Lapachhapi is a film which is a milestone in Marathi industry in the yet unexplored horror genre. The screenplay is consistent and engaging, while the background music is pitch perfect. Pooja Sawant delivers her career best, while Usha Naik delivers a stellar performance. The climax could've been more effective, but nonetheless, the film is a masterpiece in itself.

A great direction. Liked the message what director wants to give that to stop killing girl child at a roots level. This is also one of good picturization in Marathi horror movies. Worth watching.
I watched this after watching news of "CHHORI". I have seen some visuals of this movie on insta reel and i have seen chhori's some visuals. I thought both are same and yeah it is true. Chhori is remake of this movie. I don't watch copy that's why i watched Lapachhapi today. Believe me.. this is one the best Horror movie of indian cinema. Because of langauge, people take advantage and make remake of originals. I don't like when some production house give rights to another PH. They can just give hindi dubbing rights to another production instead of giving script.

Lapacchapi (2017) :
Brief Review -
A Terrific Thriller deals with Cliche topic but sets some Technical Achievements in Marathi Cinema. I skipped this film when released because of some other releases and then naturally forgot it. Recently the news of its Hindi Remake brought my interest back, so that i can compare both the films (habit my friends, original must be seen to judge the remake). Skipping this film was a mistake and there's no shame to accept it because i have wasted lot of my time on many craps made in Marathi cinema. Lapachhapi deals with a stereotypical topic which has been attempted many times from old days to modern cinema. The additional factors here are, the horror touch and telling the story in thriller mode. Although the topic is cliche, the importance of it is still relevant. A subject of Child feticide is relavent not only to Marathi Audience but to Pan India audience. The film tells a story of a pregnant woman who arrives in unknown village with her husband. Next, the conspiracy and some horrible facts from past takes this journey forward. What i like the most about Lapachhapi is overall structure of the film. I haven't seen any marathi film recently (in last 3 years i mean) with such a technical brilliance and terrifying visuals. The background score gives jitters but more importantly it is used at correct times. I remember so many films being unnecessarily loud and uselessly hectic and surprisingly Lapachhapi wasn't the one. Cinematography is excellent i must say. Couple of scenes startled me which hasn't happened to me in long time, i mean how? That's a great deal done by Technical team and that's what i called Technical achivements in Marathi Cinema. Another good thing about Lapachhapi is the way it unfolded the plot with that horror stuff and linked it to real life leaving a social Message. I was a fan of Pooja Sawant's beautiful looks from 'Kshanbhar Vishranti' and Colourful 'Dagdi Chaal' but in this film I noticed how good actor she can be. Usha Naik doesn't need any introduction or reference, i remember her act from Classic 'Ek Haiarachi Note' and in Lapachhapi she proved her acting metal again. Those terrible eyes of her, oh god. Rest of the cast is supportive with thier small roles. I didn't know Vishal Furia's name before but now i might remember him for attempting an unattended genre in Marathi Cinema. I don't recall any Marathi Horror film being so good (i didn't expect it on this level) which gave full satisfaction of a certain one time watchable flick. Lapachhapi could have been better compared to some other cinema but for Marathi Cinema it is a well made draft. This film deserves to be remade not only in Hindi but also in some other industries and i hope higher budget would take it on next level. Lapachhapi is definitely recommeded considering the low rate of good films Marathi Cinema has delivered in last decade and i am looking forward to its Hindi remake.

Honestly, I did not know anything about this movie. My dear friend Jimmy Cage recommended this title on his YouTube channel. I trust his feedback and as I am fluent in Marathi, decided to watch this movie.
I was not disappointed at all and frankly, I enjoyed the movie. Every element and prop in the movie contributed to the horror element, right from the ventilation vent to the creaky cot to the radio set to the sugar cane fields itself. The director has co-opted each element so beautifully in the narrative that nothing appears out of place.
The story starts with a young couple that is about to have a baby running away from loan sharks in Mumbai to a remote village. The young mans ex colleague who is also the driver of the car they hire recommends his remote village as a safe place to hide. The couple reaches the village only to find a dilapidated house in the middle of a sugarcane field as their hiding spot. The drivers wife builds a strong bond with the lady and provides the maternal comfort that the lady needs at such a crucial juncture.
However, when the lady begins seeing things and characters that are not from this world ... she senses a great danger to not just herself but her unborn kid. The struggle of the mother to protect both forms the crux of the movie. Saying anything more about the movie or the plot would damage the fun element. Please see it for yourself. Another masterpiece from a language other than Hindi. Must watch

