The acclaimed original in question in The Great season 3. Premiering on May 12, this historical black comedy with continue the story of Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning) and her pal Peter III (Nicholas Hoult). The other Hulu original series of note this month is The Clearing on May 24. Based on the best-selling crime novel In the Clearing this story will follow a story inspired by the real life events behind Australian cult “The Family.”

For its other TV options in May, Hulu is turning to its cable partner FX. Class of ’09, an FBI thriller starring Kate Mara and Brian Tyree Henry, premieres on May 10. That will be followed by The Secrets of Hillsong, a docuseries investigating the controversial church on May 20.

Apple TV+ has given a series order to “Firebug,” a drama series starring Taron Egerton and created by Dennis Lehane.

“Firebug” will follow a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator (Egerton) as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists. Though fictionalized, the series is inspired by some of the true events presented in Truth Media’s “Firebug” podcast, which was hosted by Kary Antholis.

The project hails from Apple Studios and is developed, written and executive produced by Lehane. Other executive producers include Egerton and Richard Plepler through Eden Productions, which is under a multi-year deal at Apple TV+; Bradley Thomas and Dan Friedkin through Imperative Entertainment; Antholis for Crime Story Media; and Marc Smerling for Truth Podcasting Corp.

This marks another collaboration between Egerton, Lehane, Plepler, Antholis and Thomas at Apple TV+, who last worked together on “Black Bird,” the limited series that debuted on the streamer in July.

After portraying Sir Elton John, Taron Egerton is hoping to someday embody a different iconic figure: Logan.

The actor, known for his role as Eggsy in the first two Kingsman films and for playing John in Rocketman, spoke with the New York Times to promote his Apple TV+ series Black Bird in an interview published online Friday. The piece mentions that Egerton has met with Marvel Studios brass, including president Kevin Feige, and that he would like to follow in Hugh Jackman’s footsteps as the next Wolverine.

“I don’t think it would be wrong to say that,” Egerton, 32, told the publication with a laugh about his interest in the part. “I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.

Kevin Spacey is at the center of criminal sexual assault charges filed in the U.K., the Crown Prosecution Service (Cps) confirmed on May 26.

A prolific director of the small-screen with a career spanning four decades, Chomsky won four Emmys over the course of his career, all for his work on various miniseries or television films: “Holocaust” in 1978, “Attica” in 1980,” “Inside the Third Reich” in 1982 and “Peter the Great” in 1986. He was additionally nominated for four other Emmys, and won two Director’s Guild of America awards out of four nominations.

Mena Suvari is opening up about her experience making the 1999 Best Picture-winning film “American Beauty.” The actress spoke to People about how she remembers an “unusual experience” with Kevin Spacey in the lead-up to shooting an intimate scene on the film, in which Suvari stars as a high school cheerleader being lusted after by Spacey’s character. HBO Max’s upcoming “Green Lantern” series is eyeing actor Jeremy Irvine for the role of Alan Scott.

Irvine would join Finn Wittrock in the series, who has been cast in the lead role of Guy Gardner. HBO Max declined to comment.

Emma Roberts and her Belletrist TV banner have signed a first-look TV deal with Hulu.

The deal will focus on literary adaptations, as Belletrist was originally founded by Roberts and Karah Preiss as a book club. Rosanna Arquette has signed on to star in Chicago 1919, an indie drama inspired by the true story of the Chicago race riots which began with the murder of a young Africa American boy Eugene Williams on July 27, 1919. Julie Dash, the director behind The Rosa Parks Story, starring Angela Bassett, and the upcoming Angela Davis biopic at Lionsgate, is helming the film, which hails from Global Genesis Group.

The pic follows two young African American brothers, and their involvement in the Chicago race riot of 1919, an extremely violent racial conflict provoked by ethnic White Americans against Black Americans that began on the south side of Chicago on July 27, and ended on August 3, 1919. During the riot, thirty-eight people died (23 Black and 15 White). It is considered the worst of the nearly 25 riots in the United States during the “Red Summer” of 1919.

Global, which has worldwide distribution rights, is producing Chicago 1919 along with Seanne N.

Funny and strong-willed, Anita is a scene-stealing supporting character who sings the classic song “America.” The role was originally played onscreen by Rita Moreno in Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins’ 1961 “West Side Story” movie. Moreno, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work as Anita, is serving as one of the film’s executive producers. Ld Entertainment’s reimagining of “Jacob’s Ladder,” the 1990 psychological thriller directed by Adrian Lyne, starring Tim Robbins, has set what should be a final release date, six years after the project was launched.

