This movie belongs in a junkyard
Unsurprisingly, this was only created to cash in on Cars 3 that was released the same year. Thats's "The Asylums" modus operandi after all. While this didn't entirely rip off Cars, any original story was still poorly handled. Being mixed with songs that have lousy, mismatched lyrics and clumsy singing didn't help.
Here's the story: A rowdy young sports car named Danny partakes in street racing against the wishes of his father and best friend Cabigail. But after his father is totaled and faces death via scrapping on Clunker Island, Danny and Cabigail must set out to rescue him.
As with Trolland, there's a remarkable voice cast here consisting of Haley Joel Osment as Danny, Melissa Joan Hart as Cabigail, and Ed Asner as Art, but their performances are watered down by their lines. The dialogue is shoddy and often drawn out and the corny car jokes told throughout the movie were annoying.
Few of the characters are sympathetic, especially Danny, who is a street racing, juvenile delinquent who almost got his father killed, and Vin, who is a toxic friend that convinced Danny to race in the first place.
As usual for an "Asylum" movie, the animation is bad. The lame racing scenes have static driving animation that is as stale abd unexciting as the dialogue. The car models and buildings are bland and have little to no texture. There's copied and pasted car models and trees. The cars bodies and tires clip through their surroundings. The characters barely emote at all with their blank, beady eyed stares and the lip sync is almost as bad as Trolland. The list goes on.
I'll admit this was better than "Trolland", "Homeward", and "Izzies Way Home", but that's not saying much at all. It's still just another shameless and crummy rip-off made to scam unsuspecting people so "The Asylum" can make a profit.
