Lucy Hale will brave the frigid temperatures for her upcoming science fiction thriller film White Mars, which sounds a little bit like a modern take on The Thing.
According to Deadline, the actress has been cast as microbiologist Sammie, who has been assigned to an isolated research facility in Antarctica. Sammie soon finds herself fighting for survival when something evil infiltrates the compound with a single goal in mind: extinguish everyone inside of it.
Perhaps the most intriguing thing about White Mars is that it will be filmed entirely inside a virtual production studio by the entertainment company Singularity, which specializes in this kind of groundbreaking filmmaking technology that utilizes a mixture of augmented reality, CGI, and other cutting-edge tech to create immersive and realistic environments. Netflix used a virtual production studio to film the German mystery series 1899.

Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be heading into production on Scream 7 – but that project turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Coming our way from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise, Drop moved forward first, and is so far along that a teaser trailer was even show at the New York Comic Con over the weekend! That trailer hasn’t made its way online yet, but a teaser poster has, along with some story details. Here’s the poster:

Universal Pictures revealed the new poster for the Drop movie at New York Comic Con today. The new thriller from Blumhouse, directed by Christopher Landon, will open in theaters on April 11, 2025.
Drop is rated PG-13 by the MPA for strong violent content, suicide, some strong language, and sexual references.
First dates are nerve-wracking enough. Going on a first date while an unnamed, unseen troll pings you personal memes that escalate from annoying to homicidal? Blood-chilling.
Director Christopher Landon returns to the thriller genre with the playful, keep-you-guessing intensity he perfected in the Happy Death Day films with this of-the-moment whodunnit where everyone in the vicinity is a suspect… or victim. Everyone’s a suspect according to the new poster for Drop, the latest horror thriller from director Christopher Landon. And it brings with it a new release date.
Drop releases only in theaters on April 11, 2025.
Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy, breakout star of White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (It Ends with Us’ Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.
She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die.

The name Blumhouse has become almost synonymous with horror in the modern era, thanks to the success of franchises such as "The Purge," "Paranormal Activity," and the recent "Halloween" reboot trilogy. That sort of brand recognition is tough to acquire in Hollywood. That said, the studio has had something of an off year, and could use an unqualified hit to get things back on track. It looks like the upcoming "Speak No Evil" remake could be that much-needed hit when it opens next weekend.
Director James Watkins' take on "Speak No Evil" is currently eyeing a debut in the $15 to $20 million range, per Box Office Theory. While the budget has yet to be revealed, Blumhouse rarely goes over $20 million since its business model has always been predicated on spending low to potentially hit it big. Remember the halcyon days of 2010? The Marvel Cinematic Universe was still in its infancy, but much was already being made of any superhero movie that felt even slightly different from the future juggernaut's quippy origin stories. Future DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn's name was already in the middle of conversations about superhero ethics thanks to his new film "Super," while fans of Alan Moore's "Watchmen" comics were still debating the merits and myriad drawbacks of Zack Snyder's big-screen adaptation. From "The Spirit" to "Hancock," recent alternative superhero stories were actively dividing audiences who had yet to lay eyes on a single "Avengers" film.
Then "Kick-Ass" showed up. The R-rated action-comedy featured a scrappy teen hero, a little girl who loved to beat the s**t out of people, a fittingly odd Nicolas Cage performance, and the unofficially cinematic mascot of the late aughts, "Superbad" breakout star Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Exclusive: Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) will produce and star in That Friend, a bromance comedy about the dynamics of friendship and growing up, marking the feature directorial debut of writer-directors Will Sterling and Alex Wall.
In the upcoming feature, Guillén portrays Paul, that one friend we all have whose invitation for “one drink” seems harmless but the next thing you know, you’re drunk on a Tuesday, swaying in your kitchen eating dry top ramen out of the bag and wishing you hadn’t just sent that text. Henry is just trying to have a romantic weekend in Palm Springs with his new girlfriend Penny until Paul crashes their trip. And when Paul’s pack of drug-laced cigarettes disappear into the hands of a stranger, the night really takes a turn.
Production for That Friend is slated to begin in December, with Ryan Tillotson and the L.