Directed by David M. Rosenthal and written by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp, this reimagining stars Michael Ealy, Jesse Williams, and Nicole Beharie.

In the original, scripted by Bruce Joel Rubin, the protagonist is a Vietnam veteran whose experiences prior to and during the war result in fragmented flashbacks and bizarre hallucinations that continue to haunt him, as he desperately tries to get to the bottom of it all. Amazon Studios has returned the domestic rights to indie film “A Rainy Day in New York” back to its director and producer, Woody Allen, Variety has learned.

Allen sparked widespread media confusion last week when he released a trailer for his Elle Fanning and Timothée Chalamet drama on his Facebook page, saying it was “coming soon.” The film had been stuck in the mire of litigation with his former creative partners at Amazon, but Allen is now free to proceed with any domestic release elsewhere as he sees fit, according to an individual close to the project.

“A Rainy Day in New York” already has international distribution commitments from France’s Contracorriente Films (Sept. 18), Italy’s Lucky Red (Oct. 3) and Germany’s Filmwelt/Nfp (this fall). Germany was pre-sold in 2017 by FilmNation and Allen’s Gravier Productions secured France and Italy, and will handle sales in the rest of the world and now the U.

The 25 year old movie star has been threatening to do a movie musical for awhile now (he was once attached to a Hans Christian Anderson biopic that seems to have been trapped in development hell) and is finally getting around to it with West Side Story. Major credits include leading roles in The Fault in Our Stars, Billionaire Boys Club, Baby Driver, and the forthcoming drama The Goldfinch.

Kevin Spacey revived his role as “House of Cards” antihero Frank Underwood to issue a Christmas Eve statement responding indirectly to the sexual misconduct accusations that derailed Spacey’s career last year.

The statement came within moments of the Boston Globe reporting Monday that Spacey faces a felony charge accusing him of sexually assaulting the teenage son of former Boston news anchor Heather Unruh at a Nantucket bar in July 2016.

Spacey, one of the most prominent men to lose their careers to #MeToo movement, was killed off from the Netflix show and excised from the film “All the Money in the World” after numerous men accused him of predatory behavior.

USA has cast the two leads of its upcoming “Bourne” spinoff series “Treadstone,” the network said Thursday.

Jeremy Irvine, who recently played a young Pierce Brosnan in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” will play J. Randolph Bentley in the series, a spy dispatched by the CIA to eliminate a key target, but ends up embroiled in an international conspiracy. “Sense8” alum Brian J. Dame Judi Dench is defending her “good friend” Kevin Spacey and doesn’t agree with the fact that he was cut from “All the Money in the World” due to sexual misconduct allegations against him.

Kevin Spacey won’t face charges stemming from accusations that he sexually assaulted an acquaintance in 1992, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

“The reporting party alleged that he was the victim of a sexual assault by the suspect in 1992,” paperwork from the district attorney’s office said. “The allegation is outside the statute of limitations, therefore, an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence is not warranted and prosecution is declined.”

According to the district attorney’s office, the accusation, in this case, did not involve an underage victim.

In August, the district attorney’s office announced that it was looking into a second sexual assault case against Spacey, following an initial case presented to the office in April.

In a statement to TheWrap, the D.A.’s office wrote, “A sex assault case was presented yesterday (8/21) to our office by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department involving Kevin Spacey. It remains under review.”

No further details were given. The first case presented to the D.A.’s office from law enforcement was in April. He is under investigation in both the United States and in the United Kingdom.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has submitted a sexual assault investigation on Kevin Spacey to the District Attorney's Office for review, Variety has confirmed.

The case was submitted on Tuesday. The D.A.'s office did not provide any details about when the alleged incident occurred. The Sheriff's Department also did not reveal any information about the case.

In April, the Sheriff's Department submitted another investigation involving Spacey to the D.A.'s office. That case involved an allegation of sexual assault from October 1992.

The D.A.'s office has received numerous investigations from the Sheriff's Department, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the Beverly Hills Police Department involving Hollywood figures over the last 10 months. However, the office has yet to file charges in any of them. Many remain under review, but others have also been discarded because the allegations fall outside the statute of limitations.
