Based on the short film Oppressed Majority (2010), starring Pierre Benezit, who plays the supporting character Christophe in this film.
The project began when Eléonore Pourriat was contacted by Netlix after Oppressed Majority (2010) was uploaded to YouTube and went viral in 2014. Pourriat suggested a TV series before settling for Netflix's proposed romantic comedy.
Very closely resembles, if not based on, Norwegian author Gerd Brantenberg's novel "The Daughters of Egalia" (1977). Although set in a different context the similarities are evident.
This is the first Netflix original film from the France.
