Keanu Reeves has been seen across a lot of different genres, embodying characters as versatile as his tremendous acting chops. But while he is more famous for his action projects like the John Wick saga and The Matrix film series, the actor hasn’t hesitated to star in projects of pretty much the opposite themes as well. Like absolute comedy, for instance.

Of course, not many people may know about this, but Reeves has even starred in a widely commended sitcom that couldn’t be sillier as compared to his other works. And, ironically enough, what landed him into this sitcom in the first place was nothing other than his sheer friendship with his co-star from his fan-favorite horror-fantasy Constantine, Peter Stormare!

Showbiz careers have no logic because there are too many unpredictable factors: audiences’ fickle tastes, industry perceptions and, of course, luck. But even given the elusive nature of career success, Keanu Reeves is unique.
For one thing, he is stronger than ever after a 35-year career, showing a longevity that might have surprised even his ardent supporters in the 1980s.
Most actors would be thrilled to have one successful film franchise, but Reeves — who celebrates his 57th birthday on Sept. 2 — has three: “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” which in 1989 established him as a comedy actor; plus “The Matrix” (1999) and “John Wick” (2014), both of which put him in the pantheon of action heroes.
Reeves, who is of Hawaiian, Chinese, English, Irish and Portuguese heritage, made his professional debut in 1984, with small roles in various TV series, then made his big-screen bow in “Youngblood” (1986), which tapped into his skill at hockey.

Nent Group’s Swedish label Brain Academy is plotting two major films from A-list writing-directing teams. The first, “The World Council of Magic,” is helmed by “The Most Beautiful Boy in the World”’s Kristian Petri, based on a screenplay by genre-bending author John Ajvide Lindqvist(”Border,” “Let the Right One In”).
”The World Council of Magic” is my first script not based on one of my stories,” said Lindqvist, often dubbed the Stephen King of Sweden. The film deals with a group of elderly magicians of the practical kind. In their hungry youth, they searched for the secret behind actual magic. Now, when they’re in their seventies, one of them gets the long-awaited revelation that allows him to manipulate the material world with his mind,

This summer, speculation was running rampant that Warner Bros. were set to imminently announce the long-awaited sequel to Keanu Reeves’ Constantine, something that had been frequently rumored over the years without any concrete developments being made. It surely wasn’t a coincidence that it happened to coincide with the fifteenth anniversary of the movie’s release, either, as the creative team hopped back onto the interview circuit and revealed all sorts of new details about the longtime cult favorite.
Things have drastically quietened down over the last few months, though, despite star Peter Stormare seemingly confirming that a sequel was definitely in the works. Stormare and Reeves and have been friends for a while, of course, with the former also popping up in John Wick: Chapter 2 and the latter playing a recurring role in Stormare’s short-lived comedy series Swedish Dicks as the ghost of former stuntman Tex Johnson,...

As everyone correctly fawned over GQ‘s excellent profile of Keanu Reeves last month, there was one throwaway detail in the piece that I couldn’t stop thinking about. In introducing the actor’s friend and occasional “Swedish Dicks” co-star Peter Stormare, GQ noted that the actor once “went to China and made a movie about saving sea turtles, and then, before the film was supposed to open, the Chinese government decided there was some issue with Stormare’s work visa and confiscated the turtle movie.

John Simm plays a rabble-rousing populist politician in “Cold Courage,” and Lionsgate has stepped up and taken international rights to the series.
Based on the series of novels by Pekka Hiltunen, the drama is billed as the biggest yet out of Finland and will bow on the Viaplay streaming service in Scandinavia. With a cast from all over Europe and a shoot spanning Belgium, Finland, Ireland, and the U.K., “Cold Courage” is international in scope and ambition.
That was part of the appeal for Simm, a familiar face on British TV, playing The Master in “Doctor Who” and starring in a host of other shows for British networks. “There was a point I was on BBC and ITV at the same time and that was a bit much,” he told Variety. “I thought it would be nice to step away from that for a little bit and do something I haven’t done,...

Glen Basner’s FilmNation Entertainment and Nordic Entertainment Group (Nent Group) are joining forces to launch a new U.K.-based TV company which will develop, produce and finance premium scripted TV content for global audiences.
The joint venture will operate under the FilmNation brand and is currently assembling its creative team. Sweden’s media group Mtg has secured a credit facility of SEK1 billion ($112 million) from the Stockholm-based bank Nordea.
Mtg is also still looking to sell its 95% stake in Bulgarian commercial media group Nova and is currently in talks with several buyers. Mtg had previously made an agreement to sell Nova to Ppf Group, but the deal was not approved by Bulgaria’s anti-trust board.
Mtg will be splitting off its TV operations, including Mtg Studios and Splay Networks, into a separate entity, Nent Group (Nordic Entertainment Group), in March. Nent Group will also be listed on the stock market. The banner encompasses the TV channel TV3, the satellite TV platform Viasat and the streaming service Viaplay, as well as the production outfit Nice Entertainment and the distribution banner Drg. Refinery29, the media and entertainment player that targets millennial females, is the latest content company to plot an over-the-top video push.
Refinery29’s Channel29 is set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2018, as a live and on-demand video destination available on connected-tv devices, smart TVs and the company’s existing digital platforms. It’s designed as a new vehicle to reach engaged audiences with an expanded lineup of original news, entertainment and lifestyle programming — and shopping opportunities.
The company didn’t share many details of Channel29 except that it will be free to watch and ad-supported, and will feature commerce components. R29 also called out its major site redesign last month, intended to put the focus on “consumer action” — to discover and watch content, as well as shop through its ecommerce portal.

Pop said it would expand its lineup of original series with a new series led by actress Anna Paquin and three new pilots.
The cable network, owned jointly by CBS Corp and Lionsgate, aims for young adults and tends to compete with networks such as Bravo, E! and Lifetime. Pop was once better known as the TV Guide Channel, and showed TV favorites alongside a scrolling grid of programming on the set-top box. Since 2015, however, it has curated a group of original series and older favorites that celebrate fandom.
“We are heading into this year’s upfront with an ever-growing linear television audience, a premium slate of original content with A-list talent, and carriage across all major distributors and almost every over-the-top service,” said Brad Schwartz, President of Pop. “Building on this momentum, we’re introducing more premium scripted content than ever before.”

Keanu Reeves is an expert when it comes to ghosting.
In an exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday’s Swedish Dicks, the actor makes his first appearance as Tex, the late best friend of Ingmar (Peter Stormare), who blames himself for his former partner’s death during a stunt gone wrong.
“Careful or you’ll end up like me,” Reeves, 52, warns Stormare in the clip as he prepares to throw himself off the roof of a Los Angeles building.
Ingmar presses Tex for what really happened on the day of his death before realizing that his ghostly pal is no longer by his side.

A funny, fresh detective comedy is tough to do in any language. Many shows have tried to infuse the sordid world of cheap private investigators with some offbeat humor, but “Swedish Dicks,” the latest attempt, co-created and starring Peter Stormare, bases its story in L.A. with an international and bilingual twist.
Stormare plays Ingmar, a broke ex-Hollywood stuntman who opens up an unusually affordable detective agency. Working out of a nondescript downtown L.A. office, one particular job brings fellow Swedish ex-pat Axel (Johan Glans) into his professional orbit. After the two narrowly escape the clutches of a particularly twisty gig, they go into business together. Operating under an agency with the same name as the show’s title, these two Swedes handle their client’s unconventional requests wherever in the city they might lead.
