As the weather begins to get cooler and the days begin to become shorter, many of us begin to turn to choosing what to stream and what to watch to stay in from the chill. As a parent, it is sometimes hard to find entertaining shows that I can watch with my daughter.
Searching for the right series to share, I have chosen to rewatch Star Wars: The Bad Batch and, for my daughter, Brooklyn, introduce her to the world of the show. I think it is an excellent show to choose that highlights not only great male characters but a heroic younger character she can emulate through Omega. I thought it is perfect time for her and I to watch the show together. We will be reviewing it together. I am curious what her reviews will be.

Star Wars has been in a weird place since The Rise of Skywalker completed the sequel trilogy back in 2019. On the big screen, Disney and Lucasfilm can't seem to get another project off the ground to save their life, with planned movies from Taika Waititi, Kevin Feige, Patty Jenkins, Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss all getting announced only to later be shelved. It's pretty embarassing to announce all these things only for all of them to fall through.
But on TV, the Star Wars universe has been popping. The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars TV show, debuted in 2019, the same year we last had a big screen outing, and has been going strong for three seasons now. And we've also gotten Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, The Acolyte, Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi, not to mention animated series like The Bad Batch.

Star Wars Legends, or the Extended Universe (EU), has always been a gaping hole in my Star Wars lore. I didn't grow up with the EU like many fans in the 90s did, mostly because I didn't fully become a Star Wars fan until college. I am a weirdo, and The Clone Wars movie made me love Star Wars for the first time.
The animated series was my first try with the EU. I picked up some of the comics with Ahsoka Tano or, my personal favorite, Defenders of the Lost Temple by Justin Aclin and Ben Bates, which is about a clone trooper named Glitch who thought he was force-sensitive. When Star Wars Rebels revealed Grand Admiral Thrawn, I gave the original Heir to the Empire trilogy a try.
Still, the Legends universe never really grabbed me for two big reasons.
First, it was so big! I never knew where to start.

With Star Wars Rebels turning ten this year, we've had a decade's worth of stellar performances from Lucasfilm Animation. From the return of The Clone Wars to the newest outing from the Lego Star Wars miniseries Rebuild the Galaxy, let's dive into which voice actors brought out the best performances.
My picks are based on the entire run of a show, season, or miniseries. A guest spot on a single episode won't count. The only exception would be Star Wars: Visions being a series of shorts. Who gave a solid performance from the beginning to the end of their respective show.
In no particular order, here are the 16 best performances from Lucasfilm Animation in the last 10 years.

The final scene of The Bad Batch saw an adult Omega leaving her island home of Pabu to join the Rebel Alliance as a pilot. Hunter, clearly older from the passage of time, sees her off on her next adventures, telling her the words, "You're our kid, Omega. You always will be." This scene was poignant and powerful to close the series.
One fan loved it so much that they made a jack-o-lantern for Halloween. Ct_girlie on Twitter showed off their prized carved gourd, revealing Hunter and Omega sitting under the moon of Pabu.

Star Wars Resistance is a series that I am passionate about and always ready to defend. However, it's very much the dark horse of the franchise, often forgotten in the run of other shows. Now that it's been out for a few years, I think it's a good time to look at it again, discuss how it's the most unlucky of the Star Wars series, and why you should try it if you haven't. That's because Star Wars Resistance is Andor for kids!
Resistance's Unlucky Run Set the Stage For Star Wars TV After It
When Resistance was first released, some fans gave it a lot of criticism. It was heavily compared to The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. This is a bit of an unfair circumstance because Resistance does not function like its predecessors. It was doing something that Star Wars TV hadn't done up to that...

The world said goodbye to The Bad Batch and Clone Force 99 earlier this year, but the adventures are far from over. An upcoming comic book miniseries will tell a new story featuring the fan-favorite characters -- yes, even Tech!
In Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories: The Bad Batch: Ghost Agents, Clone Force 99 returns for another mission in a five-part series from Dark Horse Comics. The miniseries, written by Michael Moreci and illustrated by Reese Hannigan, follows the Bad Batch's Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair, and Tech on a dangerous mission across the galaxy to track down a Separatist ghost agent.
The story takes place prior to the series' events, something that Star Wars publishing, in particular, has the luxury of doing to bring certain characters "back" by going back in time. The Batch previously appeared in the larger Hyperspace Stories comic, but this is their first solo miniseries—and hopefully not the last!

