The What We Do in the Shadows franchise has been so durable that a fan might be forgiven for thinking its shows may be just as immortal as its characters. From the mockumentary feature film to its first spin-off, Wellington Paranormal, to the FX series that also uses the movie’s title, we’ve enjoyed dozens of hours’ worth of comedy in this world. Given the facts of undead life for its mostly vampire cast, less discerning creators could have potentially kept it in (bat) flight for dozens more. But said creators are discerning, and whether we’re ready or not, the sixth season will be the last. Prime Video has announced that the Australian Original The Office will premiere on October 18. The comedy series is the thirteenth version of the global hit juggernaut franchise and has the first-ever female lead in the iconic role, comedian and actor Felicity Ward who plays Hannah Howard, Managing Director of Flinley Craddick.

All eight episodes of The Office Australia will be available on October 18 exclusively on Prime Video in 240 countries and territories worldwide (excluding the U.S.) in the Prime membership.

Though Monty Python’s Flying Circus and some segments of their various movies would be entertaining to kids and adults alike, Time Bandits was pitched at a younger audience and, according to an essay by Bruce Eder at Criterion.com, became “the most critically well-received children’s film in nearly two decades.”

What We Do In The Shadows began life as a feature film in 2014, written and directed by Flight Of The Concords star Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The latter of those two has gone on to direct Jojo Rabbit and has become a creative force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directing Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, infusing the franchise with his signature humorous approach (even if he took the job to keep food on the table.)

What We Do In The Shadows inspired two television series. The first was Wellington Paranormal, which began in 2016 and followed police officers Minogue and O’Leary, played by Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary respectively, who were minor characters in the film. It ran for four seasons from 2018 to 2022.

“Wellington Paranormal,” the series spinoff from 2014 breakout hit film “What We Do In the Shadows,” is launching an audio companion piece. It is produced by Frank Podcasts, a new New Zealand-based podcast network, headed by Mike Minogue and Tim Batt.

The podcast will feature actors, writers, directors and more, delving into the making of the Jemaine Clement produced and Taika Waititi executive produced TV series, “Wellington Paranormal.”

The show is hosted by Minogue (who played Officer Minogue in the series) and Karen O’Leary (Officer O’Leary), with Maaka Pohatu (Sarge) and Tom Sainsbury (Officer Parker) as recurring guests.

“Bad Behaviour” is a family affair in more ways than one. It centers on mother Lucy and daughter Dylan, both of whom work in the entertainment industry. Alice Englert (“Ginger & Rosa”), who wrote, directed, and stars as Dylan, would know a little something about that — she’s Jane Campion’s daughter. The “Power of the Dog” auteur even makes a cameo in the film.

Though “Bad Behaviour” is playfully meta, it’s not needlessly self-referential. Englert separates herself as a filmmaker with this screwy tale of modern narcissism (although she and her mother do both have a thing for guru characters). “Bad Behaviour” is bright and lively (not Campion’s wheelhouse) but, like its characters, it’s also aimless.

Englert clearly wants to say something meaningful about mothers, daughters, acting, female celebrity, social-media culture, spirituality, and mental health, but she’s not yet deft enough to tackle all of these things at once.

CBS’ “Big Brother” scored a whopping 0.81 rating in the advertiser-coveted audience demographic Wednesday night, leading all of primetime. Though the episode didn’t post the biggest overall audience of the night, it was still far and away the highest-rated.

Still, in raw viewership, it was no match for NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” which attracted 5.4 million total viewers to become Wednesday night’s most-watched program. Unsurprisingly, NBC was the most-watched overall network on the night.

CBS' all-reality Wednesday got underway in winning fashion.

Big Brother Season 24 got underway with 3.7 million total viewers and a 0.8 rating in the demo, easily winning the night for CBS.

Granted, the series was down a little vs. last summer, but it remains one of the network's strongest performers.

If the show can hold at these levels, it will remain a strong option for CBS.

That's a solid number for the summer, and if it can hold at these levels, it should be back on the schedule next summer.

The spinoff of the MTV counterpart also improved upon Love Island's last summer bow.

Both shows powered CBS to a night on par with Wednesdays in-season.

Over on The CW, Mysteries Decoded opened its new season with 550,000 viewers and a 0.0 rating in the demo.

The inaugural network broadcast of The Challenge: USA was a boon to CBS on Wednesday in primetime. The spinoff of the successful MTV franchise, together with the 24th season of Big Brother, helped CBS to win the night overall with 2.95 million viewers.

