Fair warning; I love horror shorts so I may have a higher opinion of this short than you, but this is a fun little horror short.
The film starts with hot blonde Lexi driving to her uncle's house to babysit. They chat for a while and, after giving her instructions and telling her to not bring any friends over, leave her. Lexi then spends a little time doing "hot girl in a horror movie who's babysitting" stuff -- dances around, makes popcorn, and watches horror movies on TV. She reluctantly agrees to let one of her girl friends visit but once she comes over, it turns out that there is another visitor, one wearing a mask, and Lexi needs to fight for her life...
"Almost Alone" is pretty low budget, but I like a lot of it. As a short (only 35 minutes or so) it dispenses with all the time is often wasted in slasher flicks before the action starts. It's pretty clever, too -- plays on our expectations with Lexi going through horror movie tropes while also having her go through an impressive list of potential "Chekhov's guns." There are some odd editing and framing, but unlike many low budget films it's well lit and with good sound. It manages to be entertaining, actually turns pretty creepy and suspenseful at the end, and Nicolette Sciortino is beautiful in her shorts and tank top and makes a solid final girl that is easy to root for.
A real surprise, definitely worth checking out.
