I watched this movie with my teen daughter. We watch about a dozen Christmas movies every year, and this one was bad enough to finally write a review. The premise was good so we kept watching with hope that it would get better. It didn't.
There were a number of plot gaps, script or Director shortcuts, and poor production in my opinion. This movie had such potential, but neither the Canadian name A Christmas Hero or international name Firehouse Christmas really made sense to the story.
The movie was predictable and had a decent cast, but the Director, writers and production crew had the movie bouncing all over the place and it almost seemed like the actors were having a hard time following the story-line themselves. Had they not cut so many corners in the script, this movie could have easily been a 7.5. Instead its barely a 5, and definitely a never watch again.

I Have Reviewed OVER 500 "Christmas Films and Specials". Please BEWARE Of films and specials with just one review! For instance When "It's a POSITIVE" chances are that the reviewer was involved with the production. "If its Negative" then they may have a grudge against the film for whatever reason. I am fare about these films.
A woman's relationship with a former Olympian is tested during the holiday season when her beau's ex attempts to feign a rekindled romance with him in order to fuel the sales of her relationship-advice book.
It was hard for me to watch this film because I kept thinking Marcus Rosner looks like one of Donald Trumps sons or Adam Scott. The film however suffers because the writing is very inconsistent. Characters are not consistent and at times you are left scratching your head.

What a horrible Christmas movie. In the end all the characters realized they've been massive arseholes. But the viewers had to suffer through all their awfulness for two hours to get there. This is a four alarm alert - stay away, stay far away from this movie. Minus a further half star for gratuitous Neil Lane and Kay Jewelers product placement. HORRIBLE!
I do love a Christmas movie - full of cheese! However this one was just horrid. They were a horrible bunch of people. The grandfather was foul. The dad didn't have any balls to stand up and say 'she's my kid, sod off!' The mother was HORRID! Who would refuse to give their daughter a Christmas present on Christmas morning from her dad??

It's the Christmas time, the television channels are filled with the Christmas contents. There are plenty of Christmas themed films, so it's hard to choose one, particularly the good one. Because they are first time airing, so there's no data about which one's good and which isn't. I randomly picked this one, but I have already seen half a dozen of titles in the current season. Every year, it's impossible to avoid them, so I go for it. But almost all of them are similar with slightly different to each other. That's what I expected in this as well.
So this film was focused on a gift shop man with a young daughter who is going through a divorce is looking to take the next step with his new girlfriend who is a firefighter. When his ex wanted him to pose as they are back together, just to increase the sales of her newly published book, it begins to hurt his girlfriend. Besides, all this complication, his daughter is the most affected. How everything will be solved once for all is brings the end to the tale.
Actually, this is not a bad film along those I have seen in the last couple of weeks. It was a simple story, the characters as well, but neatly expanded plot which is obviously predictable. The only thing I did not like was the lead actor, the remaining all were good. I'm not doubting his performance, which was actually fine, but he did not fit in with the others, especially for my eyes. So I won't expect similar distraction from you. The little girl Sadie, looked like some kind of related to Jeff Daniels, but I don't know. There's nothing big in the film and don't expect one. It is an enjoyable, silly, simple Christmas film with the family members.

...but it's down there. It follows the usual formula: guy/girl meets girl/guy, one of them has an attachment to someone else who won't let the other one go, overbearing relative/friend, relative/friend encourages the girl/guy to go after their true love, there's a big misunderstanding and guy/girl storms off from girl/guy, then they finally come together and get engaged after a ridiculously short amount of time. That's ok, but it's how that whole thing is done that matters. In this case, it was a dud. The father/grandfather is far too overbearing and neither his daughter or his ex-son-in-law will stand up to him. The guy (ex-son-in-law who meets firefighter woman) not only lets his father-in-law walk all over him, but also his ex. The Evil Ex uses the kid as a lever to get him to do what she wants. Will he ever push back? Meanwhile, the kid suffers from Mom's manipulations and Grandpa's drill sergeant like orders, and seeks out the only person who can care about her without paying a consequence: the firefighter woman. Will the ex and the grandpa find their hearts and everyone live happily ever after? Gee, I really don't know!
There are some serious problems:
Unless you HAVE to watch every Christmas romance movie, give this one a pass and go watch Killer Klowns From Outer Space. The acting is better and at least you can get some real laughs.
There are some serious problems:
- That's not the standard protocol for how firefighters go in to rescue people.
- It's ridiculous to think that that's how chimneys are constructed, especially in luxury houses.
- The product placement of the engagement ring, being sure to highlight and linger on the open ring box so the camera can center on the brand name several times, is tacky, tacky, tacky and cheapens the movie.

