Vidya Balan puts in a blazing performance as the eponymous Indian maths genius in Anu Menon’s characterful feminist life story
In recent years, the Hindi film mainstream has become more proactive about telling the stories of notable women. This new one follows on the heels of last October’s crowdpleasing Saand Ki Aankh, which centred on sharpshooting sisters-in-law, but explores with far greater force its subject’s idiosyncrasies. What results is a biopic with genuine character.
The feats described here are mental: the eponymous heroine, Shakuntala Devi (Vidya Balan), was a phenomenal, Guinness World Records-noted mathematician who performed for many decades in the 20th century under the stage name the Human Computer. Director Anu Menon approaches her, however, from the unusual angle of Devi’s daughter, Anu (Sanya Malhotra), first seen marching into a London lawyers’ chambers in 2001 to initiate criminal proceedings against mum for failing to provide for her.

The premier new release of the week, Fox Star Studios? and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment?s Baaghi 3, has embarked on a good (single screens) to decent (multiplexes) start of around 35 percent on an average. And given the decent to mixed reviews, ?the film saw some pick up during the latter shows.?
With the ensuing holidays, extending into mid-week, Tiger Shroff?s Baaghi 3 is expected to end up with a good weekend (as well as) opening week haul. The first day appears to be around 17.50 crore. Having said that, the previous edition of the film had seen a superb 55 percent opening, but that maybe due to the Rambo feel of Baaghi 2.
Meanwhile, Anubhav Sinha directed Taapsee Pannu starrer, Thappad, held on quite well netting 22 crore(to be validated), which is much better than Saand Ki Aankh and Panga and second only to Chhapaak, if we talk about similar genre female protagonist films.

Taapsee reaction to Rangoli Chandel
She always has a lot of things to say. I just think that she loves me, I think both of them really love me and that?s because they give me so much of time and attention from their lives.
I honestly, unfortunately, don?t feel the same so I don?t give it back, I don?t give my time and attention to them because it doesn?t matter to me in my life or in my scheme of things. I don?t want to waste my time on someone who doesn?t matter to me but apparently, I do matter, is why I get so much of love and attention and time but I honestly find it so futile to instigate me like that.
If you really want to instigate me and make me say things, this is not the way.

Taapsee Pannu, who next will be seen onscreen in "Saand Ki Aankh", has said that actresses still get five to 10 per cent pay as compared to the total payment of male actors, primarily because the audience watches more male-driven films.
"I would like to urge people out there to give an equal chance to films led by females, because only then will change happen. Until now, we (actresses) get five to 10 per cent payment as compared to our heroes and that is because you all probably walk into a male-led films more than you walk into female-led films. If you go to theatres (to also watch female-centric films) then we can actually achieve equality in our industry. So, please help us to achieve that," said Taapsee, while interacting with girl students at a promotional event along with her 'Saand Ki Aankh' co-actor Bhumi Pednekar on Thursday in Mumbai.

"I crave for versatility as an actor and my next three films will showcase my diversity of choosing films. All three are incredible scripts and are films that are close to my heart.
