Unlike other the other films, this film was released as a television special, and was recorded in Canada with an almost entirely different voice cast. Only Melissa Sturm, Michelle Murdocca, Maddie Taylor and Frank Welker reprise their roles from previous films.

Ed and Edna are directly influenced by the characters Tex and Edna Boyle from SCTV (1976).
