Production is currently taking place in Vancouver, Canada, for the highly anticipated Yellowjackets season 3, and we can't wait to see the horror series return next year! We've just learned some good news about the upcoming season and it involves a new cast addition.
Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank has reportedly joined the cast of Yellowjackets for its third season. This news comes only a month after learning that Joel McHale (Animal Control) joined the cast. Unfortunately, like McHale's casting, it's unknown who Swank will be playing in the series. All that was revealed about her casting is that she'll be taking on a recurring guest star role. However, Deadline reports that there's a possibility she could be upped to series regular if there is to be a fourth season.
I don't know about you, but I'm a fan of Swank and would love to see more of her in Yellowjackets.

High-concept movies, particularly those based on previous films or novels, often face an uphill battle to surpass their predecessors. The inevitable comparisons and ‘who did it better’ debates can overshadow the new iteration’s merits. However, every so often, a fresh take can breathe new life into a beloved character, defying expectations and captivating audiences anew.
Jeff Bridges, in particular, had a profound vision for a beloved character from the MonsterVerse. The King Kong (1976) actor had a potential sequel, which unfortunately never came to fruition due to the movie’s modest box office performance. Bridges’ vision for the future of the giant ape was quite intriguing and might have become a hit for the genre.

Adam Wingard is done with the MonsterVerse (for now), but he has found a leading lady for his next project. THR reports that Adria Arjona is in final negotiations to star in and executive produce Onslaught for A24, a project described as a “gonzo action horror thriller.“
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it’s said that Arjona will play “a mother who falls back on a particular set of skills in order to protect her loved ones after she runs afoul of a threat that has escaped a secret military base.” In addition to directing Onslaught, Wingard is also co-writing the script with Simon Barrett, who he worked with on You’re Next and The Guest. Production is expected to kick off in New Mexico later this year.

Daisy Ridley, star of the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, is a different kind of vigilante in Zak Hilditch’s upcoming horror-survival-thriller “We Bury the Dead.”
The film, which will have its world premiere shortly and hold a special preview event at Australia’s Adelaide Film Festival in November, unveiled a first look at Ridley in the role of a desperate woman who joins a body retrieval unit, hoping to find her husband alive after a disastrous military experiment destroys the population of Tasmania. As she sifts through the corpses, she discovers that many are not quite dead.
Ridley’s character looks haggard as she journeys to the south of Tasmania and is forced to make peace with her own unfinished business in the face of futility.

To close out the week, Warner Bros. and Legendary have dated a pair of upcoming releases: an untitled Denis Villeneuve Event Film and the next installment in the MonsterVerse series, a.k.a. Godzilla x Kong 3.
First up, the untitled Denis Villeneuve Event Film has been dated for December 18, 2026.
While we were previously under the assumption that Villeneuve was developing a drama film based on the nonfiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario as his next film, both The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline now believe that he's shifted gears back to the sandy dunes of Arrakis and that the December date is actually being reserved for Dune: Part Three (rumored title Dune: Messiah), which will be his next project.
However, before they can formally announce the film and its now-booked release date, Villeneuve will have to lock the script, which, as far as we know, is close to finished as he...

With Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sitting pretty as the highest-grossing movie in the MonsterVerse, it’s no surprise that another installment is on the way. Today, Warner Bros. announced the official release date for the next MonsterVerse movie, which will be smashing into theaters on March 26, 2027.
After helming Godzilla v Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Adam Wingard was expected to return for more. The studio was keen to have him back, but scheduling issues meant that he had to step down. It was announced earlier this month that Grant Sputore, the director of Hilary Swank’s sci-fi thriller I Am Mother, would be replacing him. The studio had previously tapped Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) to write the script for the Godzilla x Kong sequel.

A sixth installment in Legendary’s 10-years-strong Monsterverse is in the works, and Warner Bros. has provided us with a release date this afternoon: March 26, 2027. Yes, 2027.
The wait is long. But have no fear, as the television series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” has been renewed for a second season, so that will likely come along a bit earlier to tide us over.
Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) will direct the upcoming sixth movie, with Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) on board to write the screenplay.
Beginning with the Godzilla film in 2014 and continuing through 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, and most recently the record-breaking Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the Monsterverse has accumulated over $2B at the global box office and expanded into the highly successful event series, Legendary’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for...

There's a new king in town. It may have happened just as the movie is arriving on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD, but "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" has passed a majorly impressive box office milestone. Two and a half months after director Adam Wingard's follow-up to 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" hit theaters, it has officially passed 2017's "Kong: Skull Island" to become the highest-grossing movie in the MonsterVerse franchise.
According to Deadline, "Godzilla x Kong" has now amassed $570 million worldwide, taking it just past the $568.6 million total of "Skull Island." Wingard's second MonsterVerse film has earned $196.3 million domestically to go with $373.7 million internationally. The biggest difference is that "Skull Island" made a whopping $400 million of its total overseas in its day. The only film in the franchise to make more than "GxK" domestically was 2014's "Godzilla" ($200 million domestically/$529 million worldwide) directed by Gareth Edwards. That film kicked...

