Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, the sophomore season of Ryan Murphy's Monster series for Netflix, has just debuted its 10 episodes, introducing us to the real-life brothers who killed their parents. Though the first season, following infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, was much more black and white in depicting an evil person, this one is nuanced, unfolding the layers of Lyle and Erik's relationship with their parents and why they did what they did.
As Monsters opens up with its premiere episode, "Blame it on the Rain," brothers Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik (Cooper Koch) seem like your everyday young men — albeit very wealthy and perhaps a little out of touch. But what we can't see on the surface is the pain they face and the complicated relationship they had with their parents, José (Javier Bardem) and Kitty (Chloë Sevigny). Five-plus years following the launch of his film financing and production company, Hammerstone Studios, producer Alex Lebovici finds himself at “a big turning point.” After working for years on “building block” projects that held little to no interest for him on the level of story, he’s been able of late to assemble an increasingly packed studio slate, devoting himself solely to making the “fun, commercial, star-driven films” he likes to watch.
Breaking out in September 2022 with the buzzy horror thriller Barbarian, underscoring the company’s commitment to fresh genre fare with big, original ideas, Hammerstone is looking to recapture the zeitgeist this weekend with Boy Kills World, an action thriller starring Barbarian‘s Bill Skarsgård. Directed by Moritz Mohr, the film has him playing Boy, who vows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen), the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that...

Academy Award-winning visionary filmmaker Kevin Costner directs New Line Cinema’s vast “Horizon: An American Saga” Chapters One and Two, a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. A story of America too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-writes with Jon Baird (“The Explorers Guild”) and produces through his Territory Pictures.
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, “Horizon: An American Saga” explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s films will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

Days after a London jury acquitted him of sexual assault, Kevin Spacey is back in the public eye — or at least the public ear — in the trailer for a new movie, Control. He portrays “The Voice” in the clip, speaking to Great Britain’s home secretary (Bridgerton’s Lauren Metcalfe) as he remotely takes control of her car and terrorizes her for some supposed misdeeds she’s committed politically. The car, which also contains the prime minister’s daughter, hits a pedestrian and hurdles toward oncoming traffic.

Now, the sexual misconduct claims against him plague the actor’s every move both personally and professionally. But Kevin Spacey is hoping to rebound, saying that there are a number of people eager to work with him.
Speaking with German publication Die Zeit, Kevin Spacey said, “It’s a time in which a lot of people are very afraid that if they support me, they will be cancelled…But I know that there are people right now who are ready to hire me the moment I am cleared of these charges in London. The piece mentions that Egerton has met with Marvel Studios brass, including president Kevin Feige, and that he would like to follow in Hugh Jackman’s footsteps as the next Wolverine.

Mena Suvari is opening up about her experience making the 1999 Best Picture-winning film “American Beauty.” The actress spoke to People about how she remembers an “unusual experience” with Kevin Spacey in the lead-up to shooting an intimate scene on the film, in which Suvari stars as a high school cheerleader being lusted after by Spacey’s character. (Spacey won a Best Actor Academy Award for his performance.)
Suvari said she “trusted” Spacey on the set of the movie, but that one experience did leave her with a strange feeling. She says to prepare for a scene one day, Spacey brought her into a side room. Suvari also said that when sexual abuse claims began to surface against the actor in 2017, “I thought of that day.

HBO Max’s upcoming “Green Lantern” series is eyeing actor Jeremy Irvine for the role of Alan Scott.
Irvine would join Finn Wittrock in the series, who has been cast in the lead role of Guy Gardner. HBO Max declined to comment.
Scott was Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man. He was created by Martin Nodell and made his comic book debut in 1940. A train engineer by trade, Scott derived his powers from a mystical green lantern crafted from a mysterious meteorite. He later joined the Justice Society of America, and in universe-hopping adventures would sometimes team with members of the Green Lantern Corps, including Hal Jordan.
Based on the DC Comics property, the show was first announced in 2019 and was ordered to series last year. The story spans decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with Scott, and then heading to...

While Disney’s seismic theatrical release changes with Black Widow, Cruella and Luca today were on the top of everybody’s minds, it was easy to ignore the elephant in the corner of the room.
We’re specifically talking about Kenneth Branagh’s mystery ensemble Death on the Nile starring Armie Hammer, who has been besieged in an alleged sex scandal. The 20th Century Studios production, which reportedly cost $90M and was greenlighted by the previous Fox administration before the Disney merger, has changed release dates several times due to the pandemic: From Oct. 23 to Dec. 18 last year to being unset and then finally dated for Sept. 17. Well, now the movie that also stars Gal Gadot, Tom Bateman, Annette Bening and more won’t open until Feb. 11, 2022.
I’m told the release date has nothing to do with Hammer, who is under investigation by the LAPD on rape claims that...