According to Live+Same Day ratings from Nielsen, the network premiere of The Challenge: USA — which featured past players from Survivor, Big Brother, Love Island and The Amazing Race — reached 2.3 million viewers. That’s up 233 from last year’s cable premiere of the franchise and up 18 from last summer’s broadcast season premiere of Love Island on July 7.

In the latest TV ratings, CBS’ Big Brother opened Season 24 with 3.7 million total viewers and a 0.8 demo rating, down 12 and 27 percent from last summer’s premiere but still leading Wednesday on both counts. (Read recap.)

Leading out of Bb, The Challenge: USA debuted to 2.2 mil and a 0.4, up 18 percent in audience from Love Island‘s year-ago season opener on CBS and up 233 percent from The Challenge‘s comparable MTV premiere last summer.

The CW is the final network — after Fox, ABC, NBC, and CBS — to announce its premiere dates for Fall 2022, and they’re what we expected: kicking off in the first weeks of October, for the most part. It all begins with DC’s Stargirl returning for its third season on August 31, followed by the first October premieres with Family Law and Coroner. Walker returns for its third season, along with the debut of its prequel, Walker Independence, on Thursday, October 6. The other fall prequel premiere is The Winchesters‘ on Tuesday, October 11, leading into Tom Welling back on The CW with Professionals. With its list of new releases for July 2022, HBO Max is stepping up its TV game. Not that any entity associated with “It’s Not TV, It’s HBO” would ever not bring the televised goods, but the small screen is of particular consequence this month.

The middle of July is jam-packed with TV goodies like docuseries The Anarchists (July 10), rescued animated project Tuca & Bertie season 3 (July 11), and the latest Nathan Fielder creation The Rehearsal (July 15). The real heavy hitter arrives later on though. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin premieres on July 28 and will introduce the next generation of the Pll franchise. It doesn’t have a release date yet but July will also host season 3 of the delightful Harley Quinn at some point.

HBO Max’s movie offerings aren’t as deep this month. The Bob’s Burgers Movie (July 12) and We Met In Virtual Reality (July 27) are really the only originals of note.

In the latest TV show ratings, The Flash‘s Season 8 finale drew 570,000 total viewers and a 0.1 rating, dropping a few eyeballs week-to-week while steady in the demo.

TVLine readers gave the almost-a-series-finale an average grade of “B,” while the season as a whole merited a “C+”; read post mortem.

Production is underway in the lush and remote northern tip of New Zealand on “Far North,” a premium drama series for Sundance Now.

The fact-based series stars local acting legend, Temuera Morrison and award-winning actress, Robyn Malcolm (“Top of the Lake”) as an everyday couple who foil an international crime ring’s largest ever deal in the Pacific.

The series was researched and created and is being directed by David White. The screenplay was written by White, Suli Moa and Mingjian Cui.

Filming will take 14 weeks in total, with seven of those on location in Ahipara, where the real events took place. The completed show will be delivered as six one-hour episodes, with All3 Media International handling rights sales outside of the producer territories.

The CW has finalized its summer plans. The broadcast network today set August premiere dates for the new Australian dramedy Bump and historical drama Leonardo, along with returning competition series Killer Camp and sophomore drama Devils.

The half-hour Bump will make its U.S. debut with back-to-back episodes starting at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 11.

The Aidan Turner-Freddie Highmore series Leonardo bows from 8-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, followed by the Season 2 premiere of Devils at 9. The latter originally was set to launch on June 30.

Season 3 of the satirical British horror whodunit competition Killer Camp will attack at 8 p.m. Friday, August 5.

Here is the CW’s summer premieres schedule, including the previously announced returns of In the Dark, Wellington Paranormal, Mysteries Decoded and Roswell, New Mexico:

The CW announced an additional summer slate of programming, which includes new scripted series “Bump” and “Leonardo,” debuting Aug. 11 and Aug. 16, respectively, at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on the channel. The network also announced the return of “Devils,” set for Aug. 16 at 9 p.m., and “Killer Camp” on Aug. 5 at 8 p.m.

“Bump,” an Australian comedy series, will make its U.S. debut with back-to-back episodes. The show follows 17-year-old over-achiever Olympia (Nathalie Morris), who is shocked to discover she’s in labor after being rushed to the hospital with severe pains. Suddenly, her 10-year-plan with her boyfriend Lachie (Peter Thurnwald) and best friend Reema (Safia Arain) comes crashing down, especially given that the baby’s father is actually Santi’s (Carlos Sanson Jr.), the son of her mother’s work crush.
