The series was cancelled after only two seasons. This is mostly due to poor reviews and ratings. Many saw the show as an attempt to redo "The King of Queens" which was further emphasized when Leah Remini was brought on as a love interest. The writers decided to write Remini's character as a business partner.
Kevin James and Gary Valentine are real-life brothers.
On June 5, 2017, CBS confirmed Erinn Hayes has been fired from the show and Leah Remini has been confirmed to be in the cast continuing her role as Kevin's fellow officer Vanessa Cellucci in a revamp of the show which likely includes Kevin returning to work on the police force.
The set used for the house is the same set used in Hangin' with Mr. Cooper (1992).
Bas Rutten also had appearances in several movies and television shows with Kevin James, including The King of Queens (1998), both Paul Blart: Mall Cop movies, and Here Comes the Boom (2012). He also voiced the wolf in Zookeeper (2011).