Katy Perry and Madonna have been compared over the years, a fact that may have disappointed her parents. Perry knew Madonna while she was growing up. She did not like her, though. Perry’s family protested Madonna’s music and she was not allowed to mention her while she was in the home.
Katy Perry couldn’t talk about Madonna in her house
Though Perry listens to music across genres as an adult, she struggled to discover new artists as a child. Her parents did not want her to listen to some musicians.
“I just want to make it very clear that I come from very humble beginnings, and I worked for everything!” Perry said in a conversation with Kristen Wiig for Interview Magazine, adding, “I was not even allowed to mention the name Madonna … I think for my parents and their belief systems, the idea that I would be...

Coming later this month from Archie Comics is the one-shot Chilling Adventures Presents: Truth or Dare, billed as an homage to the late ’90s/early ’00s teen horror wave.
This brand new tale is part of Archie’s “Chilling Adventures Presents” anthology series, dedicated to standalone one-shots with the vibe of Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt.
In Truth or Dare, “When new student Trula Twyst comes to Riverdale, her mysterious and quiet nature doesn’t mix well with the squeaky-clean façade of Riverdale High. Tormented by her past and with a keen interest in Behavioral Psychology, she sets her sights on dismantling the traditional high school hierarchy from within. How? By a simple game of Truth or Dare.”
The Archie Comics team tells Bloody Disgusting this week, “This horror one shot is smart, sexy, and for fans of movies like Escape Room, Saw, and Girl, Interrupted.”

During The Bachelorette Season 21 premiere, there were not just one but two instances of nudity. Wanting to prove to Jenn just how far he’d go for love, the mullet-loving suitor stripped down to nothing and ran naked through the house. Jenn spoke with TV Insider about whether or not she was surprised by the amount of skin in the premiere. “Absolutely! I was not expecting so much nudity,” the 26-year-old said with a laugh. “But, hey, I told these men I just wanted them to be themselves, and...

Indian cinema triumphs at the 23rd Transylvania International Film Festival, which took place June 14-24 in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca.
First-time director Shuchi Talati won the Transylvania Trophy, the top prize of the International competition, along with its $11,7000 (10,000 euro) bursary for her feature Girls Will Be Girls, a mother-daughter drama that premiered at Sundance earlier this year. The drama follows a young, academically gifted teenager at a strict boarding school in the Himalayas who gets caught up in an emotional love triangle with her mother, as they both compete for the affection of the same boy.
“The story of this film is very rooted in India, but I always hoped that people outside this very specific space and time where the story takes place would resonate with it,” said Talati in a video presented at the Gala ceremony at the Cluj-Napoca’s historic National Theater on Saturday evening. “I...

Every drinker knows that mixing drinks in the same session is a bad idea. But that didn’t stop Seth Meyers and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who decided to go day drinking on a Tuesday in a Late Night celebration of her new movie, coincidentally named Tuesday.
The pair took over The Dawson bar in New York City and began quickly pounding them down, with Meyers mixing and matching behind the bar. Their drinks ran from a dry martini to a combination of whiskies, down to a Jägerbomb. There followed several sloppy brain teaser games, including a “Truth or Dare” competition.
As you would expect, It started to quickly go downhill as the alcohol kicked in.
In the words of Louis-Dreyfus, it was “the stupidest show I’ve ever done,” and ended with Meyers appearing to be passing out on the floor.
And as they say in show biz, “Always leave them wanting more.

Lucy Hale appeared in Cannes during the film festival last week, living the good life but also helping launch Good Life, a new feature film project from Angel Oak Films.
The $10 million production will be steered by filmmaker Bonnie Rodini, who directed the 2021 South African film of the same name. The adaptation is described as a coming-of-age tale set against the idyllic Italian countryside. It casts Hale as Olive, a young woman grappling with her family’s complex history. Production is set to begin in Italy in September, uniting Pascal Borno and Alain Gillissen of Angel Oak Films with Silvio Muraglia of Paradox Studios.
Hale is coming off a busy 2023 that saw the releases of Which Brings Me to You, Puppy Love and Inside Man. She is best known for roles in the TV series Pretty Little Liars and the Blumhouse and Universal horror entry Truth or Dare.

Universal Pictures has just announced (via Deadline) release dates – in some cases, new release dates for movies that are shifting around on their schedule – for five upcoming horror films… and every one of them happens to be a Blumhouse production. The movies in question are The Woman in the Yard, Drop, The Black Phone 2, M3GAN 2.0, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – and we’re about to go through them one-by-one.
First up is the thriller The Woman in the Yard, which was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but was bumped out of that date so the Blumhouse reboot of Wolf Man could move from this October to January 17th. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film, which stars Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till, Okwui Okpokwasili of The Exorcist: Believer and I Am Legend, and Russell Hornsby of The Hate U Give and Fences.