It's another day that ends in "Y," meaning there is some sort of discourse on social media.
Variety released a piece yesterday about toxic fandoms, opening with a discussion of Amandla Stenberg's video in which she talked about the bigoted backlash they received during The Acolyte. The article is a breakdown of how different studios have tackled the bad side of fandoms. One part of this article has set off socials, where an anonymous studio executive discusses using superfan focus groups. In the article, it says:
"Those who did talk with Variety all agreed that the best defense is to avoid provoking fandoms in the first place. In addition to standard focus group testing, studios will assemble a specialized cluster of superfans to assess possible marketing materials for a major franchise project.

Say what you will about the Star Wars television output--and there's no denying that there is a lot to say--but people who find a connection to the galaxy far, far away have never had this much visual media to choose from. If you want a high-stakes adventure, you can binge The Mandalorian. Young and old can enjoy Young Jedi Adventures. This last summer, The Acolyte challenged our perceptions of the Dark Side and Jedi morality. That's not even taking into account projects that show the misadventures of The Bad Batch or Cassian Andor's early trials on the way to becoming a rebel leader.
I've spoken before about the strong points of Star Wars Rebels from the perspective of a newcomer, but I would now like to look at the series from a broader perspective. What is it about this show that creates such a lasting impression and begs for continuing adventures?...

Bobby Moynihan would love to do a live action Star Wars, and I'd love to see it. The Saturday Night Live actor mused about what kind of character he would want to portray and the answer may surprise you.
In a special on Disney+, via Comicbook.com, Moynihan discussed who he would want to play in a live action Star Wars. His Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy character, Jedi Bob, is a definitely choice. Though, he also shared his want to be an alien, saying, "I enjoy Star Wars acting -- I really want to do live-action Star Wars. I really want to play some sort of alien creature where you can't see my face -- a slug or something. My dream is live-action orca. Me in a live-action orca costume, shrunk down, that's my dream."

Star Wars Rebels had a host of great characters that were some of the best additions to the Star Wars canon. Contributed by Dave Filoni, these characters had some of the most defining moments in the history of Star Wars, that sort of prove that Dave Filoni might be the true heir to the Star Wars empire.

One scene in particular proves that Filoni has what it takes to put the Opera in Space Opera when it comes to Star Wars. The director/writer has crafted some of the most well-received moments in the franchise, while also contributing the most heart-wrenching of story beats in the Star Wars universe.

Lego versions of any franchise are always a tongue-in-cheek delight. The Lego Movie was entertaining with its constant refrain of “Everything is Awesome,” but I feel like The Lego Batman Movie letting its titular character be self-deprecating about his comic origins also outstrips anything in the live-action versions.

Ahead of the release of "Cuckoo," I asked Dan Stevens in an interview where his character, Herr König, ranked in his roster of "freaky lil' weirdos." Instead of being a terrible parent and admitting which child is the gold star, he took the more diplomatic route. "I mean, I love all my weird little freaks equally," he says. "I couldn't possibly put them in order, but he's definitely up there in terms of how fun they were to play, largely because of the environment that was created." I can't argue with the answer and I respect his refusal to play favorites, but I am not Dan Stevens, and therefore, I have no qualms about highlighting all of my favorite weird performances of his, and ranking them so as to appease the almighty algorithm that requires such things. This is by no means a definitive list, but 10 of his absolute finest.

The Acolyte, Star Wars' latest addition to cinema, proved to be quite illuminating. From the revelation of a Khyber crystal's bleeding to the Stranger's remarkable cortosis helmet, it was indeed a memorable journey. A key question that arose was about the origin of Osha and Mae. Initially assumed to be mere twins, the actual answer was quite enlightening, opening up a whole new realm of possibilities. This may have also addressed a question that has been on many minds since the Prequel trilogy.
The Force Giveth
One question's answer, in true Star Wars tradition, led to several others. It was revealed that the leaders of a Force witch coven, Mother Koril, and Mother Aniseya, were the twins' parents. Koril carried them and Aniseya shaped them from the Force or Thread, as the Brendok witches referred to it. Once the twins were confirmed to have been born of the Force itself,...

