Hardly anything in the film is CGI. All of the monsters, gore, etc are real effects created by the team behind the movie.
The hospital used in the film was actually a former high school - Sir James Dunn Collegiate and Vocational School in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. The school had been closed for a while and was demolished not long after filming was completed.
The Void was a crowdfunded project.
This film was originally going to be shot in an actual abandoned hospital, but the abandoned hospital that was scouted to be used proved to be unsafe to shoot in.
The writers of the film say they were inspired by Guillermo del Toro who was working on the ill-fated At the Mountains of Madness when he made a comment about wanting to do Lovecraft but in a way that no one had envisioned or seen before.