Following the announcement of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard's shock exit from the MonsterVerse last month, Legendary has found itself a new director to helm the sequel to their latest box-office behemoth. As reported by THR, I Am Mother director Grant Sputore has been tapped to steer the Kaiju franchise's next Titan team-up, which is being written by Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse scribe Dave Callaham.
Precious little is known about the future instalment in Legendary's MonsterVerse series, though it is being described as a direct continuation of the franchise, built around Godzilla, Kong, and various other Titans. Before Wingard's departure from the project, the director had teased that a third Godzilla x Kong collab would likely see our beloved irradiated lizard take centre stage, with the tantalising prospect of an appearance from legendary Kaiju Destoroyah having...

We recently got confirmation that a follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is officially in the works, with writer Dave Callaham enlisted to pen the script for the untitled movie.
There was no mention of a potential director at the time, but we'd later learn that Adam Wingard, who helmed The New Empire and previous MonsterVerse movie Godzilla vs. Kong, would no longer direct the project after initially being attached to return. His departure was described as "amicable and stemming from timing issues," with the door remaining "open for a future return."
Now, THR (via SFFGazette.com) the next instalment in the popular franchise has enlisted a new director, with Grant Sputore set to take the helm.
Sputore doesn't have much experience, having come from the world of commercials, but he does have one feature under his belt: The 2019 sci-fi movie I Am Mother starring Hilary Swank.

I Am Mother director Grant Sputore is the filmmaker charged with the next Godzilla x Kong film, as Adam Wingard opts to make Onslaught instead.

Adam Wingard obliterated the kaiju-sized box office earlier this year with "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," the follow-up film to his moderate hit, "Godzilla vs. Kong." Wingard, a director who cut his teeth in the horror genre, was a fresh and exciting new voice to take over everyone's favorite monstrous, radioactive lizard and gigantic gorilla antiheroes. A few weeks back, Wingard announced that he would not be returning for whatever the next installment of Warner Bros. and Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise would bring, sending the studio on a hunt for their next director. It's a difficult task, to be sure, as Wingard brought some serious silliness to the franchise, opting for films that feel like spending millions of dollars to bring a playfully imaginative game of clashing titans to life.

When Adam Wingard said he would not return for the follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: New Empire, fans of Legendary‘s latest clash of the titans fell into despair. Wingard brought something special to Godzilla and Kong’s latest city-destroying brawl, and we hoped he’d remain a part of the franchise. Thankfully, Grant Sputore, the director of Hilary Swank’s sci-fi thriller I Am Mother, is stepping up to the plate.
The follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: New Empire should continue the story from Wingard’s latest blockbuster, focusing on Kong and Godzilla’s tag team antics alongside several Titans waiting in the wings. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse writer Dave Callaham will pen the script.
While Sputore is in, Wingard is moving on to direct Onslaught for A24. Wingard directed 2022’s Godzilla vs. Kong and this year’s Godzilla x Kong: New Empire.

These days Netflix’s top is taken over by Jennifer Lopez’s sci-fi flick that follows a data analyst who is sent to space to stop a renegade robot. Although it got such a strong viewership, it was panned by critics and received a shameful 17% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Luckily, there are a number of better titles exploring the topics of robots and science as a whole. Here are 4 worth-watching sci-fi movies, rated 85% or higher on Rt.

Maya Rudolph is everyone’s mother now, and she knows it. So, during her monologue on “Saturday Night Live” this week, she happily claimed her crown — with a custom song that had everyone, including the cast, gagged.
After skipping a newsy cold open in favor of honoring the cast members’ mothers, Rudolph hit the stage and expressed her excitement at being the host for the Mother’s Day weekend episode, and her love of being a mother to four kids herself (that she knows of).
But she was quickly interrupted by Bowen Yang and Sarah Sherman, who informed Rudolph that she’s not just a mother, but she is Mother. Suddenly, Kenan Thompson took the stage in blinged out glasses and a wig to turn 30 Rock into “Club Maya.”
When the camera panned back to Rudolph, she was in a reflective jumpsuit and launched into a club remix called “I Am Mother.

Gareth Edwards’ battle between mankind and our robot overlords is being touted as a zeitgeist-defining masterpiece – hopefully the promo is under human control
Is Gareth Edwards’ The Creator primed to enter the pantheon of great sci-fi movies? Or should we be wary of all the hype? Because – like our future machine overlords – the hype is coming.
Ahead of any official reviews of the AI-centric piece, studio 20th Century has allowed select critics to tweet their opinions, and the consensus seems to be that this could be the discerning sci-fi fan’s movie of the year. To reach that level for me, Edwards would have to deliver a film on a par with Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 (2009), Alex Garland’s Ex-Machina (2014) or Grant Sputore’s I Am Mother (2019). These films were full of vim and verve and imagined future worlds so rich and detailed that you can imagine never-ending sequels...