Rosanna Arquette has signed on to star in Chicago 1919, an indie drama inspired by the true story of the Chicago race riots which began with the murder of a young Africa American boy Eugene Williams on July 27, 1919. Julie Dash, the director behind The Rosa Parks Story, starring Angela Bassett, and the upcoming Angela Davis biopic at Lionsgate, is helming the film, which hails from Global Genesis Group.
The pic follows two young African American brothers, and their involvement in the Chicago race riot of 1919, an extremely violent racial conflict provoked by ethnic White Americans against Black Americans that began on the south side of Chicago on July 27, and ended on August 3, 1919. Ld Entertainment’s reimagining of “Jacob’s Ladder,” the 1990 psychological thriller directed by Adrian Lyne, starring Tim Robbins, has set what should be a final release date, six years after the project was launched.
Directed by David M. Rosenthal and written by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp, this reimagining stars Michael Ealy, Jesse Williams, and Nicole Beharie.

Amazon Studios has returned the domestic rights to indie film “A Rainy Day in New York” back to its director and producer, Woody Allen, Variety has learned.
Allen sparked widespread media confusion last week when he released a trailer for his Elle Fanning and Timothée Chalamet drama on his Facebook page, saying it was “coming soon.” The film had been stuck in the mire of litigation with his former creative partners at Amazon, but Allen is now free to proceed with any domestic release elsewhere as he sees fit, according to an individual close to the project.
“A Rainy Day in New York” already has international distribution commitments from France’s Contracorriente Films (Sept. 18), Italy’s Lucky Red (Oct. 3) and Germany’s Filmwelt/Nfp (this fall). Germany was pre-sold in 2017 by FilmNation and Allen’s Gravier Productions secured France and Italy, and will handle sales in the rest of the world and now the U.

Kevin Spacey revived his role as “House of Cards” antihero Frank Underwood to issue a Christmas Eve statement responding indirectly to the sexual misconduct accusations that derailed Spacey’s career last year.
The statement came within moments of the Boston Globe reporting Monday that Spacey faces a felony charge accusing him of sexually assaulting the teenage son of former Boston news anchor Heather Unruh at a Nantucket bar in July 2016.
Spacey, one of the most prominent men to lose their careers to #MeToo movement, was killed off from the Netflix show and excised from the film “All the Money in the World” after numerous men accused him of predatory behavior.
“You trusted me even though you knew you shouldn’t,” Spacey says in the video, shot as he putters around a kitchen. “So we’re not done, no matter what anyone says. And besides, I know what you want. You want me back.

USA has cast the two leads of its upcoming “Bourne” spinoff series “Treadstone,” the network said Thursday.
Jeremy Irvine, who recently played a young Pierce Brosnan in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” will play J. Randolph Bentley in the series, a spy dispatched by the CIA to eliminate a key target, but ends up embroiled in an international conspiracy. “Sense8” alum Brian J. Smith will play Doug McKenna, an all-American oil-rig worker whose life changes after he discovers long buried truths about himself. Both are series regulars.
“Treadstone,” a TV spinoff of Universal’s “Bourne” film franchise that starred Matt Damon, will explore the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins.

Dame Judi Dench is defending her “good friend” Kevin Spacey and doesn’t agree with the fact that he was cut from “All the Money in the World” due to sexual misconduct allegations against him.
“I can’t approve, in any way, of the fact — whatever he has done — that you then start to cut him out of films,” Dench said at a film festival in Spain, according to the BBC. Christopher Plummer reshot the scenes in which Spacey formerly starred as John Paul Getty.
“Are we to go back throughout history now and anyone who has misbehaved in any way, or has broken the law, or has committed some kind of offense, are they always going to be cut out?” she asked. “Are we going to exclude them from our history? I don’t know about any of the conditions of it, but nevertheless I think he is, and was,...

Kevin Spacey won’t face charges stemming from accusations that he sexually assaulted an acquaintance in 1992, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.
“The reporting party alleged that he was the victim of a sexual assault by the suspect in 1992,” paperwork from the district attorney’s office said. “The allegation is outside the statute of limitations, therefore, an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence is not warranted and prosecution is declined.”
According to the district attorney’s office, the accusation, in this case, did not involve an underage victim.
In August, the district attorney’s office announced that it was looking into a second sexual assault case against Spacey, following an initial case presented to the office in April.

The case was submitted on Tuesday. The D.A.'s office did not provide any details about when the alleged incident occurred. The Sheriff's Department also did not reveal any information about the case.
In April, the Sheriff's Department submitted another investigation involving Spacey to the D.A.'s office. That case involved an allegation of sexual assault from October 1992.
The D.A.'s office has received numerous investigations from the Sheriff's Department, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the Beverly Hills Police Department involving Hollywood figures over the last 10 months. However, the office has yet to file charges in any of them. Many remain under review, but others have also been discarded because the allegations fall outside the statute of limitations.

The Internet and other trades found great click bait in declaring that Vertical Entertainment’s Kevin Spacey drama Billionaire Boys Club was the lowest-opening ever of the fallen actor’s career with a $618 opening at 11 theaters. But the reality is you’d have to be a psychic to know that the film was playing anywhere.
Furthermore, for a distributor like Vertical in the theatrical VOD business, it’s not about what money is made at the box office but on VOD, and industry sources believe that Billionaire Boys Club easily could churn a seven-digit revenue on pay-per-view at the end of the day. And in the wake of the Spacey scandal, VOD was the best way to go for this movie. The pic at one point ranked in the top 20 on iTunes.