Los Angeles and Brussels-based Angel Oak Films is preparing a $10m adaptation of the 2021 South African drama Good Life to star Lucy Hale and has commenced sales talks on the new project in Cannes.
Whereas the original film and TIFF selection was set in Greece, this “fresh interpretation” of the coming-of-age drama will be situated in the Italian countryside.
Hale will play Olive, a young woman grappling with heartache who feels trapped in her New York life and flees to Italy.
Without a place to stay she sleeps in the ruins of her late father’s house, only to encounter hostility from the locals.

On dating apps, searches for “open relationships” continued to rise in popularity just as reality television embraced multi-partnered dynamics through shows like Peacock’s “Couple to Throuple.” Even in 2024, polyamory isn’t outright “mainstream” by any stretch of the imagination(s). But as far as contemporary relationships are concerned, the “three’s...

A Pisces, a Taurus, a Capricorn, a Leo, a Virgo, and an Aquarius walk into a rented mansion for their Libra friend’s birthday party. The seven college kids soon run out of booze, go poking around in places they shouldn’t, and summon a fate worse than death when they find a mysterious deck of cards harboring a hidden evil. Title card: “Tarot.” All signs… point to yikes.
Written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, Screen Gems’ latest scary movie is willfully ridiculous. It’s also the most original take on the haunted party game since last year’s well-loved “Talk to Me” with its own franchising potential as a supernatural series. If open-minded audiences buy into this transparently trendy gimmick and its melodramatic narrative execution, what feels like a spiritual “Final Destination” spinoff — told by way of an Urban Outfitters’ small gifts display — could very well...

Final Destination inspires yet another throwaway teen schlocker, this time with an increasingly risible astrological bent
As many of us impatiently wait for the sixth Final Destination film, slated for release next year over a decade since the fifth, here comes yet another limp attempt to recreate that specific, sadistic form of magic. Some curse, some teens, some shock deaths, a formula that’s been trotted out in so-what films like Wish Upon, Countdown and Truth or Dare, shrugs where shocks should be, franchise starters ending after the first round.
Which brings us to Tarot, a film wisely kept from critics until the very last second and one that audiences would be smart to keep themselves from too. It’s not quite as bad as these things can often be but flashes of competence are not enough to distract from a sense of crushing pointlessness, more watery slop served up...

Madonna, the iconic “Queen of Pop,” stands at a height of 5ft 3 ¼ inches (160.7 cm) with a peak height of 5ft 4 inches (162.6 cm).
At the 2013 Billboard Music Awards held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 19, singer Madonna, whose peak height was 5ft 4 inches (162.6 cm), stood at 5ft 3 ¼ inches (160.7 cm) as she posed in the press room (Credit: Kathy Hutchins / Shutterstock)
The Impact of Height in Celebrity Self-Perception: Madonna’s Perspective
She once mentioned feeling like a “shrimp” in an interview due to her height, although she believed it was average. For context, the average American woman typically has a height of around 5 feet 4 inches.
I’ve always wanted to be taller. I feel like a shrimp, but that’s the way it goes. I’m five-foot four-and-a-half-inches – that’s actually average. Everything about me is average. Everything’s normal, in the books. It’s the things inside me that make me not average.

Normally, the summer movie season would kick off with a Marvel superhero movie, but this May, we’re doing things a little differently. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
This year and for the first time since the pandemic, Marvel isn’t launching the month of May. Instead, Universal jumped on the date for its new action comedy “The Fall Guy,” loosely based on the popular ’80s series starring Lee Majors. Two of the Oscar-nominated stars from last year’s blockbuster “Barbenheimer” phenom unite for this new action rom-com from filmmaker David Leitch (“Bullet Train”). Those stars, of course, are Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, who were nominated for Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan‘s Best Picture-winning “Oppenheimer,” respectively, two of the biggest movies of 2023. “The Fall Guy” premiered at the SXSW Film and TV Festival and even played at the annual exhibitors’ convention, CinemaCon,...

Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be heading into production on Scream 7 soon – but that project has turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Coming our way from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise, Drop is moving forward first, and we’ve previously heard that it’s set to star Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus season 2), Violett Beane (The Flash), Brandon Sklenar (1923), and newcomer Jacob Robinson, who has a large following on his parent-run Tik Tok account. Now Deadline reports that Jeffery Self of Search Party and The...
