This is John Cleese's first starring role in a BBC sitcom since the legendary Fawlty Towers (1975) finished in 1979.
Series one of the sitcom was a major success for BBC One, opening with more than 6.21 million viewers and averaging 4.65 million viewers across its six episodes - making it one of the most watched BBC comedies of recent years.
On Friday, 11th May 2018 John Cleese revealed in a tweet that filming of series two of Hold the Sunset would be completed by November 2018, suggesting a broadcast date in early 2019. The BBC had not officially announced the commissioning of series two at this point.
