- Seven Bulgarians living in a small town on the Danube river decide to become contract soldiers rangers to get rid of poverty. Their training drills and military maneuvers provoke smiles but thoughts as well for the fate of Europe and the world.—Tatyana Granitova
- The 7 characters of our film are fellow soldiers of the last obligatory recruit of the Bulgarian regular army service. All of them live in the misery of an agonizing town Vidin on the Danube river. They have just turned 30 years of age. And each one of them has already "crushed" or surrendered in the fight with life. The attitude towards wars of our seven fellow soldiers might be different, but all of a sudden a hope blossoms that their only chance to survive is to become contract soldiers. To protect the Bulgarian boundaries and to be part in NATO military missions. Somewhere in the world has always sounded the jangle of arms, the whistling of bullets and the roaring of explosions but all these were never so close to Europe and Bulgaria. So many times in the history of mankind rivers of desperate people have run away for salvation from their oppressors. But now horrified people flood in thousands in Europe, hundreds of illegal refugees are crossing Bulgaria... Our characters will undergo severe military preparations. They will be subject of" heavy" quests during the training and army drills. "Military inspection in occupied zone", "imposition of peace in liberated territories ", "desert drills". The trainings lead to victories but also to tragicomic failures. Our characters are honored with wounds , bruises and scars of heroes. The fellow soldiers don't give up. During a drill of surmounting the river bank they will catch a group of illegal refugees. Ruthless smugglers of people have robbed the foreigners and abandoned them helpless on a small Danube island. The faces of the exhausted desperate youngsters, the refugees who have paid to arrive in Austria , provoke emotions and questions in our fellow soldiers . Only one of our fellow soldiers - Jani is admitted for contracted service in the Bulgarian army. The other six return back to their previous "less glorious " daily occupations.
