Despite Kyle Allen's (Alex) lackluster performance, the rest of the cast manages to salvage the movie with their best efforts in a predictable plot. The most rewarding aspect of the film is the development of Jeff and his daughter Liz's relationship, as Liz's tough exterior gradually melts away to reveal her love for growing flowers. However, with the looming threat of a ruined planet and inevitable destruction, it seemed likely that Alex would leave for Mars. The cover of David Bowie's iconic song, "Space Oddity," provides a glimmer of hope. But unfortunately, the final plot twist was predictable and underwhelming, resulting in a mediocre rating of 5.5/10, which can be rounded up to 6/10. Would I recommend this movie to watch? No. If you watch, would you like it? Not sure!

One of the dumbest movies I've seen, has its good moments and that's all. Actors are ok, just the storyline is ridiculous, if you enjoy seeimg mental illness at play this one's for you.it had potential to be a great movie, but fails because of its ridiculous premise ! Could have been so much better if the characters and story made sense. Don't know why people have given it a good score, but must have watched something different than I did. If you like a romantic movie I guess it's ok, but the story has to make sense I would think. Has a good cast, unfortunately everything else is a miss. Time waster for sure !

25 minutes is as long into this that I lasted. Despite it being a tea time viewing and expecting something light and airy I guess I thought kevin Bacon would add some gravitas? But its likely that his fee took up a good percentage of the B movie budget?
Is really cleanly filmed and the garden scenes are probably the star attraction. The premise of travelling to Mars is pretty ridiculous, and just serves as a hook for sci fi fans, 20 minutes in you will realise that its basically a rom/com, with the usual, cheesy boy meets girl setups. Which is great if thats what you are looking forward to?
Maybe the rest of the 1 hr 34mins runtime rustled up some Philosophical, life affirming moments, but I took my chances and decided to save an hour or so of my life..here on earth!

Initially when I sat down to watch this 2022 movie, I wasn't really getting a spark from the synopsis. It sounded a bit trivial, I suppose. But with "Space Oddity" being a movie that I hadn't already seen, nor actually heard about, of course I opted to watch the movie. And I figured with Kevin Bacon on the cast list, it couldn't be all bad.
Writer Rebecca Banner managed to put together a script and storyline for the movie that genuinely and wholeheartedly entertained me. It was a very compelling and gripping storyline that proved enjoyable from beginning to end. And while the movie turned out rather different than what I had expected, it was a rather beautiful and character-driven storyline.
The acting performances in "Space Oddity" were good. Kyle Allen and Alexandra Shipp, playing the two leading parts were nicely cast for their roles and carried the movie quite well. It was definitely a powerful performance from Kyle Allen in particular. And it was nice to see the likes of Kevin Bacon and Simon Helberg on the cast list as well. I will say that Kevin Bacon really added a lot to the movie with his performance in the role he was given.
I will go as far as saying that "Space Oddity", from director Kyra Sedgwick, is a powerful and emotional-driven story that is well-worth watching. And it is definitely a movie that I will warmly recommend for you to sit down and watch.
My rating of "Space Oddity" lands on a seven out of ten stars.

What do you need to be alive (Despite food , water, oxygen, ...)? Yes , you need Hope/Dream, Odd ? No it is not Odd , it is Real (Jeremiah 29-11 ). It is essential for life,And some of people around you are pro/against your dream/hope (Romans 4-18),This movie tries to show this. Hope/Dream helps you to find your way to reach your goals(Psalm 62-5). Great actors like Kevin Bacon and Kyle Allen in this move attract your feeling by their play, Also great director Kyra Sedwick (side by side with her husband Bacon and Rebecca Banner ) is the the reason which this movie wonderfully/amazingly came out.

It may be slow paced, and pretty obvious story-wise in terms of the final outcome, but it's a truly well put together movie that is thoughtful, heart warming and also endearing.
In all honesty, the cast are the true stars, they have a very limited story to tell but they express everything in a short but sweet way. Also, I'm very impressed with Alexandra Shipp, I don't know too much about her career or resume but she ticks all the right boxes.
Lastly, I think Kyra Sedgwick did a fantastic job directing. It's a movie filled with many emotional intricacies but it was handled with due care and loving attention. You can tell when a movie was handcrafted compared to the "copy-paste" template we all have to endure these days from big budget studios.
Space Oddity is a beautifully crafted movie and well worth a viewing on a relaxing Sunday afternoon.
It gets a low budget 8 out of 10 for me.

I didn't expect this to be so good but this film is really down to earth. It's about a kid called alexander who takes us along on his decision to be the first person to travel to mars. Although you'd think it would be all about travelling to mars and it is that is more the backdrop and premise to this film introducing us to his decision, his life, what he'd be leaving behind and it all just resonated with me. Alexander is very critical of how finite life is due to a tragedy he has experienced which he is grieving and makes him have a very bleak view of life which I can relate to but this film is great in that it shows what life is all about. Family, friends, sports, hobbies and most importantly plants. Plants are a big part of life. Without plants there would be no life so alexander has to figure out how to get them to grow on mars too. It's all very philosophical and normally I'm not into those kind of films, being a sci-fi nerd myself but this film was beautiful, really well made. I loved every moment of it and the ending was excellent too. The moral of the story is to enjoy life and it is not easy to convince me but this film did a really good job at it. It is a story I thought was beautifully told. It was real, didn't feel fake, was emotional at times and I can recommend this film to anyone. My favorite film of the year hands down.
Amazing movie. It makes you think about life and the little things that should make us happy every day, but we forget to pay attention to them. Few films unfold the meaning of life in such a way. The story is good, at the beginning it starts a bit vague but then it unfolds its full potential. My only quibble is that I don't think this film can be described as a genre comedy, leaving that aside I recommend watching it. I really liked the parts where they try to make us think about what we are doing to the environment and what effects it has on nature and ourselves. If everyone who watches this film gets its meaning the world will be a much better place.

Space Oddity
This was a hidden gem of a movie, I don't want to ruin the story so I shan't dwell on that, but the movie explored some very difficult aspects of the pain we suffer as a result of loving someone. It was self-evident that reality of personal abandonment manifests in a multitude of different and often worrying behaviours.
Alex, was extremely clever, he sublimated his pain with anger, recrimination and transference, out of his family he was the most damaged due to his age and immaturity.
The movie made us watch a process, it was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish and deeply effecting. The script was tight the acting solid and pacing excellent, there were some clunky scenes that needing editing out.
Kyle Allen, who played the lead, and the whole movie rested on, really is a very talented actor and I see great things, it really was very compelling.
Whilst I made it all sound miserable it was a very happy life reaffirming story that reminds us life is for the living. I'm surprised at the low marks on here when I am giving it a firm 8 outta 10. As an aside in England we give children a hamster to learn about life and death, Alex clearly never had a hamster lol.

This film started out a little slow, but once it got going it was very entertaining! While it develops into a rom-com with a setup we've seen before, it is done very well. The acting is great, the writing is gripping, and the shots are beautiful.
The thing that sets it really far apart is the overarching theme driving it, which is the Mars trip. It really has nothing to do with actually going to Mars, but instead is driving a well-thought-out discussion about how we can get tired of life on Earth and will look for any possible escape, even if it silly or nonsensical.
These things combine to make this a great movie and one that has two flavors to enjoy. If you're looking for something laid-back, simple, and even a little cheesy, you can watch for the romance and laugh at all the jokes without thinking about the deep themes. If you want a movie that you can talk about for days with depth that is worth appreciating, you can look into topics like escapism and personal value systems. I think there's something for everyone in this film, so it's really just hard to hate in my opinion.
