Needless to say that I had, of course, never heard about this 2023 horror movie titled "The Exorcism Tapes", though the version of the movie I stumbled upon was titled "The Resurrection Man" for some reason. Regardless, given my love of the horror genre, of course I opted to check out what writer and director Jason Hawkins had to offer.
The narrative in the movie was pretty slow paced and rather uneventful. And the fact that you need to sit through XXX minutes of virtually nothing but the cast talking, then it wasn't a particularly effective exorcism movie, much less a scary horror experience.
Nay, "The Exorcism Tapes" was a swing and a miss from writer and director Jason Hawkins, and it is not a movie that I would recommend you to waste your time, money or effort on. Some of us suffered through this ordeal so you don't have to; you're very welcome.
Of course I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. And believe it or not, but that is actually something I do enjoy when I sit down to watch a movie, as there are no associations to previously portrayed characters in other movies. The acting performances in the movie were fair, taking into consideration the extreme limitations imposed upon them by an inferior script and character gallery.
This was a rather pointless movie and one of the most pointless exorcism movies I have sat through. Yet, I managed to endure all 70 minutes it ran for.
My rating of writer and director Jason Hawkins's 2023 horror movie, and I use the horror word lightly here, lands on a generous two out of ten stars.
