The guys who run the Kickstarter campaign for Blood Machines: Turbo Killer 2 are not fooling around: with more than double the target amount netted and less than 24 hours remaining on the counter, they still introduce new rewards! One of those new extras is a bigger version of the hardcover artbook which was one of the rewards already, with plenty more pages added. So Carpenter Brut and Seth Ickerman are targeting my weak spots now, are they? Don't tell me action figures and an even sexier poster are next... oh wait, they are. Blood Machines is a follow-up slash sequel slash embellishment to the magnificent Turbo Killer videoclip released last year, and in it, a couple of space bounty hunters pursue what seems to...

If you - like me - are among those who were wildly impressed by French duo Seth Ickerman's retro-futurist music video Turbo Killer and have been eagerly awaiting their reunion with musical act Carpenter Brut for their expanded sequel, Blood Machines, well ... things just got a whole lot more interesting. We wrote about the Blood Machines Kickstarter campaign - set up to raise the funds to go push the length of the sequel up to thirty minutes while also greatly increasing the scope of things - a couple weeks back and the good news comes first with word that they have already exceeded their goal with that. And what does that mean? It means we're getting more ... more may mean a further expansion...

This is exactly what we all need on a Friday: 4 minutes of awesome.
Seth Ickerman, the name of the French director duo Raphaël Hernandez and Savitri Joly-Gonfard, first teamed up with musician Carpenter Brut last year when they directed the music video Turbo Killer. Or perhaps the music is a companion to the 4 minute short. I'm not sure how that all came together but it really is the best 4 minutes of anything I've seen in months.
There are spaceships, flying cars, upside down crosses, aliens, alien hunters and the entire thing looks and sounds like it was made in the mid 80s. The influences are many and some more obvious than others but it all makes for a hugely entertaining bit of video.

[With the Blood Machines Kickstarter campaign closing in on its goal the Seth Ickerman team have just released a fantastic new poster for the project. That's it to the left.] It was just back in February that we shared the dazzling retro futurist music video for French electronic musician Carpenter Brut's Turbo Killer labeling it at the time a piece of eye candy of the highest order. A collaboration between Carpenter Brut and French directing duo Seth Ickerman, that Turbo Killer video was a marvel of low budget filmmaking - an enormous testament to how bid ideas and even bigger talent can overwhelm limited resources to create something magnificent. Seriously: If you haven't seen it already then click on that link above and watch it...

It was back at the end of February that we posted the amazing trailer for French electronic act Carpenter Brut's latest single Turbo Killer from the super talented directorial duo Seth Ickerman. If you've not seen that video yet you can find that original post here - and you really should - and if you have, well, now's your chance to see a bit of how they did it. The Ickermen are pretty much flat out geniuses when it comes to wringing maximum effect out of minimum dollars (or Euro) and they have just posted a nearly five minute long behind the scenes video from the making of Turbo Killer to give a little peek behind the curtain. It's well worthwhile. Check it out below....

The title was about the best way I could describe whatever This is. If I had an infinite amount of descriptors to really break it down I would say it's like Grindhouse without the gore and sci-fi that utilizes a classic muscle car chase scene. That really doesn't roll off the tongue so I went with what I had above.
Here's what doesn't need explaining. This is a music video directed by Seth Ickerman, and the song is "Turbo Killer" by Carpenter Brut! Enjoy!