The New Zealand government said on Tuesday that the country’s generous screen production incentives systems are to be continued.
The decision follows a New Zealand government review of the local and international production incentives and the post-production and visual effects schemes that began in late 2022.
They also follow expansion announced earlier this month of the rebate schemes in Australia. The two neighbors compete for international or ‘runaway’ productions on criteria including: locations, English-language skills, studio space, post-production and digital effects facilities, as well as cash rebates.
The screen sector contributes more than Nz$3.5 billion ($2.12 billion) to the New Zealand economy each year and directly employs over 13,900 people. The sector also has indirect benefits for other industries such as hospitality, construction and tourism, the government said.
The renewal of the New Zealand Screen Production Grant (Nzspg) system come with a handful of tweaks. One of these is to the scheme’s name.

The trailer for Gareth Edwards’ new film shows humanity being outsmarted by AI – and is released just as our overlords-to-be are rearing their terrifying heads
It’s been a while since we had a truly great movie about devious, dystopian AIs priming themselves to take over the world, in which the key choices made by mere humans will decide whether we end up as just an organic footnote in histories written by our machine conquerors. Alex Garland’s Ex-Machina (2014) springs to mind, while 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron was a fun comic book romp, if lacking the spiky gravitas and sly intellectual thrust of Garland’s debut. Grant Sputore’s I Am Mother explored similar territory in 2019 with a rather more claustrophobic, yet devastatingly incisive touch. Now there’s Gareth Edwards’ The Creator, the first trailer for which debuted this week, arriving just as very real concerns about the ability...

Netflix has been a godsend for movie lovers, as the entertainment empire completely changed the cinematic landscape and forced studios to scramble toward the front lines in the streaming wars. Thanks to Netflix proving the value of streaming, films have become more accessible than ever. Of course, seeing moves in the theater should always be the preferred method of viewing, but for a multitude of reasons (including the continuing pandemic), some movie lovers may not be able to make it to the big screen.
But Netflix's influence hasn't only impacted theaters, it's also had a drastic impact on physical media releases once films finish their theatrical runs. Unfortunately, this has resulted in some streamers outright refusing to release their original projects on DVD or Blu-ray, which also means a lack of additional content like blooper reels, deleted scenes, and commentary tracks. Given the high-caliber quality of many Netflix originals, plenty...

Exclusive: One notable title up for sale we’re hearing about at the European Film Market is Timothy Scott Bogart’s pop Romeo & Juliet musical, Verona starring Clara Rugaard, Jamie Ward, Rebel Wilson, Rupert Everett, Jason Isaacs and Derek Jacobi.
Verona will be the first film in a original pop musical trilogy based around the real-life 1301 story that inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. A wide theatrical releaser this Christmas is being planned.
Bogart tells us, “We’ve set out to tell the greatest love story of all time, set to the musical pulse of our time. But Shakespeare only told part of that remarkable tale whose events changed the course of history!”
Voltage is handling international sales on Verona.
Bogart recently directed the 1970s-1980s set feature Spinning Gold about his record label exec father Neil Bogart’s rise and fall with Casablanca Records. That pic is coming out on March 31 in theaters.

Set in German-occupied Warsaw during WWII, Rodrigo Cortés’ “Love Gets a Room” is a story of perseverance, resilience and sacrifice. The film, which follows a band of Jewish actors contemplating escape while staging the Jerzy Jurandot-penned play of the same name, will world premiere out of competition at Spain’s Seville European Film Festival, which opens Nov. 5.
“Love Gets a Room” stars several rising talents, including Danish actress Clara Rugaard (“I Am Mother)” and Verona-born Valentina Bellè. The film is also the latest in the burgeoning career of writer-director Cortés, who broke out at Sundance directing Ryan Reynolds in “Buried” (2010), and followed up with Robert DeNiro and Sigourney Weaver in “Red Lights” (2012). Adrián Guerra, his longtime producer, once more produces.
The film is produced and financed by Guerra’s Nostromo Pictures in Spain, with Lionsgate International handling international rights and CAA representing U.S. rights. Top Spanish independent A Contracorriente Films...

Veteran Australian director Rolf De Heer (“Ten Canoes”) is shooting a new film titled “The Mountain,” for which Italy’s Fandango Sales is launching sales at the online AFM.
“The Mountain” (pictured above in a first-look image) tells the story of a central character named BlackWoman, who is abandoned in a cage in the middle of the desert. Following her escape from the cage, “she walks through pestilence and persecution, from desert to mountain to city, to find … more captivity,” reads the film’s synopsis.
“BlackWoman walks and walks, past ruins and dunes until she finds boots, and skeletons and skulls, a wrecked world where few survive and your newly gained boots can get stolen at the point of a gun.”
“Those responsible are reluctant to release their privilege, and BlackWoman, escaping once more, must find solace in her beginnings,” it adds. The film stars Mwajemi Hussein, Deepthi Sharma, and Darsan Sharma.