There’s only one way to judge a new Star Wars property in this day and age: Watch it yourself.
Leslye Headland’s “The Acolyte” premiered on June 4 and earned positive response from critics for the first four episodes. The recent debut of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ sparked significant controversy within the Star Wars community. The show has faced both intense criticism and praise, revealing starkly contrasting views between critics and fans.
Currently, ‘The Acolyte’ holds an 85% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but only 13% from audiences, categorizing it as “Rotten.” Issues such as canon inconsistencies and accusations of promoting “woke” ideology have added fuel to the debate.
There are several reasons why ‘The Acolyte’ has received criticism, starting with its lukewarm story and uneven pacing. Budget concerns also loom large, with the show’s $180 million cost for 8 episodes yielding little apparent value so far. Yet, one could argue that even a superior show might struggle due to ongoing trends within highly lucrative franchises tied to Disney.
The concept of superhero fatigue, often associated with the MCU, has been cited as a factor impacting profitability in recent years.

The most recent release of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ caused quite a stir in the Star Wars community. The show has been a target of both review-bombing and review-boosting, with critics and fans having vastly different opinions of the show.
The show currently has 85% approval on Rotten Tomatoes by critics and 13% by fans, making the show Rotten. Instances of canon breaking in the show and alleged “woke” propaganda also did not help.
Now there are several reasons why the show has been called bad, a lukewarm story with weird pacing first and foremost. There’s also the issue with the show’s budget, the show did cost $180 million for 8 episodes, and so far has little to show for it. However, you can also make an argument that a show much better than ‘Acolyte’ wouldn’t fare any better due to something that’s been going on for a while, especially...

After reprising his role as Star Wars villain Director Orson Krennic last year in The Bad Batch, it looks like Rogue One actor Ben Mendelsohn is eyeing a return to that galaxy far, far away for Andor Season 2. Just last weekend, Diego Luna — who plays the eponymous rebel in both Gareth Edwards' film and Tony Gilroy's series — teased to fans at Ace Superhero Comic Con that "there will be characters that you recognise" in the Peabody award-winning show's second series. And now, in an interview with The Playlist, Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios — director of the last three episodes of Andor's upcoming series — has let slip that Mendelsohn is among the recognisable characters fans can expect to see when the show returns.
Whilst singing the praises of his experience working on Andor, Ruizpalacios paid tribute to the heavyweight actors he'd had chance to direct on the show, specifically naming “Stellan Skarsgård,...

Star Wars’ latest series The Acolyte is not having the best time right now, to say the least. While there are some fans who appreciate the show and are glad to see where the franchise is heading, the majority is of the opinion that The Acolyte is one of the worst TV shows in the fictional universe. There were some complaints about the writing and the writers’ team which even included someone who had never seen Star Wars before.
The Acolyte (2024) | Disney+
When one of the writers was asked whether Dave Filoni, the Cco of Lucasfilm, was consulted before writing the episodes, she stated that he not only was he consulted but he also gave notes and approved the scripts. Since Dave Filoni was involved in The Acolyte and not Andor, probably the best Star Wars show out there, some fans couldn’t help but question his credibility.

From The Bad Batch to The Mandalorian, Star Wars on Disney+ has several shows that make up the platform's most popular series of the year.
Thus far in 2024, the galaxy far, far away has not had the sort of prolific output it has been known for in recent years, but neither have any of Disney's major franchises.
This comes as a result of retooling by the studio, spacing out its tentpole releases deliberately as opposed to the scattershot approach taken by the House of Mouse over the last decade.

In recent years, the number of series set in a galaxy far, far away has increased dramatically. The variety of genres, forms and topics is amazing: every viewer, not only fans of the series, can find something to their taste.
On the occasion of the release of The Acolyte, which has already received negative reviews from fans, we have chosen ten of the best projects that you can watch instead of the new series.
1. Star Wars: Visions, 2021-2023
The first non-canon series released after Disney bought Lucasfilm, Visions is The Animatrix of the Star Wars universe, an anthology of 18 shorts divided into two seasons. Each episode is done in a unique style and tells its own little story.
The producers gave the writers maximum creative freedom. As a result, Visions offers a completely different take on traditional Star Wars, and it looks great. The authors clearly prove that canonicity does...

