Filmed entirely on-location in three completely different regions of Guatemala - urban highlands in Guatemala City, Caribbean coast rain forest (Izabal), and Pacific coast region (Mazatenango and Escuintla)
The film was officially invited to the 75th Venice film festival on 23 July 2018, the world premiere at Venice was on 6 September 2018, and it was awarded Venice's Queer Lion the next day. By exactly one year after the invitation, on 23 July 2019, it had already premiered in 30+ countries, in 50+ festival cities worldwide: Middle East, Asia, Pacific, Europe, North America and Latin America.
A Guatemalan film, it is the first film from Central America ever presented at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival.
Over 600 people, coming from all over Guatemala, attended the open castings for the film
"Jose" lead actor, Enrique Salanic, is indigenous Mayan - an actor-advocate-activist, he speaks Spanish, English and Maya Ki'che - he was educated in Guatemala, Canada and the USA. He travel in Europe and Latin America to present and premiere the film, but was blocked from entering the USA as a "flight risk"
