Featured review
Only 5 people are interviewed on this doc. Most of the cast and crew (especially George Lucas, John Barry and Tim Robbins) are ashamed of this movie. Well, it ruined their careers.
The doc starts off with Willard Hyuck and Gloria Katz explaining that Lucas liked the comic and thought it was funny. He wanted to make a movie based on it. They got the rights and wrote the film. They originally wanted it to be set in Hawaii but decided Cleveland because that's where the comic was set.
Then the casting of Beverly. Lea Thompson had to learn how to sing and play guitar. Jeffrey Jones talks about being in the make up, Will and Gloria's daughter saw him and got scared. Then the making of the Howard suit and casting small people to play him.
Ed Gale was meant to be a stunt double for the 12 year old boy cast as Howard. But when the filmmakers saw him play Howard, they cast him instead of the 12 year old.
He talks about how he couldn't see in the suit and had to act without seeing anything. How the suit was really hot and how the animatronics got wonky at times.
Other interesting info includes; The plane chase needed a third unit, Lea was sick in the rescue scene and Phil Tippet animating the puppet.
The rest of the tail..... sorry, tale is continued in part 2.
