“A League of Their Own”, Prime Video’s series inspired by Penny Marshall’s 1992 feature, is no more.

On Friday, Aug. 18, Deadline reported the show had been cancelled, with the streamer deciding to rescind its original announcement that “League” had been picked up for a brief four-episode second season that would conclude the storyline.

According to the outlet, the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes were behind the decision; since production wouldn’t be able to begin on the new episodes until 2024 at the earliest, this would push the premiere date of those episodes to 2025 — resulting in a three-year gap between the first and second seasons.

Abbi Jacobson, who portrayed Rockford Peaches catcher Carson Shaw, took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the cancellation news.

“A League of Their Own” will not be getting a second and final season at Amazon’s Prime Video after all, Variety has learned from sources.

The show was renewed for what was meant to be a shortened final season back in April.

Prime Video has debuted the first “Daisy Jones & the Six” teaser trailer for the highly anticipated upcoming TV series, featuring “Regret Me,” one of the 24 original songs written exclusively for the show and recorded by the cast.

An all-star ensemble is quickly taking shape for Eddie Murphy’s “Candy Cane Lane,” with six more players joining the cast.

Comedy veterans Robin Thede (“A Black Lady Sketch Show”), Nick Offerman and Chris Redd, plus rising talents Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas (“9-1-1”) and Thaddeus J. Mixson have signed onto the holiday movie alongside Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross and Jillian Bell.

“Candy Cane Lane” is directed by Reginald Hudlin, who reunites with Murphy and producer Brian Grazer following their 1992 hit rom-com “Boomerang.”

While the movie boasts an impressive comedic pedigree, few details have been revealed about its plot. The screenplay comes from Kelly Younger, inspired by his own childhood holiday experiences. The movie is set to stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide as the first in Murphy’s three-picture, first-look deal with Amazon Studios.

The pitch: Baseball may be America's pastime, but during World War II, Major League Baseball was nearly forced to shut down because so many of the men involved had been drafted to fight overseas. To bolster profits and help morale stateside, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl) was formed, creating a full league of female baseball players who stepped up to the plate from all walks of life. "A League of Their Own" is a fictionalized account of one of the teams, the Rockford Peaches, told mostly through the perspective of their catcher and star, Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis). Dottie and her kid sister, Kit (Lori Petty), go from working on their farm in Oregon to being stars in the baseball league, and along the way they meet and befriend women from all over the country.

If January sets the tone for any streamer’s year then 2023 is certainly going to be the Year of True Crime on Hulu. That’s right, Hulu’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlight by several new true crime docuseries (and one charmingly goofy animated hero).

The true crime docuseries fest gets started with Death in the Dorms on Jan. 5. That will be followed by How I Caught My Killer on Jan. 12, and Web of Death on Jan. 19. Saturday Night Live fans are urging the sketch show to write a skit based on George Santos.

The US politician has been mired in controversy as of late. Santos is under investigation by Long Island prosecutors, after revelations surfaced that he lied about his religion, education and profession as he campaigned for office.

The Republican has publicly admitted to fabricating key details in his resume. He insisted, however, that he had not committed any crimes and intended to serve in Congress nonetheless.

For example, in his official biography, Santos claims to have graduated from Baruch College, New York City, with a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance.

Freddie Flintoff is “lucky to be alive” following a crash while filmingTop Gear.

The presenter and former professional cricketer’s son Corey has shared an update on his father after the BBC confirmed he had been “injured in an accident” while filming the motoring series.

Corey, 16, said that his dad was “Ok”, adding: “I’m not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.”

He added to Mail Online: “It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he’s going to be Ok.”

Flintoff, whose real name is Andrew, was reportedly filming a car review at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, home of the Top Gear test track, when the incident happened.

A BBC spokesperson promised “more details in due course”, stating: “Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attending the scene immediately.

Top Gear host and former cricketer Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff was injured in an accident this week while filming the BBC show on its test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey, England. Flintoff received medical care at the scene and was airlifted to a hospital for further treatment.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, the BBC reported. More details are expected “in due course,” a spokeperson said while a source told The Sun Flintoff was not driving at high speed.

Flintoff is a former England cricket captain turned entertainer who joined Top Gear in 2018, after Matt LeBlanc announced his exit, and shares hosting duties with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.

I’ll admit: Even as a professional television critic, I had to look up what cable or streaming service released “The Porter” this year. The CBC original series from Arnold Pinnock and Bruce Ramsey landed two Film Independent Spirit Award nominations Tuesday morning, and in order to be eligible, a TV show “must be available [in the U.S.] via network, basic cable, pay cable, pay television, pay-per-view, interactive cable, broadband, or digital distribution through streaming platforms.”

The 2023 Independent Spirit Awards television nominations were announced Tuesday, December 13, three weeks after the corresponding film contenders were revealed. This is the third year that Film Independent will be honoring small screen programs and performers alongside movie creatives. This year, the Best New Series (Scripted and Non-Scripted) and Best TV Ensemble Cast Spirit Awards categories remain intact, but the two individual TV acting ones have been overhauled. During today’s announcement, Film Independent President Josh Welsh said the organization hopes “to better reflect the diversity of incredible work being created” by establishing its gender-neutral Best Lead and Supporting TV Performance categories. 10 nominees are vying for each of these two awards, whereas only five apiece competed annually in the now-retired male and female categories.

Film Independent has revealed the television nominations for the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards, which this year have gone gender-neutral, just like its film colleagues. As revealed online Tuesday morning by Asia Kate Dillon (“Billions“), the annoncement included a winner: Apple TV+’s “Pachinko” won for best new ensemble cast, including Soji Arai, Jin Ha, Inji Jeong, Minha Kim, Kaho Minami, Lee Minho, Steve Sanghyun Noh, Anna Sawai, Jimmi Simpson and Yuh-jung Youn.

Overall, leading the nominees were ABC’s “Abbott Elementary,” FX’s “The Bear,” Apple TV+’s “Severance” and HBO Max’s “Severance,” all tied with three nods each.

Film Independent announced the TV nominations for the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Tuesday morning, with four shows in particular leading the pack. ABC’s beloved comedy “Abbott Elementary,” FX’s critical darling “The Bear,” the HBO Max limited series “Station Eleven” and the acclaimed Apple TV+ drama “Severance” scored the most nominations of any show with three each.

New this year, as with the film nominees, is a switch to gender neutral acting awards with the Best Actor and Best Actress categories replaced by a 10-nominee Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series award.