So many others here have mentioned the worst things about this movie but didn't go into any depth about Tom getting stuck in a chimney that COULD HOLD THREE PEOPLE WITHOUT GETTING STUCK!!!! It's a silly thing but this is the dumbest part of the whole movie!

3 December 2016. This new Christmas holiday family movie presents a nice breakthrough in family themed movies while presenting it in less than stellar manner. A chimney rescue doesn't have nearly the same credibility as perhaps Backdraft (1991). A helpful movie point is that the fire crew seen in the movie is a rescue crew similar to a paramedic team rather than a crew to actually fight fires. They actually get to have a large fire truck so some reason. I guess the producer couldn't get an Emergency television series EMT truck. The movie sort of starts by dropping the audience into of the movie at a third of the way through the movie script which leaves the audience a bit lacking in being able to identify with the characters immediately. While most the movie is pretty much standard fare, how the movie transitions after the two-thirds of the way through presents a rather novel and enlightening change in how all the characters eventually relate to each other. This enjoyable and satisfying, fun movie has the sort of idealistic snobbery of The Cutting Edge (1992) along with developing the relational themes that were begun in 3 Holiday Tails (A Golden Christmas 2)(2011).
Weak characters, profoundly dumb and weaker Tom. Overacting, unrealistic and terrible script.
Just a flop however you see it.
What a pity, as there could have been a decent and happy Christmas story. This was just dumb and silly. Directors should head for the nearest cliff....

As the movie wore on, it became more and more silly and unbelievable. There are better ways to spend 2 hours. Too bad because some of the actors are good.

This movie may have firefighters in it but it's not hot. There's a hot girl but every thing else sucks! You need some water for that burn! 💦🔥

If you're looking for a nice Christmas movie to watch this year, definitely SKIP this one. Not worth your time.
This is one of the worst movies I've watched. Bad acting by everyone! How did they get the job...blech! From the old man who owns a car lot to the the daughter who writes a book and the grand daughter who over acts plus the firefighter girlfriend & the boyfriend - where did they find these people? Maybe they are real actors but for real low-budget films.
There are much better Christmas movies I've watched & id rather re-watch.
So, if you have time to watch other movies, do so because this one is just a waste, I'm sorry to say.

Believe it or not it actually started out pretty good. But then it just deteriorated into one of the worst Christmas movies I've ever seen.
As we get to know the characters, we see the rotten ex, the evil-to-the-core ex father in law, the conflicted daughter and the love interests. I thought it was pretty sweet in the beginning because it didn't really follow the standard romcom formula and construct.
There was actually a fire rescue scene that was pretty realistic and harrowing to say the least but it wasn't long after, this movie started to take a nosedive. It's difficult to describe the silliness but suffice it to say it ruined it.
Production values were fairly good, but a lot of the acting was terrible. Why can't someone spend a little money on these movies. Oh well, 2 hours of my life down the drain.

The writing, plot and dialogue in this film are really poor. I've seen some of the actors In other films, so I know that Jaeda Lily Miller, for example, can act but here she was given nothing to work with. All the characters are two dimensional and they and the plot seem to hang on the premise that if the actors can cry reasonably believably then the audience will engage with the writing and ignore the very obvious shortcomings. One of the only authentic and interesting features in the film is the toy shop. It looked like a real location and if it wasn't, then the set dresser should get an award. My feeling is though that in line with the general cheapness of the film, it was the budget that dictated that they used a real shop.
Ironically the product placement at the end of the film probably backfired on the jewellers, someone should have read the script before deciding to associate their engagement rings with this Christmas Turkey.
