Yeah, the early 1990's were basically the era of the eco bandwagon. When Captain Planet And The Planeteers started airing, other companies wanted in on the planet-preserving craze. Global Gladiators is one of them, and it is a tie-in for the McDonald's chain of restaurants,
In the game, Mick and Mack (the two heroes of McKids for the NES) are reading a comic book about the Global Gladiators and wishing they can be one. Ronald is all but happy to grant that wish and teleports them into the comic book, and now, armed with Super Soakers that fire some orange goop (don't tell me this where they got the idea for that Oozinator) and must fight slime monsters, demented construction beavers, living trash cans, and other threats to the environment.
So, this game is basically a run and gun, as playing as Mick or Mack, you go through four world, each with three levels, shooting any enemies in sight while also collecting the McDonald's arches for bonus points. Other power-ups include hearts to restore health, clocks to add to the level time, and even 1-Ups.
This game is noted for its difficulty, and it shows. You get no invincibility time when hit, so you can die real quickly if your not careful, but one of the more frustrating elements is that your gun has recoil, meaning if you are not careful, you can push yourself off a cliff trying to ooze an enemy firing back. This game is nothing more than another meh tie-in to the fast food place trying to pose as having an environmental message, but I say Ronald McDonald should stop putting kids in comic books and stick to making hamburgers.