This movie offers all the requisites of horror genre (no vulgarity), usha Naik is convincing and good casting for horror film, Pooja sawant is daring and gorgeous, BGM is good. Movie is so powerful in conveying it's message and exposing the stupidity of old horrifying traditions in our country.. this movie must reach to maximum people..

No complaints at all. Superb movie with good pace and a good message. No dull or unnecessary scene. Regret that I couldn't watch it in theatre.

The movie is good with a social message. But there are places where it seems to be kind of dragged. It becomes very slow. Usha Naik was brilliant (infact felt she was the best actress in this movie).
I guess regional movies are too underrated like this gem. This movie is lit af. The concept the storyline the acting each and everything is great. Worth watching.

Recently regional films have been making there mark in the Indian Film Industry & this movie is a very good example of it.
A very good script with a strong social message, good direction & suspenseful screenplay with a few chilling scenes will keep you hooked throughout the movie.
Kudos to the director & team for creating this Marathi masterpiece. A must watch for everyone.
It's scaryness is strong as like its msg and screenplay also makes our mind Blows bcoz of that we aren't understand the story Until End of It!

It's a good attempt but having watched tonnes of cinema, story wise this didn't shock me or anything. If you've watched weird cult movies like Rosemary's baby, Midsommar and The Wicker Man then you'll be able to make out the similarities instantly as this is very much inspired from the three movies I mentioned.
However it is a well made film and has good performances, especially that of the elder lady. She makes it gripping mostly with her impeccable dialogue delivery and acting in general. Pooja Sawant too has acted well.

I have no idea why this movie has got so much high rating. Makes me suspect all these high rating reviews.
Director Vishal Furia is also the story writer for this movie. This story had so much more potential than the weak direction afforded for it.
From the very beginning, there are very obvious mistakes that are jarring and disrupt viewer immersion into the story. As the movie progresses, the disjointed and out of sequence events make one feel as if this was a case of poor editing as well.
At the end of the movie one is left with more questions than answers. Some of them very core to the story/plotline.

Good Indian Horror movies are really very rare to watch. And those, which are actually very good, become underrated. The reason may be that they are not in Hindi language. 2017 Marathi movie Lapachhapi is one of them.
The BGM and Camera movement will genuinely make you scared. Pooja Sawant is exceptional as well as very beautiful in the film. The eyes of Usha Naik will make you think and think about the character. Direction by Vishal Furia is at it's best.
And The best thing about this movie is it delivers a very strong message to the society, because even now in India there are many places where this type of cases happen.
This movie is also going to get a remake in Bollywood featuring Nushrratt Bharuccha in lead role by the same director. May be then it'll get it's deserving recognition by all. But I'm suggesting everyone to check out the original one at least once, I'm sure you won't regret.
Available on ZEE5.

This movie is fantastic. The end is a bit weak but it conveys the message that this movie intends to deliver. I bow down to the lead in this movie. she's done an excellent job.

I saw this movie, recently, I don't know how I skipped it, when it was released in 2017? Or may be it was not marketed properly as it is the case with many Marathi Movies. This is one of the best horror Marathi movie I have seen. Right from the first frame to the end, this movie keeps you glued. Technically also the movie is a treat, the sound effects are good. The Star Cast is good, but you forget it, like for e.g. Pooja Sawant plays glamourous roles, but in this movie her character is so strong, that you forget it is Pooja Sawant. Usha Naik, one of the actress from the earlier generation, gives a solid performance. The movie also has a nice message.

Faltu movie , faltu direction, faltu characters. Too much artificial dialogue , artificial voice, except kalsabai and that child actor others acted pretty average. It's like aap biti, ghost comes and tells his plight ..... funny ending... ending especially ruined everything. Why people calling it masterpiece, I doubt the ratings here.....
