"Kono Mystery ga Sugoi!" feels like the typical TV movie for holidays, one hour and a half of three short stories (around half an hour each) interspersed with short vignettes of a writer talking with an old woman. We have a killing in a yacht, a husband killed in a close room while the wife was at karaoke, and three sisters that are at their mother's funeral, a woman who had a dark mystery...
All the mysteries are kind of lame, in the meaning that there is not much of a mystery. In half an hour it's difficult to put even the basics of a story, so here we rush through things and things are not greatly developed. The last is not even much of a mystery. But the atmosphere is quite good in all three all them (the style varies too). The movie is easy to watch, as it never gets boring and all the actors do an acceptable job (it includes lots of popular Japanese actors). It also has some humor, all kind of surrealistic and silly (like the old woman trying an old Japanese prank on the writer) that it's worth a chuckle or two. A little bit like famous Japanese TV show "Gaki no tsukai".
A perfect movie to watch while taking a coffee after lunch or to relax without having to think too much, but nothing more.
