Enjoyable picture dealing with turns and twists of life and love , that nothing is forever . Produced and distributed by Sony Pictures in collaboration with Atresmedia , it is set during a long night of August, in which some people have different experiences what left a deep impression in them , resulting in an agreeable finale . 'Rumbos' features a truck, an ambulance, a taxi and two cars, with their passengers and is curious how all the little stories are well-paced , as director knows how to apply the right dose of comedy and drama so that neither its good script nor its direction go unnoticed at any time, thus granting equal importance to all its attractive roles and how could it be otherwise when it comes to stories of love and heartbreak, is made up of couples . Lucia (Pilar López de Ayala) and Iván (Miki Esparbé) start the film at 4:30 in the early morning inside their parked car after returning from her sister's wedding, continuing Pedro (Karra Elejalde), the optimistic taxi driver deeply in love with María (Nora Navas) , his wife , then we meet a couple of ambulance drivers , Alberto (Ernesto Alterio), also in love with Maria and Manu (Rafael Ordorika), an introverted guy whose past does not allows you to move on . The next part of the story leads us to meet Paco (Fernando Albizu), a single truck driver in love with prostitute Lupe (Carmen Machi) and two teenagers like Koke (Emilio Palacios) and Luisito (Christopher Torres) with their dog while they drive in a convertible and subsequently pursued by Police until a fateful fate . Meanwhile , the voice of Julia Otero through the radio of each and every one of the vehicles will be the indirect thread that joins their stories in this meritoriously conducted film.
Fresh, light , charming and unpretentious picture , this dramedy has a more than remarkable choral cast that increases the final quality of the flick , adding a sensitive musical score by composer Mikel Salas . And including songs as Caer written by Christina Rosenvinge and Mikel Salass and performed by Christina Rosenvinge . This moving movie inevitably evokes the wonderful 'Night on Earth' by Jim Jarmusch .The night marks the tempo and drives these characters leading their lives for a half and hour as tdirector Manuela Burló shows them compellingly , in different vehicles, all in the same circle and each one at a different point in it, sometimes united by a simple detail . All the role have their own drama in 'Rumbos', no one escapes, the lonely streets make them seem small or insignificant, with no solution, encapsulated behind the windows of the car , the taxi , the ambulance, the convertible, developing intense urban dramas , but there is also liberation, redemption, honesty and the unpredictable destiny .In 'Rumbos' there is love and heartbreak, drama and humor in equal parts, but then drama turns into comedy and , viceversa , comedy turns into drama.
High level main and support cast are pretty good , Pilar López de Ayala as unfortunate with her broken heart , while Karra Elejalde is very contained in a character as a cabman who does not know how to react even when the drama touches her closely , Carmen Machi who embroiders splendidly her small female secondary , Fernando Albizu who holds a complex role like few others in this country, Ernesto Alterio, Rafael Ordorika, Emilio Palacios and Christopher Torres are also at first-class , their performances ensure that the story does not falter and keeps the rhythm until the end more or less correctly . As I said before, the script written by Manuela Burló as well as direction are frankly well , with interesting phrases thought-provoking issues and dramatic events. It is a nice melodrama with its doses of comedy appearing gere and there . 'Rumbos' is a complex tale made of detailed stories, of decisions and free paths to choose, of people and options, of optimism despite its choral drama , a journey that shows the unpredictability of our lives.
The camera work by Unax Mendia is really remarkable and impeccable showing the Barcelona night. The Murcian director Manuela Burló Moreno in her second feature film after 'How to Survive a Farewell' in 2015 puts her face and heart to those fragments of life that run through the early morning to the sound of the radio waves to talk to us about the importance of the decisions made, of having that someone close capable of opening our eyes at some point in our lives. As fillmaker has been able to capture the essence of those nights that rarely occur in big cities, lonely nights, empty streets, devoid of souls and sounds to show characters that only appear on those very specific nights .
Rumbos(2016) was desevedly nominated in Málaga Spanish Film Festival 2016 Golden Biznaga Best Film : Manuela Burló Moreno is a good Director, Writer and Actress known for Dolores (2008), I Want To Spend The Rest of My Life with You (2009) Camas (2010), Cloe (2011), Pipas (2013 - Nominated for the Spanish ), Lo sé (2013), Como sobrevivir a una despedida (2015) and this Rumbos (2016).
