partner in this thing, professional rock climber Chris Sharma. Both are executives producers on the series.
“We are thrilled to be working with Jason Momoa and Ipc on this cinematic approach to a physical competition show with Mother Nature providing the most beautiful and challenging of obstacle courses,” Jennifer O’Connell, executive...

As the 2021 Cannes Film Festival arrived at its halfway point, filmmakers and industry insiders were eager to catch up with their colleagues, many of whom they hadn’t seen in over a year. On Sunday, IndieWire joined forces with The Gotham Film and Media Institute and sponsor Fiji Water for a rooftop toast to the American presence at the festival this year. The event took place atop Hotel 3.14, the former location of the Hotel Savoy, which once housed many Cannes attendees when the Palais des Festival was located further down the port.
The outdoor gathering was packed with familiar faces from the indie scene. Filmmakers in attendance included Sean Baker, whose latest feature “Red Rocket” marks his first entry into the festival’s Competition section, after “The Florida Project” premiered at Directors’ Fortnight in 2017. This year, that section is welcoming Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman, who attended the party the...
