With a 90 page script written in 2 days, with the most basic equipment and finances this is a very well made and acted movie.
its a robbery gone wrong, and they need to hide away, ending up in an offseason coast town at a motel, where strange things starts to evolve, and what seems to me as a ptsd psychosis, starts to rumble the minds of the two culprits.
its a small cast movie, with a story that entangles more than one level of human existence, and the two main actors gives a very reliable performance.though the end of the story are in a blur, its somehow interpretable through the way its built up.
the grumpy old man gives a 6, acknowledging the score for the extra suspence, and recommends.

"Among Them" is layered with crime thriller bromide, faux paranormal teases, and character complexity that is as confusing as it is engaging. The story keeps you guessing from the moment the cast decide to hold up in a very disturbing locale. The film starts off almost benign, a bank robbery sends criminals on the run, but it doesn't take too long to realize that there is more going on.
The acting is a bit stiff, the cast seems committed to the characters, but also feel slightly reserved in portraying them. That being said, I did find the characters fully fleshed out and relatable. "Among Them" does start out with a slow pace but midway things pick up and the film pulls you in. But like I said, the story is super complex and slightly confusing. It keeps you wondering what is really going on right until the end.
The action and horror elements are typical paranormal-esque gimmicks that may or may not be all in the characters' minds. It all is very entertaining and the overall concept is both familiar and yet somewhat original. The closest film I can compare this too is "Soul Survivor", but that may not really be accurate. Like I said, the film kept me guessing.
Overall "Among Them" is a well acted, entertaining film. I am not 100% sold on the ending but kind of think I know what Barry was going for. It will be up to individual viewers to decide whether or not "Among Them" is a film to like. The faux paranormal moments are typical and the story does get a bit muddled toward the end. Still I found a lot about the film entertaining.

Seems someone tried to be smarter than the average bear, and wound up with a potentially good movie gone bad. Psychological crime thriller it was, but it would have been much better minus the psych.

What's with the positive reviews for this piece of crap? This is nothing but a confusing, jumbled, mess of a movie. The constant flashbacks are super annoying. It's hard to follow what's going on, and in the end, I have no idea what happened? The movie just sort of abruptly ends. Don't waste your time with this one.
Great film! Lots of mystery from the start to finish. Actors gave it their all and if anything the storyline is a winner. Should at least be a 7 on here
This is the type of film that makes you think and keeps you wondering about the characters and the story. A lot is left intentionally unexplained, letting you come to your own conclusion. Many shots in critical action scenes are also intentionally left out, causing you to fill in the blanks with your own imagination. This movie will challenge your mind. It was excellent.

Loved the way this turned out. Surprising ending and a fast paced action, thriller movie. Lots of suspense and decent dialogue also.

A robbery gone wrong as they then figure out what to do next. One of the better indie films out there. Lots of ups and downs and the actors are super talented.

What a movie. I heard they made this within a few days with the most basic equipment and I tell you what it's a lot better then a lot of these other films with big budgets. Proves that you don't need the most equipment to make a good film. Great plot and the editing and sound is on point. Support this film!!!!

Found this today and gave it a go. Good acting, quality script that was highly entertaining and the ending caught me by surprise. Worth the rent!
If you like David Lynch and Fincher, you will like Kevin Barry.
Among them is an experimental experience, Combining thriller smarts and scary suspense, this thriller sees Kevin Barry deliver a heady dose of paranoia and some jolting shots of movie violence.

I was lucky to screen Kevin James Barry's film during the Flagler Film Festival several years ago. I was blown away! I enjoyed the fact that it wasn't just a crime fable but it merged with my favorite genres - Horror and Psychological Thriller!
Set in a motel, two bank robbers; Keith (played with a tough vulnerable demeanor by Jonathan Thomson) and Mick (a great unnerved performance by Dan Liebman), are waiting for their boss to show up after a bank heist. But things get interesting when they find Syd (played by the talented Evalena Marie) in the trunk of their getaway car. Little by little you don't know what is true as they start seeing strange things occur around them. Their reality reaches an uncanny, intense, and powerful conclusion.
All my expectations of how AMONG THEM would turn out was thrown out the window. The players are filled with mystery and depth that slowly show something new with each experience. If you enjoy films that make you think after the credits role, then give this a try. If you are expecting a hard-hitting action film with mundane story or depth, this is not it. It's much deeper than that. A story about your past haunting you no matter how much you try to escape it. I enjoyed the surprises and a powerful ending. Give this unconventional psychological thriller a go!
