There was a scene shot of Fritz Honka's childhood when he was raped. But in the editing, Fatih Akin found them disturbing because it was a stupid explanation. Saying that "just because you are raped as a kid it doesn't give you the permission to be a serial killer. Lots of people have been raped as kids and not turned into serial killers and it would be a slap in the face to them".
Honka usually choose women shorter than him and often toothless, to alleviate his fears of mutilation during oral sex.
A female psychologist was brought on to set to help actors deal with the rape scenes.
Honka sawed the corpse of his first victim into pieces that he then wrapped up and hid in various places in the nearby area of his flat. The body parts were found and identified by Hamburg police, but their investigation did not find the murderer. In all other three victims Honka cut the corpses into small pieces and hid them in his flat and in the house's attic. The disappearance of the three women was not reported to the police. Complaints of other people living in the house regarding the stench of rotting flesh were disregarded. Honka used large numbers of pine-scented perfume blocks in an attempt to mask the smell.