If you want to watch Charlie Barnett star in a Leslye Headland show about complex people navigating sci-fi constructs, you now have multiple choices – the Russian Doll star has followed that series’ creator into The Acolyte. This time, he’s not stuck in a time loop, but instead plays highly-strung Jedi Knight Yord Fandar, unravelling the Force-centric murder-mystery at the core of Headland’s Star Wars show.
Empire sat down with Barnett to talk his entry into the Star Wars universe, his fandom of the animated series, why he initially wanted a purple lightsaber, and Jedi rivalries.
Empire: Were you a Star Wars fan going into The Acolyte?

[The following story contains spoilers from the third and final season of The Bad Batch.]
If The Bad Batch were a live-action series, it’d most certainly be considered an ensemble show. But given that one actor voiced 22 (!) characters in the final season of the animated series, that term might not quite fit in this case. It’s a point that the voice actor himself, Dee Bradley Baker, humbly acknowledges.
“The Bad Batch is a very different creative ask of an actor, to bring all of these full-fledged, full-bodied characters together in a scene as an ensemble, not as disconnected or one-offs,” says Baker. “This is an ensemble story in the same way that The Clone Wars was originally an ensemble story. It’s just in this particular ensemble, I’m most of the ensemble,” he adds, laughing.
The Disney+ series, which ended its three-season run on May 1, follows Clone Force 99, a special forces squad comprising clone solders who were enhanced with special abilities,...

There is a lot of Star Wars trivia that ends up being scraps of story beats that were left on the cutting room floor. From alternate reveals on scripts to protect the original story to more recent deleted scenes (like the one this article is about to discuss), Star Wars behind-the-scenes lore is rich with some of the most hilarious moments in the history of the franchise that had to be cut for the sake of better storytelling.

For quite some time now, plenty of big titles have been underperforming with people practically being a bit sick of the constant reboots, and re-adaptations of the material that no one asked for.
One trend however is clear. The TV industry is increasingly embracing blockbuster-style content. While video game IPs are thriving, other subgenres are also demonstrating strength. However, success in streaming appears to hinge on the use of fresh IP to launch new franchises, although there are some considerations to bear in mind.
Variety presented us with new streaming data for major streaming services and some titles have truly surprised us.
Percy Jackson is an absolute winner when it comes to original series viewership despite technically being a reboot, I guess enough time has passed from the poorly received adaptations from the past and viewers were eager to see a different take on the matter.
Following ‘Percy Jackson,’ we have MCU’s ‘Echo.

"Star Wars" has one of the biggest worlds in fiction, a vast universe with extensive mythology, a sense of history, locations that feel tangible, and characters that come across as real, living beings.
This last bit is important, because "Star Wars" has given plenty of memorable characters, where even small players can turn out to have galaxy-changing importance. Then there are the villains, of which "Star Wars" has plenty, including some of the most memorable villains in cinema history, with their own stories worth exploring.
But while we all know the menacing man-turned-machine Darth Vader or the devil-looking Maul, are they really the worst villains in the franchise? As "Star Wars" has evolved and grown over the years, its villains have become less flashy and more, well, evil. Despite the manifold complications that arose during the acquisition of the Star Wars IP by Disney in 2019, one of the less complicated topics of conversation was George Lucas’ involvement in the franchise.
With the auteur seemingly retiring from the IP that he built from the ground up, it didn’t seem necessary to bring in Lucas on every creative, executive decision rolling out of Disney.

Another year, another May 4th, has come to our galaxy. The unofficial holiday is known as Star Wars Day began in 2011 and quickly caught on as the date, May the fourth, sounded very similar to the phrase “May the Force Be With You.” Since then, fans worldwide have gathered to celebrate their favorite characters and moments from that franchise, and Disney often takes advantage of that.
A 2024 May Fourth video was posted on the official Star Wars YouTube Channel. While the video shows what you would typically expect with clips from the films and shows, interviews with the actors, and fans cosplaying, there is a noticeable absence.
The video, meant to celebrate the franchise as a whole, seemingly ignores the controversial Sequel Trilogy. In the beginning, we see Kylo Ren taking off his helmet for half a second, but there is little to no trace or acknowledgment of those three films.
